I have 1" pink foam on 1/2" plywood, plus the thickness of the Kato n scale track. Will the long sensors allow me to connect the cable under the layout? I would guess not.
@ModelTrainTechnology2 күн бұрын
You will need to feed the wire through the foam.
@cbirailroad2 күн бұрын
@@ModelTrainTechnology yes but since your sensor is 1.75" long (including the plug) and my base thickness is 1.5" plus the nearly 1/4" thickness of the Unitrack, that comes to 1.75" as well. So it seems that the plug would not be exposed under the layout. And I know many folks that use 2" or more of pink foam. If the plug on the sensor faced downward the problem would seem to be avoided. Is this feasible?

Interesting device but under G scale there are actually a few different scales. You have 1/22.5 set a G scale but that would really only cover narrow gauge type equipment. The other half of the population in G runs 1:29 scale.

Great product! Can a speed stick, connected to the 5V charger, be on continuously during a running session as a monitor of train speed? Or is there a time limitation on how long it should be left on for? Thanks, John
@ModelTrainTechnology5 күн бұрын
Yes, indefinitely. The battery charger isn't live when on 5V continuous power. You can also leave it plugged in and the battery charger will prevent overcharging the battery. Set it and forget it.

Don't know if this has been asked," are they considered to be momentary, and can you add LED indicator ligjts"?

The SMART switch has support for both coil based and motorized turnouts. You connect the SMART Switch digital signal to one of our Signal Controllers or relays that would intern light LEDs you may have OR ,our dwarrf signals.

@@ModelTrainTechnology Just for clarification i am using Kato turnouts, appx 15 using DPDT momentary, which requires relays to use indicator lights which i don't have because my soldering skills suck. .Will i be able to replace all my DPDT toggles with the Smart Switch? Dont know why anyone would buy this.Very easy to do with timer on phone.ie.00 scale is 21 metres ish 23 yards.ish. uk mile.So if 1 minute to travel .train is moving 60 mile per hour.if it takes 45 seconds.its 90 mile per hour.Etc do the maths.Get a piece of string ie 21 metres and mark starting point with item.at end with another item.remove string and have fun timing and logging at different speed steps or power dc.do the maths.I had great fun logging all my locomotives unloaded and loaded.

Is there an interface to allow the readings to be transferred to a computer and into automation software such as iTrain to provide automatic speed profiles?
@ModelTrainTechnologyАй бұрын

@Wrecker3DАй бұрын
I would put that usb port on one or both sides for easier access¹ (and maybe even linking 2 _or more_ sticks together over greater distances) and see if I could make it send the data to a pc/mac over usb or bluetooth so you can monitor and log it so it adds extra value on larger setups ¹= instead of on/off switch use a 3 mode switch: off/battery/direct power with direct power mode taking the battery out of the loop so there's no risk of over charging I don't know if it would be a lot of hassle but it should be possible without the stick 'growing' too much or getting unnecessary complex (could sell it as 'pro' version)
@ModelTrainTechnologyАй бұрын
We purposely removed the end facing USB because a cable there on the layout would be unsightly. The bottom facing is so a cable can be fed UP through the layout. The battery lasts an entire day and the charger is smart - no need to worry about over charging. It's all automatic. If you plug the cable in, the battery is digitally disconnected. We have other products in the pipeline that will allow more options and connectivity.

are these detectors bi-directional and for the grade crossings as well....

The detectors activate when an object is in front of them. Generally, it does not know which direction the object came from. We do have a directional Nano sensor that uses two sensors to determine direction.
