If the sensor is triggered by the engine, what happens when the engine exits the block but the balance of the train is still in the block?
@ModelTrainTechnology2 күн бұрын
If there isn't another car with some kind of draw on DCC, the signal will go out. The simplest way is to put a lighted car or caboose on the train. The alternative is to solder a 10K resistor between the wheels on the axle. That's a bit messy but it will work.

Does this work the same as the Merg Current sensor... that is can I take the output and feed to an Arduino as a 5V Yes/No sensor? Also I searched your website and didn't see this item. Thanks
@ModelTrainTechnology2 күн бұрын
Very similar. Its output is an open drain to Ground with about 2.8v on the high side. We just got behind getting the products loaded but they are there now. We will fill in more details in the next few days.

Can you run feeder wires from multiple tracks through the current loop transformer? For example if you wish to trigger crossing gates at a 2 (or more) rail line crossing, for a train approaching on any of the tracks, can the block current detector be used this way (assuming, of course, that each the tracks has an isolated block around the crossing).
@ModelTrainTechnology2 күн бұрын
That is not recommended because if both tracks are occupied the potential exist to overwhelm the coil. Its better to have two detectors and tie their signal OUTs together - which is the way our system is designed.
@timothyjohnston40833 күн бұрын
A very interesting product you have developed. However, it would have been nice to see it working close-up. As is, I can barely see the light that you said comes on when the block is occupied.

We'll have an instructional video shortly and that will include the close up views.

Nice sensors. What I did for block detection was to embed a 3mm IR photodiode under the trackbed. Then I use IR lighting from above the layout. When the train or rolling stock rolls over the sensors, it blocks the IR light thus triggering the sensor.
@ModelTrainTechnology2 күн бұрын
We have used IR sensor for years but got tired of their inability to properly adjust for changing lighting conditions, restrictions to have a source light, etc. Our Precision Detectors avoid all that and allow detection of a single track, in bright lights, LED lighting and in total darkness. You might like to check us out - although your solution does work. Regards.

obviously, this is supposed to control things, but you did not show any of that.. hopefully, a future video will show what can be done with these devices. also, have you thought about using rj45 plugs to have these communicate with other devices. With rj45 you could use POE to power the devices eliminating the need for an external power source for each device ..
@ModelTrainTechnology2 күн бұрын
We have many more videos on our channel (over 100) that discuss in detail how to trigger gate crossings, block signals, sound and lighting. The whole eco system includes plug compatible components, power modules, etc. to make hook easy. IMHO RJ45's bulky and the cables are rather stiff. Thanks for the feedback!

In DCC mode, would the yellow aspect work in a 3 color dwarf signal?
@ModelTrainTechnology2 ай бұрын
A three aspect dwarf is simply a 3 aspect block signal - thus, the "block" Signal Controller would light it properly. The Dwarf Controllers all have just 2 aspects. DCC or detector mode would not make a difference.

Can you turn off the motion sensing and just use it as a regular DCC board?
@ModelTrainTechnology2 ай бұрын
Yes! you can set it to start in DCC OR Train Sense mode. In DCC, controls are F0 Lights on, F3 for the rear lights

Do you make a watch battery adapter for the dcc or dc adapter boards? And are there discounts for 9 cars sets? Always liked your stuff and I am looking to convert. Thank you for making them. Also can one use them in larger scales like O or even G?
@ModelTrainTechnology3 ай бұрын
Given that we have had so many people tell us they are replacing their battery system for our, we dont expect to make a battery version. It's just too cumbersome to change the batteries. As long as the O and G voltage is 16V or below but the possibility of going beyond that while operating is high. Meaning, it probably a good idea to look forward to O or G versions.

Dear MTT, cool system! Just wondering about the, let’s say, ‘necessary gap’ to avoid the train overlap? Otherwise said, like you showed when the caboose on the straight route is standing in front of the sensor, the sensor of the diverging route doesn’t flip the switch. Would it be necessary to indeed have an insulated block in front of the sensor to prevent such interaction between the two routes. Further, this kind of sensoring really looks promising, especially to integrate blocks and routes as a true model of automatic train control. Cheerio

@ModelTrainTechnology6 ай бұрын
There are three methods to trip our Dwarf Controllers: Coil detectors if you already have coil switches installed, mechanical (like tortoise types) and DCC. In these case you would know which way the turnout is turned. Sensors wont give you that info.

I Have Question How did you take off the walls of the caboose and bottom apart of the caboose because I have same caboose in n scale but I can't get it to separate and I"m afraid I'm break it?
@ModelTrainTechnology6 ай бұрын
Likely the answer is that you have to remove the front and back black grid from the roof. It has pins that slide into holes.

Great video, Jim, and delighted to see the upgrades to the N-scale LED board products. A couple of questions: first, for the dual row board, is there a CV setting that selectively turns off one row - as for the “bedroom side” of a 4-4-6 sleeper - while leaving the other row on to light the passageway? Second, some Kato observation cars (20th Century Limited, California Zephyr, Olympian Hiawatha, for example) have some built-in lighting structures at the back that prevent installation of either the 144mm or 124mm products (too long, won’t fit). Is the 106mm product intended to be used in those types of cars, or should the even shorter N-scale caboose board be used? Looking forward to trying these out soon.
@ModelTrainTechnology6 ай бұрын
We'll put the separate control for right and left side on the wish list. In the installation videos you might see that I remove all that extra "framework" that Kato installs and yes, we use a shorter board but the N-124 will fit - and we put a separate LED in the back observation area - powered by the Mains on the N-124 board.
