@@stephengray8374 yes, I thought of that bit too, but decided to go with the classic Spike as Hitler instead 😂 Also, so far, no one has noticed that my two officers were Hans and Gruber, named after the bad guy in Die Hard. Saving Private Ryan is a great movie and well worth a watch but it can be a bit traumatizing at times. The battle of Normandy was brutal, not just the beaches but the fighting after. Your video made me remember, I got that A team 3 and 3/4 inch Galoob set of figures before I started getting GI Joes as gifts regularly. I know before Christmas if had gotten Snow Job and Destro. At Christmas I got the 5 or 6 inch tall A Team Face action figure (Inliked him the most because he was Lt Starbucks in Battlestar Galactica, my favorite part of A Team intro besides the music was Fave seeing that Cylon and doing a double take). I got the whole team in that GI Joe scale. They came with a pile of those crappy M-60 style machine guns, the back packs with hoses, and I think they came with some other small stuff (a cobra night landing style raiding craft sticks in my memory for some reason). No joes for that Christmas. I played with the A Team guys, but their accessories were junk compared to Joes.

I feel for ya mate. I got a M.A.S.K Iguana vehicle which no longer has the original tyres on it as they turned into black mush. I have a M.A.S.K Rhino too. I display it with the rocket not in its launcher for the same reason you mentioned, 'Not to stress the spring mechanism'. I'm hesitant to try the rocket mechanism on mine now after seeing your video. One thing I've always done with Rhino is having the spring loaded grill ram bar on the front out instead of retracted in, also V.E.N.O.M Jackhammer, I display mine with the rear gun turret up with the figure sitting at the controls. Preserving those spring mechanisms is most important. Thanks for good video.

@@PRIS555 thanks Ed, the sad truth is these old plastics were never made to survive so long. In a few years the original Kenner Star Wars figures will be 50 years old! I doubt many will survive another 50. Best thing to do is put them in a display and enjoy like that. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍😀
@TypicalTonk
@TypicalTonk 12 күн бұрын
I can assure you that the purple plastic on Rhino does not respond to heating. I tried straightening one of the doors by placing it in boiling water. It did no damage to it, but the plastic did not want to flex at all. So don't waste time trying to heat any of it up. Interestingly, My Rhino is displayed with the rocket locked down, ie: spring down and it has sat like that for years. I rarely touch it though, as it's a hair trigger. The sad reality is that these things were never intended to last 40+ years and the plastic becomes brittle as the plasticisers in them break down. Unlike some collectors, I have no issue with people doing running repairs on their toys or fabricating replacement parts. The idea that you can keep anything in original shape for decades on end is unrealistic. I owned a 1958 Holden FC for 18 years and there's no way that thing would have stayed on the road had parts not been replaced and refurbished over time. I'd rather have something look good and be played with than sat on a shelf through fear of touching it.
@Retrotoyguysi

@@TypicalTonk thanks for commenting 👍😀 You are absolutely right that these things were never intended to last this long, but it sucks when they break…. I also try and repair a lot of my old toys, I have a Darth Vader Tie Fighter that I had to manufacture new parts for, it’s very satisfying to repair them, less so when you break them 🫣😅

I must disagree with your conclusion. "Mint condition" only really matters for resale. It seems like you want to play with you stuff (as you should) based on the fact that they broke so I would advise you not to deny yourself part of your enjoyment of these things in the name of "future value." There's a (somewhat crass) saying in the car community: "Not driving your car to keep its value is like not screwing your girlfriend to keep her tight for the next guy." A slightly less crass saying which might be applicable here is the classic "'Tis better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all."
