1:08:05 ** Seduction of Easy memory ** oooof, onus upon the people as well. They slurped it all up, the tropes, the scapegoats, sacrificed truth, turned a blind eye to the heavy costs and casualties, promoted and venerated the lies that then turned into mythologies, actively participated in the reproduction. It's never a one way street.

1:05:50 ** oof, again we've seen this before, in spiritual stagnation, always referencing the past, looking upon the past for answers to complicated issues of the future.., even somewhat in our own contemporary culture, think: synthwave aesthetics, internet meme culture, obsession of the 1950s, 1980s, youtube social media, all of it like a kind of permanent arrested development.

Memorial politics is not historical politics.

37:50 woe-is-me-ism, self injury, "victimhood nationalism." Profound loss of status, status quo, bitterness, growing resentment, Us/Them, a kind of learned helplessness. We've seen this elsewhere in so many other places... It's become like another form of goddamn competition not really sincere at all, like trying to score extra browny points instead of empathizing or being mornful or learning to avoid future conflicts. Rather, Memory war designed for further polarization, extends down to art think: statues, erected monuments, keeping imperial sentiments alive. 58:04 58:34 inversion 59:45 *

28:50 ** winner/tiger's blood syndrome. Permanent winning. Obsessive victory syndrome, the need to always be alpha. Victory without loss, without casualties, without costs. 30:53 31:33 32:10 fabrication is justified then becomes the truth and it cannot be questioned. Ever. PowerPoint slide "We Can Repeat It" : victory as a justification of aggression itself. 32:57 : the other is the other and is always the "fascists."

As an Indian, I can say that most of these things make sense to me. It is extraordinary to be educated by people who have spent so much time thinking and explaining these things to us. Fantastic. Thank you so much. 🙂
