Oh my, Mario. Another great video. Just last weekend I was taking pictures at my four-year-old grandson's birthday party in their apartment. So I had artificial light and it wasn't very bright. I was very worried about the high ISO. But thanks to this video I look at these noisy photos a bit differently. Mario, you are the best, my photography teacher. Best regards, Adam

My great great great friend Adam!!! I am always very happy to read your messages. I am sure that your grandson's birthday must have been beautiful, you are the grandfather that every grandson dreams of having, without a doubt. Adam, as you say, the noise in the photos must be accepted, it is the moment that matters, it is the moment that remains in the memory. My friend, I send you a big hug, everyone here at home also sends you many greetings. Adam, I hope you also have a beautiful weekend, here it is about to start to get very cold and the news is warning of a big storm for next week that will leave a lot of snow and cold. A hug, friend.🤗

I am surprised that you don't have more subs. If we ignore the hat, you are a hidden jewel for photography. You give good common sense advise. I like it that most times you don't use equipment that costs more than a house. You come across like a neighbor that is helping all of us to be better photographers without showing off. Should I start looking for a house for you in Mid-Michigan? We need more neighbors like you. Be safe.

Old Farmer, thank you so much for your lovely comment. It is really motivating to read your words. You don't know how much I appreciate your support. Old Farmer, I spent some time very close to Michigan, in Chicago, while I was working for a communications company. I have been in Germany for almost 5 years now, and I should be there until at least 2028. After that, who knows... maybe the USA will be an alternative. I am more of a country person than a city person. A good part of my life was in the country. Old Farmer, thank you again so much for your support. I send you a big hug from Germany and I hope you have much success in everything. 🤗

Very informative video, thanks Mario. I usually use auto ISO, and I don't pay much attention to the ISO. When the photo has noise, I realize it's because of the high ISO. But as you say, it's better to have a noisy photo than no photo at all.
@MarioKilianPhotography
@MarioKilianPhotography 9 күн бұрын
Hi Meka, regarding what you said, there are many people who don't know that in automatic modes the ISO varies to correct the exposure, if you don't set a limit it can destroy your photos. A hug and take care.

Great video Mario, thanks. I often shoot in manual mode with auto-ISO set to max 12800 in poor or dim light. I find that for very noisy raw files, DXO is best at retaining details if set to zero sharpening, for lower noise in raws, Enhance in Adobe Camera Raw or Lightroom I believe, I don't use Lightroom, does a great , subtle job and for any non raw format files, Topaz.

Hi musique, I usually also always use manual mode and automatic iso, except when I'm in a fixed position taking pictures, that's when I do the exposure and then I just dedicate myself to taking pictures. I use the same technique when I have to photograph sporting events. As for software, the truth is that I'm a bit lazy, that's why the simplicity of Topaz has helped me a lot. A hug and have a good weekend that's almost here!!

Where did you get your camo covers for this lens? Also, have you used the Sports version? I’m looking at both and can’t decide. The C is around $775 and the S $999. Wondering if it’s worth the extra money. I know the S is weather sealed which is nice.
@MarioKilianPhotography
@MarioKilianPhotography 14 күн бұрын
Hi Troy, nice to meet you. Troy, the camo cover is not a traditional camo cover, it's just the camo tape. I find them more practical and I can change them from time to time. So you can see which ones I'm referring to, I'll leave you the link. amzn.to/3O2kW83 To your question about the Sport, I did indeed change to the Sport model because of the weatherproof seal, but for a very important reason; where I live it rains or snows most of the time, and I didn't want to be limited to going out to photograph only on clear days, which are the fewest. In your case, if the weather in your area is also rainy or snowy, it's a good decision. As for optics and AF, both lenses are identical in sharpness and speed according to my experience. A hug.

Excellent film. However, when photographing wildlife, there is not always time to think about composition. You see something, you shoot, and then, watching it on a large monitor, you see everything. But I think that by using your instructions as often as possible, I will develop the habit of good framing of the photo during the first shots. Best regards, Adam

Hello my friend Adam!!! Good morning!!! You are absolutely right, time and patience are essential, and that is what will make the difference between a traditional photo and one with art. The thumbnail was very appealing, but the video didn’t quite deliver on expectations. I was hoping for more on-field experience and practical demonstrations rather than just a narrative. Some live examples of techniques would have been more engaging and useful. Also, I noticed what seemed like a flash being used-is it recommended for bird photography? Generally, using flash for wildlife, especially birds, can disturb them and isn’t commonly recommended. Including natural light techniques instead could enhance the value for viewers looking to learn bird photography in real conditions.

Going out to get the perfect shot is not the way to go. Your primary goal should be to enjoy being outdoors. Your camera is just a bonus. You'll get your shots if you go outside often enough. My advice would be to learn something new everytime you go out. You'll discover a new path, find a new species, meet someone that guides you to a useful website. The journey is the destination. Don't chase the pictures. The pictures will come to you. Also remember that social media shows an agreggation of multiple people's best work. Some of these people have already retired and thus have more time and money to spend. Don't be fooled and just enjoy every moment out there. Learn something new everyday, but keep it small (smaller, smallest).

I’d never heard of FOMO before. I certainly get this but it hasn’t got anything to do with others or social media. It’s the pressure I place on myself, often when I know there’s an opportunity and can’t risk missing it. For example, last week we had a day of heavy mist and I was off so knew I couldn’t miss the opportunity. You’re right. You just need to get out and enjoy the moment.

Hi Frank, Thanks for sharing your experience. Frank, in my personal opinion I think that the pressure that one imposes on oneself is in a certain sense good, it is like a little ambition that in the end makes you surpass your own goals, and your point of comparison is yourself, and that seems fine to me within an acceptable limit. In my case something similar happened to you, but with the Comet that is passing by (C2023 Atlas Tsuchinshan), I had managed to get very good photos of the previous comet (C/2022 E3 ZTF), and this time it was impossible for me to get something good!!! I felt very frustrated...but oh well...those are sometimes the rules of the game, in the end I turned around and took photos of the Moon. Frank have a beautiful weekend.

I agree with you on all points. For me the camera is the excuse to get up early in the morning to enjoy are nice sunrise, or taking long walks in the forest no matter the weather. But I am equally happy if I get or good photo or not, being there is the point. A few days ago I had an evening walk and I found out that there is a kingfisher at a local lake. There was no chance of taking a photo as it as skimming fast over the lake. But I was just as happy just because I got to see that magnificent bird in a place where I have been often without seeing it. Such moments are priceless and sometime one get lucky to capture it to share with others.

Hi Claus, thanks for sharing your experience. In my case it is very similar, I actually dedicated myself to photography to make a living from what I like to do, and one of the objectives was to find peace and tranquility. I have certainly found it, perhaps a little too much, but there are days when I have sat down watching the birds and their behavior, completely forgetting why I was really here...to take photos!! But that is the ultimate goal, the peace and tranquility of appreciating how beautiful nature and wildlife are. A hug.

Hi Jo. The story of this video is a bit long, but about 2 months ago while I was photographing flamingos in a lagoon in northern Germany, I had the opportunity to meet a photographer who, unlike me, was completely stressed. When a photographic adventure should be something completely relaxing, for this colleague it had become an ordeal. After talking to him for a short while, I discovered what was behind his desperation: he was looking for the perfect photo of these birds filtering the water in their beaks with the sunset as a background. Since he couldn't get the photo, the poor guy was desperate, since all his friends had come to the same spot and had gotten some incredible photos. I decided to find out about the subject and that behavior, and that's how I found Fomo, which was exactly what was happening to him. Given that experience and after talking to a psychologist friend, I decided to make the video about it. Jo, a hug, and I hope you have some great photo sessions this weekend!!

Mario, hello, i was thinking of buying a used Nikon D3200 with two lenses, 30-55 and 70-300mm, i am on a very low budget so tell me please, is the Sony a57 with one lens better or Nikon d3200 with two lenses? please this is my first time buying a camera thanks!
@MarioKilianPhotography
@MarioKilianPhotography Ай бұрын
Hi Neel, thanks for writing me. Now, to your question... well, it's certainly not an easy answer. But in a quick and painless way I choose the D3200 with both lenses. Now, why? Both cameras are from the same era, early 2010, and both are very good, but there are some points that are important to me, and these points may not be important to other photographers. First, I had the D3200, and I loved it as a camera, its photos were very sharp and had very good colors. Second, the D3200 has a 24 Mpix sensor, versus the 16 of the Sony. The ISO of 12800 that the D3200 reaches is more than enough for 95% of the photos, while the Sony has a greater range up to 25600, but it is not my priority. The Nikon's 4 frames per second is not much... versus the Sony's 12, but it's something you learn to live with, at least in my case. There are many lenses you can find for the Nikon with F mount and at good prices, a good lens is always more important than a good camera. The 70-300 lens, I imagine it's the AF-P, is a very good lens, and with 300mm and patience you can do wonders. Neel, we could talk about this for hours, but my opinion is for the Nikon, although you haven't told me what lens the Sony comes with. A hug and if you have any questions, write me again.

@MarioKilianPhotography
@MarioKilianPhotography Ай бұрын
Hi Prosenjit, of course, there are no secrets here. The first thing is that if we use high ISOs there will be noise, no matter what, and that is inevitable even if we try to use any technique. The solution for any photo with a lot of noise is only a task for the software that exists today. In my case I use two, first Darktable and the Denoise module, and if I am not satisfied with the result I use a software called Denoise from the company TOPAZ. Unfortunately, this one is a paid software, but it gives very good results. A hug and I remain attentive to any questions you may have, just write to me. A hug.

Hi TooToo, yes, the FTZ does not change the qualities of the video, nor have I noticed any differences in the AF when using the lens on my old DSLR. What you should consider is a tripod, good light, etc., which is what is necessary for a good video with a 600 and f6.3 lens. Regards.

Hello Mario, there is one additional method to expose birds in the sky correctely. In my camera (Sony a7 IV) it is possible to let the lightmeter take its values from that area where the focus point is located. If then a smal focus area with traking function is chosen the exposure problems are solved completely.
