Loved the video! Advice for you next runs, though; you're off on the number. Three Houses has *four* different routes you can take, as the Black Eagle route branches off into two wildly different paths halfway through the game. Seeing as you already started with Golden Deer, I *heavily* recommend you do Edelgard's path, by building your support up to C+ with her quickly and then following the choices that support her in the story. The other path given, Silver Snow, is entirely too similar to Golden Deer's Verdant Wind, while Edelgard's Crimson Flower is the most unique of all four. Hope you enjoy them all!

Three Houses is my third attempt at getting into fire emblem and holy shit this game is great. I love the role of professor. It was so easy getting frustrated at units in radiant dawn and fates but in this title when Ashe misses his shot for the sixth time in a single fight I'm more like that's okay buddy we'll work on your archery skills after class this week

It feels good to know all the students from the start of the game because they do fall under our responsibility as Byleth and I think a lot of us feel more sympathetic to them because of that. They feel like real people with backstories and personalities that change over time and that was super engaging the more I played

I think it's kind of a double edged sword. I'm almost finished with my first play through on the blue lions path and I'm broken up at the thought of killing my adorable former students in ng+. I know for damn sure I'm recruiting Mercedes every playthrough. Can't bring myself to murder everyone's big sister

Ashe went from the unit usually left behind accidentally on the battlefield to running solo on one side of the map while still being able to backup the middle of a map easily. He legit never misses a shot in the last few chapters and gets crits most of the time

@@MoistChungus Oh yes, Ashe is really that good! I had a hard time training my child in the beginning, but now he has over 45 dexterity and hits everything in a 4-mile radius. I will never leave my baby behind! Ashe is precious and must be protected! At all costs! And Lysithea is literally the most broken mage I ever used. And I really love Dimitri! That man is my life and I regret absolutely nothing.

Things to enjoy i' the community Awesome art, useful hints, deep analysis, great comics, interesting chart ands news so much stuff. Like being able to enjoy a story with for once Grey morals, conflicting ideology and point of view. Things to avoid as of now those that will bash you because you liked CF, saying it is just waifuism and you have no brain. (long continuation of "if the character you like is or has a girl then you have no brain just a D" that started since Lyn, this time there is barely any fanservice compared to other but hey still waifuism since it is a girl.)

I think in Awakening it was done well and explained. But even without playing fates and just hearing about how it handled the s rank children was pure stupid. No real plot element. We just threw the babies into an alt dimension thing that super aged them. I mean some of the child characters I've seen are adorable and all but...why did it have to be like that?

@@daysand123 I also think it was perfectly fine in Awakening. It was their choice to come back and fight for a better future. Fates on the other hand... yeah. Hard to sympathize with the characters you're fighting with when they impregnate women during war time, shove them in a hyperbolic alternate dimension to give birth, then raise said children apart from their parents in said hyperbolic time dimension only to pull them out and make them fight a war.

@@TheRagingSun coding romances so some of them are locked on one gender and some are shared with the other gender takes more time than using the exact same code for both characters. Not locking romances and making every character bi would save them time that they could, as you said "use to improve the things they've already made". The only thing they would have to do is change the pronouns used in the dialogues depending on the gender you chose to play as. But everything else would be the same between the male and female protagonist.

That damn smile ! and because the GD seemed the odd one out and the weakest . wheter they are right or wrong , i always picked the side of the weakest , kumagawa style . Ended up staying because everyone in the GD are amazing . even after playing all the routes i can still say that the golden deer are the best for me.

I agree. Each route focuses on a different point of view. I heard that the golden deer focuses on the lore of the story. While blue lions and black eagles have their own routes but in a different perspective. In a video game, I wanna learn the lore of the story, I'd rather do that than involve myself in a political brouhaha.

Hey Clemps, really loved the review. You did a lot of justice for the game without going deep into spoilerly territory since the story is pretty juicy throughout the game. I'm just going to leave my musings here for anyone that wanted an extra opinion on 3H after I've finished BL and GD. Three Houses has been a real solid game, definitely in the top half of FE games overall. The way they utilize classic weapon ranks from something to grind up to a new interactive mechanic. The monastery's systems providing unique ways to grow and classes being directions for a unit rather than a set path really helped out with freeing up the game play. I can have Sword focused Wyverns or Fist based Snipers if I want and that's something completely new to the franchise that I've loved to play with. The game overall has been an enjoyable romp after 2 paths and I doubt the other 2 will disappoint. One thing I'd disagree on within the video is the difficulty. Generally the enemies don't have a lot of skills or unique setups like Conquest and made enemies just their stat blocks. I'm waiting for the Lunatic update to see if the game gets more difficult than big numbers, but Hard mode really didn't have a lot of the difficulty built into unique enemy setups and skills that forced you to work around something outside of stats. I'm reserving judgement on game difficulty until we get Lunatic though. Characterization in this game follows a general trend. C supports are gimmicky and really don't do individual characters any favor like you pointed out with Raph, but beyond that it gets really good for an FE game. For most games I'd say about 30% of supports are well written, but 3H has at least over 50% of the conversations being genuinely good, even some of the C supports fall into this. Some characters like Felix just tend to leave strong impressions in their C support and those come across really well, but there are a lot of eh supports as well. For sure a step up from earlier games. I also have to say to anyone worried about the random stat growths that it's really not an issue. The game has an abundance of items that'll give you stat increases and you can change a units class which'll trend their stat growths in certain directions (ie putting someone into bandit will give them better HP and Strength growths, but worse Magic, Defense, and Resistance growths). The game is built to be winnable no matter how stat screwed your characters generally are since most of the students will at least get 1-2 stats per level. It makes each experience with the game different which is something I appreciate and makes replaying FE games more fun. Three Houses overall has been a blast and, even being a pretty big fan of the series, haven't found a ton I want to criticize yet. There are things like the game's slow pacing and the general map design at some points, but overall I've been able to look past those things as I've been absorbed by the entire experience. I hope this review motivates some of you to try this game out since this is another unique Fire Emblem game that brings something new to the table just as every entry has.

As a guy who played in Hard Classic, I can say you're concern with the time-rewind is taken care of. In the later battles I was using rewinds A LOT and every time it got more and more tense AND I HAD AROUND 12 USES. I played True Black Eagles btw.

Why is it that people are so scared of Classic? There is always the restart button in older games, and now you can turn back turns.

Yep. The divine pulse mechanic was essentially a nod to making players lives a little easier for that. You've always been able to potentially lose characters permanently, but it's rare that I see anybody play through like that. Instead, most people lose a unit and reset the whole battle. And personally, restarting a 30+ minute battle because I made one boneheaded move has never felt appealing. The DP ability reaches for a middle ground since you have a limited number of them and it doesn't make the actual battle any easier. It just saves you the frustration of replaying over and over again.

So I decided to check out your channel after I watched your video with buns, and when I realized that you are a fellow die hard fan of Final Fantasy 9, I could feel that I was making an excellent choice subscribing to you. Final Fantasy 9 is not only one of my personal favorite games of all time, but I share a connection to the game that not many people have. I was actually named after the scene with the summoning of Alexander and it was my first ever Final Fantasy game. Genealogy of the Holy War has soooo much of the things you love, and is the most similar in tone to Houses, so consider that when you’ve gotten your fill of 3H. Divinity Original Sin 2 has a nifty social link mechanic as well, where throughout the story, depending on who you have in your party, will change some events and endings to questlines. You're also given the chance to talk to them, individually or as a whole, and get their opinions, as well as get to know them better. It's a nice touch that doesn't force me to go out of my way of the core game just to make sure my mage is happy. They will also interject in conversations if a character you're talking to is connected to that member's personal quest. Good game. Wish more people would play it

I love brooding Hubert and seeing Edelgard switch between her comanding Emporer and insecurities is amazing, and all the depth of the characters makes me want to do so many more playthroughs.

Since you're familiar with Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions (don't know if it's the PSP version or whatever), might I recommend giving Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together - the remake on the PSP - a try? It's got everything War of the Lions had and more: Lots of characters with personality, 'old-timey Englishe' dialogue, no slowdown with combat animation, multiple endings, endless ways to break the game over your knee and, most of all, the precursor to the rewind mechanic used in Three Houses - The Chariot tarot, which allows you to rewind any and all actions up to 50 turns. Most of the internet seems to have completely forgotten about the entire Ogre franchise, so, if anyhow possible, might I persuade you into giving the PSP remake a chance? It's worth a look, if for no other reason, then the fact that Final Fantasy Tactics was built upon the framework the original Tactics Ogre laid down.

I wish there was a harder mode to the game. I felt like (having completed the golden deer route) there really weren’t enough places where I felt challenged enough by hard difficulty. Maybe that will change with the dlc I don’t know.

The reference to Kaim from Lost Odyssey gives me hope for a review. I'd love to see it, considering that both it and Nier were considered the big cult classic JRPGs of the PS3 Xbox 360 era (It doesn't help that the former's thousand years of dreams sequences influenced the latter's Choose your own adventure segment in the forest area).

But also to find others to gripe with because trying to decide which goals my students should take on in order to reach the Master Class I wanted for them but being unable to concurrently see the requirements for the Master Class is a major headache.

I find it fascinating seeing how other people interpret Lorenz. Right away I could see that his whole thing is that he isn't at all a bad person, he just can't read a room or understand people outside of the strict social rules of nobility. As an autistic person I really appreciated it.
