BMW r90/6 carburetor reconditioning

I am redoing an identical bike, and finding these tutorials absolutely invaluable. I started with the carbs and an oil change just to see if I could get the bike started, but now realize how much I SHOULD do before I even think abut riding. BTW, this is very much a barn find, too, so probably better go through the whole thing.

Does it matter which high tension cable from the coil goes to the left or right side? I can’t see where it’s covered in the instructions. Thank you.

Hi @Boxer2valve. I recently bought a BMW R60/6. And since there is a little light missing in the dashboard. I started watching some videos on youtube. And I came across your videos. They are really good 👍Nice that there are some who care to explain how things should be done. so I can also understand how it is done. so I can also understand how it is done. And another cable for the instrument lighting, where can it be bought? p.s. I am from Denmark. Have a nice day.

I recall 32 years ago, I had oil leaking after replacing the main seal. As you know, the seal seats on the outside of the flywheel boss, but I suspected it was leaking between the crank shaft end and the boss ID, coming out around the 5 bolts. I stopped it by laying a small bead of RTV down into that recess. It stopped the leak but as a non-professional, I questioned the fix. I was delighted to discover in your video that this was in fact needed when you mentioned that in model years 75 or 76 BMW added an ‘O’ ring. My R90S is a 1974 so that was missing. Thanks for your great videos. Regards, Andy

I like your videos, but glanced over the circlips for the piston pins. Not easy! boing!!!!!! Be careful they don't go into the open engine. You have to roll them in, with a pair of good needle nose.

William @boxer2valve, thank you for your very informative video series. Question: In another video, you show a home-made timing cover puller. Wouldn't this make an ideal tool to hold the crankshaft while working on the clutch/rear main seal (assuming that you keep the timing cover bolts in place)? After watching your R90 video, it occurred to me that that might be much more secure than the strap you used in this video.

Overall the videos are really helpful William. But this one isn't good enough. Not enough close ups. Bushing bit for example. What allen key size was cut down. It's like you guys hurried through this. Which is disappointing as I purchased the downloads and I'll be frustrated looking at your arm in the close ups instead of seeing what you're doing.

About that little clamp at the bottom of the bezel; does the hinge or the open part face the bucket? Sick of having the old stock bezel fall out on bumpy roads.

Thank you. 2 things: (1) I find it a PAIN in this SIMPLEST task of putting the tiniest o-ring on the outside mixture screw - worrying about overstretching it or not damaging the needle on the screw ….?! (2) Last step: You should stick your finger in the carb throat and lift the CV slide and make sure it descends smoothly on its own. I just got a couple diaphragms from one of the major aftermarket guys (generally good) and the diaphragms were of rubber that was slightly too heavy, and the slide would not descend! (Also, the outside diameter of the diaphragm was very slightly larger than it should be and didn’t drop readily into the recess like OEM does. )

William hi. I have set my Vape ignition timing up exactly as you and the instructions state but I am getting pre- ignition or pinking as we say here in the UK when under load i.e going up hills. I have retarded the ignition by moving the rotor by approx the diameter of the pickup to stop this which I do not believe can be the right thing. Do you have any suggestions so I can get it back into the location it should be in.? WhenI strobe it now the OT is way off. Many thanks for any help and suggestions

Always nice to watch! Have a question is it possible to lower the fork without cutting the forks. Some use a washer method. Could this be done for lets say 5cm? Where should the washer be placed? I have a bmw r80rt from 1985. Thx

Hello There! Recently I bought a Vape charging system form you and installed in my 1953 R67/2 (Charging system only). I installed everything very carefully as instructions shown. Before I connected the battery I checked three times all connections, checked all ground points and also installed a fuse in + battery point and another fuse in main switch (lamp). Right now I do not have any power in my bike so I checked again, all good. Today I watch again this video and realized you connected the original battery positive wire (30) to the battery (Both, original wire and Vape regulator positive battery)... The instructions only show me to connect the positive wire from Vape regulator... (As I have right now). Do I must connect also the original positive battery wire (30) to the battery??? please help!!! thank youy very much!
