@@nath-hh2ff It’s not OP in an air to air role, you need to fly it well to get the most out of it. I don’t have much of an issue shooting them down when I’m flying other things. But it could be considered OP in a versatility sense; it does provide blue with a capable multi role platform for performing basically any role at all to a higher standard than anything else - it can even carry more Mavs than the A-10 since they limited the A-10 to 4, which seems a little silly. Sparrows with boresight mode are perhaps a little bit strong given nothing else has access to all aspect missiles, so perhaps barring it from taking any on the 60s rotation and making them cost points to bring 4 on the 70s would be a good solution. Personally I wouldn’t mind at all if they made it cost points to bring out, earning points is fairly easy and making people have to engage the ground attack objectives to spawn the F-4 would both progress the campaign and reduce the Phantom spam - it’s generally the only thing I see on blue anymore, there’s not a lot of reason to fly anything else if you have it.

I think that since the phantom is a more historically well known aircraft, that more people care about, most people will just get the phantom because they like it. Think about how many people get the f 16 even though the f 18 is pretty much just better in Dcs.

@@mrcat5508 definitely agreed there, the Phantom was probably the most hyped module that's released since I've been playing DCS and it helps that Heatblur knocked it out of the park. Anyone looking to play on the server on blue can choose between a fairly dated rendition of the F5, the far more obscure viggen, the skyhawk which while it is free many people don't know or remember that it exists because it isn't a listed module when looking at the shop, or the Phantom which is modeled better than basically everything else on the list, both functionally and visually.

I think that where it’s at right now there are a bit too many phantoms, but if they updated the MiG 21 and f5 and released an f8 then there would be a lot more diversity, but even then there would be a lot of phantom players

80s tends to be more populated, with better missiles. 60s limits weapons to early missiles with no Fox-1s available. Basically boils down to which combat style you prefer, I’m more of a dogfighting guy so I like 60s when people are on it.

@ Either the Fishbed, Farmer or F1, depending on which you prefer. F1 can do a bit more, gives you more bang for your buck but costs more, doesn’t get put on sale yet because it’s still in early access release. Fishbed is old but gold, cheaper full fid module but plenty capable with some practice, it can dabble a bit in air to ground too. Farmer is a rate fighting, thrust generating machine but hard to make work if you’re not fully aware of dogfight fundamentals, it’s the least versatile of the set, but arguably the most satisfying to master. Would recommend grabbing the Su-25a Frogfoot in addition, probably makes most sense to just grab the FC3 pack then you’ll get a bunch of other stuff too. The Froggy is a bit of a meme in a dogfight, truly dangerous in the right hands and a very good ground pounder for the era.

Great video as usual, very informative. So Jester sucks. Can Jester IFF bandit at least ? I suppose when you boresight lock , you can't IFF like in Mirage M2000C? I have the F4, but I did not even bother flying it once. I get half of FPS on Enigma or Contention than what I get in any other module and this is without starting up the aircraft. I just spawn on the server to check the FPS and see that it's shit and change to a module that actually works with acceptable FFS. Petrovich works flawlessly in MI24P and George is decent in Apache. Seems like Jester is just shit and you have to use him for Fox 1s

@@NoRegret08 He can and will IFF everything under the sun, constantly - I think he has to interrogate before he can lock a target so his procedure goes something like: 1) Detection 2) Interrogation 3) Commanded by player to either monitor or lock the target, or switch to another if there are other things on scope. You use the same button for all of these actions, depending on contextual relevance and the length of the press. You can get by without him, sort of - the boresight mode essentially locks the radar to your nose, and Sparrows will automatically track whatever the beam illuminates. But you lose the ability to IFF and because there’s no legitimate target lock, you don’t know if the missile is going to see them or not, and you don’t get any guidance info like their closing speed, aspect or range. Which means you also lack the launch parameter thing that tells you when you’re most likely to hit. To help up your chances you can tell Jester which speed gate to set the radar for, so his involvement becomes putting the radar in boresight and then rotating a 5 position knob to the setting you ask for which he does about as proficiently as if the binds for the inputs were for the pilot, he is generally good at doing what you ask when you ask for it. I’ve probably got most of my Sparrow kills using boresight mode, the biggest benefit is that you can launch at things hugging the deck because ground clutter doesn’t matter and you have 4 Sparrows so generally I don’t mind speculative shots because losing the weight is a good thing pre-merge anyway. In a Cold War setting I feel at a slight disadvantage if I’m flying into a furball on the deck, compared to flying the MiG-21 primarily; y’know those moments where you can see multiple aircraft engaged in a dogfight but you’re struggling to ID which one to go for? The Fishbed’s radar massively over performs at this, but being able to use it to very clearly ID targets is a dream the Phantom can’t compete with. But with other methods like tracer colour, flare patterns, engine smoke etc you can get by just fine, especially online where just about every populated server tends to have EWR reports. I’m generally pretty sure what I’m shooting at is hostile just from the contact reports alone.

I really miss the IFF on Mirage F1EE. MIG21 has a huge advantage with situational awareness. Most often than not, there is a friendly nearby. MirageM2000C is very strong. I also know the Su27/J11A,.Mig 15,.19,.F86F, F5E all trainers. Very satisfying to kill f16 in C-101Cc.Have not flown F16 in over 2 years and not interested in trying it again. Learned KA50,.M24P,.Gazelle, and now Apache. I really don't like the MFD riddled planes. Contention is the only always populated server without Fox 3s and first person only. I can't stand external views on PVP servers,.same as PUBG

@ I record in 2k to match my monitor, but render in 4k for KZbin, crank the bitrate up to near max, and in game I have it locked to 150fps with max settings so that’s probably where the smoothness comes from mainly, I don’t use Reshade so the colours are just natural DCS. The only complaint I have about shadowplay is that I can’t (at least to my knowledge) separate the audio into more than 2 tracks. My desktop audio and my mic, sometimes not being able to separate Discord audio can be a real pain in the arse.

@Tome4kkkk I’ve never tried the direct upload settings, I always assumed it would bypass my upload defaults. I use the H.264 codec and render as an MP4, adjust a few settings to max and check the box for rendering cached images.

Ive been getting crushed playing the f4 on contention, i wish HBCW was more populated. At the end of the day i get multiple kill sorties in the mig 21 vs. The f4 and not the other way around. It is more difficult, but way more fun! And i try to not use jester + sparrow as much

If you have the pc and a hotas, no need to wait, start tooling around in the damn frogfoot you get for free. Then as other airframes or maps go on special pick them up. I got super carrier and fa/18 both on a 20% off sale after flying the frogfoot for about 70 hours. I had a blast in the frogfoot and am now having a blast in the hornet… when the next sale comes around I’ll pick up another plane and have even more fun in that! Seriously though the su25t is a super fun plane to tool around in… and it’s a challenging plane to fly so it prepares you for the more high performance airframes. If your interested in the game there is no reason not to start playing.

Total surface level understanding. The radar IS modeled wrong, because the word "modern" is really load-bearing here. It is, in essence, a first generation MTI system, and it didn't really work all that well or reliably. It was easily overwhelmed with ground clutter, particularly at high ground aspect, in bad weather, or at low altitude. In practice, it was not capable of look-down shoot-down operation, due to how unreliable the system was. This lack of reliability is basically not modeled at all, making the radar in the game significantly better than it should be. Cyrano IVM MTI was basically a slap-on module that worked so poorly it rarely saw actual usage in the field. It was, in fact, used so little, we actually don't really have much documentation on its MTI capabilities, other than anecdotes from pilots saying what boils down to that it sucks.

Not sure I shared this with you. When I asked my father how he would have fought the MIGs in Vietnam he said the following; "I would take advantage of the Phantoms massive fuel load (21,000lbs). I would drag the MIGs out to sea and when they RTB due to low fuel, I would turn around and hunt/run them down. The drag distance between me and the MIGs would be 3-5 miles to give the MIG pilots "hope" of catching and shooting me down. CGI would give me the radio calls to maintain this safe 3-5 mile distance. As soon as they break off to RTB, I drop tanks if they are empty, turn 180 degrees, and get into burner." I see you are regularly checking your fuel state. The J79 on the deck and in MAX AB uses 1000lbs per minute or, 2,000lbs per minute in the Phantom. Dad said if you have full internal fuel at the merge, you have about 3-4 minutes of burner time, always good to set a "soft" BINGO at 6000-6500 lbs. Internal is 12,000 lbs. He also said when using the vertical, you consume less fuel because you are in burner "only half the time" as you are in military power on the way down and, the higher you go the less fuel us burned even for a few seconds at 10K to 30K ft when flying The Egg. Meanwhile the MIG stays in burner if he stays horizontal. Good idea to gain altitude to consume fuel. I know its a game but nothing says you need to stick around until you run out of fuel RTB when BINGO or leave the fight because you don't have the fuel. In Vietnam, hard BINGO was 4,000lbs I believe. Just some things to think about when MAX performing the F-4. Next video I will comment on which is the better fighter. My answer might surprise you. Enjoying the content, always. Cheers!

I absolutely love the F4 for the modeling and the flight model. Which is good enough to make it painfully obvious how terrible it is compared to modern fighters. All of that said...people justify VR with their "realism, bruh". But, they're aware, deep down, 2D head tracking saves 25 hours of setup and bad performance. Pro Tip...A C172 pulling a 45* steep turn at 1.4g provides more "ReAlIsM" than some lame headset can provide at $1,200+hardware to support it+the setup time. Oh, and Jester is SO bad they should be ashamed they talked it up so much.

Nice kills. Shut me up if you've heard this one already but I find that if you scan narrow and use the Jester commands to look at different altitude bands (0-10k, 10-20k etc) he will do so pretty reliably, and find a target. If the bandit isn't absolutely cockroaching, I find them at 15 nm on average. When the scope is in the 50 nm setting, he scans the requested altitude band at 30 nm and when the scope is in the 25 nm setting I *think* he does it at 15 nm. Either way, he uses the map and nutation mode which scans ~10 deg up and down so you effectively get a wide-ish 2 bar scan going and he's not useless in this mode. You can also hold his hand a little and bind a coarse gain control (fine tends to be useless without a human WSO) and it sometimes helps him pick up targets more easily. Another advantage to controlling gain is that in boresight mode (25 nm or 5 nm), you can drop the gain enough so the target breaks out clearly on the scope which works in lookdown decently well and then you can command him to lock. It's WAY more reliable than trying a CAA lock in look-down conditions. HB has mentioned that they wish to tune is gain sweeping algorithm so you won't have to do it yourself. If you really want to be obsessive, you can slap some lines from the WSO commands into the pilot's default.lua to turn off the ground stab mode, allowing you to point the radar directly ahead at all times.

Indeed, the F1 is an inversely proportional value-for-money option. The fact that it comes ( in the end ) in three versions has boost its price. But what's the use of having an F1M with a modern cockpit while you have to deal with Su-27 and MiG-29 that have much better performance ? This is masochism to lose while sitting in a modern cockpit. In my opinion the module should have been complete with the Mirage-F1C and F1E versions featuring more weapons like the AS-30L and the AM-39 Exocet missiles. Let us wait for the Kfir C-2/7 to appear in DCS for a decent cold war dogfighter.

It's only best because Mirage's F1 Missiles are banned. With false accusation, that radar is wrong modeled/ overpowered. Accusation is based only on WT badly modelled F1. Otherwise Phantom would be decimated. Everyone knows it.

I don't think anyone would dispute that a broken good radar + missile combo is better than a well-modeled one. In fact, that's exactly why ECW/HBCW ended up removing the radar missiles from the F1.

I did a bomber intercept the same as in the video and shot a Sparrow 5 miles off the tail of a Tu95 while I was going mach 1 and it somehow didn't reach. They're such garbage missiles I barely even bother carrying them.

@@FJFuentesCO I remember going through that when I was getting started, the best advice I can give is to make sure you take the time to check the HSI for the compass bearing - sometimes it feels like spending time looking down into the cockpit instead of up out the window will cost you; and it probably will at first, but the more time you spend practicing checking headings the quicker you’ll be at doing it and you might even get a feel for where to look without even needing to check the compass every time. The other thing is that the EWR reports are really only accurate for 10 seconds at best due to travel speeds, so you have to sort of “lead” your gaze a bit in the same way you aim ahead of a moving target. For example, if a report says a contact is bearing 230, flanking right, scan the entire 90° arc from 230 to 290, look where they’re likely to be going rather than where they were at the point of the last report update. Also much like taking the time to check the bearing, check the altitude as well, I remember getting too caught up in how much info was being presented to me and just defaulting to looking horizontally for things as if everyone was flying level all the time, the extra time it takes to cross reference the extra info feels like a drag, but the more you do it the better you get at filtering info that’s important and checking it all against your own instrumentation. Lastly, always assume you’re looking for a tiny pixel speck, the hardest thing for me was trying to gauge what size I should expect a target to be; I felt like if I knew how big the thing I was looking for would be, finding it would be easier. But it’s basically always smaller than you think. If in doubt, run towards the sun or a teammate. A good enemy pilot will focus hot contacts over cold ones, and the sun can spoof Fox-2 launches you might be otherwise unaware of whilst you’re getting your bearings. Maybe I should put all this into a video 🤔

@@krzysztofgawe1089 My understanding is that MTI is a mode or sub mode rather than the general operating mode, either way it's definitely not modelled properly - if at all, since the clutter on the scope is essentially a looping gif.

@@krzysztofgawe1089 I do admit I forgot the F-4 is not a Doppler and I am also deep into all these technologies but the fact still stand that the F1 radar is unrealistically modeled currently. there is no way an old radar like that would clearly see a return over 20 miles away skimming treetops. The f-4 radar could be just as unrealistically modeled being way better than it should be, but it is not. Technically this makes the module better but in terms of multi it is a clear disadvantage

@Bullet4MyEnemy its a module block that includes doppler filter and clutter filter. If you want i may include here detailed description that includes graphs for signal filtration. There are comparison filteted /unfiltered. Mirage radar is not complete, but it's not "overpowered", as most community declares. Mostly by comparasion with War Thunder. "DCS is different, so it must be wrong". Don't expect that fully modeled radar would be much different.

@@jpatty5473 obv in mp a lot of context will matter, but I just don't get people who say the F-4E can't dogfight or BFM, when I fly it on HBCW or SR 1960/70s I feel like every fight is mine to lose. Plus the missile count (4 x IR, 4 x Radar) means you have missiles to gamble with. F1, F-5E, MiG-21, and MiG-19P all have things they do well and can use against F-4E, so it does come down to pilot and fuel state. However, if I was picking, I'd pick the F-4E or F1 over the others in terms of meta (and also fun/quality of the modules).

the F4 has its merits especially in mud moving but I think the F1 is more suitable as a fighter

F-4 is better in every way in my opinion, I've never lost a df to an f1 I'm the f4, in private games or online

F-1 can one circle better and only rates slightly worse, a good defensive pilot could evade a Phantom long enough to flip the fight or cause the Phantom fuel problems. And that’s only if the Phantom plays it right and maintains energy enough to properly rate, which is rare in my experience. Definitely killed more Phantoms in the F1 than the other way around; but that could just be bias on my part from flying the F1 a lot more.

Mirage-F1 ecxept for the advantage in one cycle turn, it had better low altitude performance ( including two cycle ) because the F-4E presented a much higher drag in the thick air. If the F1 is equipped with only two IR-guided missiles without burdensome payload like R-530's it can defeat the F-4E in every occasion. Provided the developers have taken the factor of the different drag values in various altitudes into consideration.

It's crazy how everytime how people praise WT in some way, I feel a level of necessity to get them back to reality and make them realize how shit the game is lol. This game at this point is not much different from DCS other than it has much less fidelity for its planes, and its a lot more "gamey".
