I have to monitor my blood sugars constantly so my numbers wont go too low. The problem is when I eat meals. My numbers soar. Does anyone take metformin wirh the Victoza?
@pillsandthings
@pillsandthings Ай бұрын
If you are asking whether people are on both Metformin and Victoza, the answer is yes, there are many people that take both. If you are asking about the timing of taking Metformin and Victoza at the same time, Metformin should generally be taken around mealtime whereas Victoza can be taken at any time of the day. Some general strategies to help with blood sugar soaring at mealtime is to eat more fiber (helps decrease sugar absorption), eating less carbs, and going for a walk after mealtime. Always talk to your doctor about your concerns and what is most appropriate for your specific situation.

Insurance refuses to pay for Cialis or its generic equivalent. They say it treats ED, and being unable to have sex is OK by them. They refuse to believe that this drug helps BPH. It does...I'm speaking from personal experience. Viagra also helps but it doesn't stay in body for as long.
@pillsandthings
@pillsandthings 8 ай бұрын
Yeah I guess it depends on the insurance. I know some insurances will cover cialis, but will require a prior authorization to make sure it’s being used for the prostate. That being said, the cash price for generic Cialis (tafalafil) has come down considerably to where it’s pretty affordable even without insurance.

I think insurances justify it by saying it’s not a medical necessity and just recreational but yeah, one can make the case that ED is also part of healthcare and thus should be covered by health insurance.

I have high blood pressure and Dr prescribed 10mg of Amlodipine taken in conjunction with 32mg of Candesartan. There were time when my BP was close to normal, but in general high. He has now, just lately put me on 40mg of Olmesartan taken by itself. I was experiencing swelling, puffiness of the right foot along with itchiness in the neck and shoulder area. Do you think the olmesartan is a better alternative for the BP and reducing my swelling and itchiness
@pillsandthings
@pillsandthings Жыл бұрын
The swelling/puffiness in the leg was most likely due to the high dose Amlodipine as it is pretty notorious for that. Now that you will no longer take Amlodipine, that side effect should improve. The itching can potentially happen with all 3 medications so I can only hope that the Olmesartan will have less of that. Regarding the blood pressure, there are a few studies that show that Olmesartan is more effective at lowering blood pressure than Candesartan alone, but I don’t know if it will be more effective than the Candesartan with the Amlodipine combination. As a side note, some lifestyle modifications that can also help to lower blood pressure are: exercising more, eating less salt/sodium, weight loss (if needed), and stress management.

Jardiance VS Metformin?? for Insulin Resistance??
@pillsandthings
@pillsandthings Жыл бұрын
Both medications have studies showing they can improve insulin resistance but I was not able to find any head to head studies to see which one was better at improving insulin resistance. That being said, Jardiance is usually added on top of Metformin in type 2 diabetes, so most people will probably be on both unless side effects are an issue. As a side note, exercise and weight loss can help a good deal with insulin resistance.

Yeah unfortunately there are pros and cons to every medication. It’s only recommended to take them if the pros outweigh the cons but the cons are still there. Eating healthy and exercising are the best medicine but unfortunately they may be hard to implement and maintain, and might not be enough in some cases.

If doctors really was in the business to help patients, why give someone a prescription of Jardiance? My thought would be giving patients a low dose of a long acting insulin like: Lantus, a maintenance dosage of 3 mgs daily shows significant improvements of controlling higher A1C, no stress on the kidneys, improved heart function, less chances of strokes, no infections, ect., Why don't doctors research the choices instead of jumping to a medication that has more cons than pros? The most known diabetic medication to treat diabetes is Metformin, been around for many years, but it causes more harm than good. Why not use Lantus or a long acting insulin, that helps insulin receptors to recommunicate within the cells? The number one cause from type 2 diabetes is called insulin resistance, it's because the insulin receptors stop functioning simply because the glucose does not use it as an energy source like it should due to the insulin receptors temporarily loss of communication.

3 mg? That’s 300 units of insulin. That would be an extremely lethal dose
@pillsandthings
@pillsandthings Жыл бұрын
Great question. The choice of diabetes medication to take is highly individualized and depends on a shared decision making between the patient and the prescribing doctor. Everything has its pros and cons, including insulin. Pros are that insulin doses can be titrated to whatever the patient needs to lower their blood sugar. Cons are that insulin can cause weight gain, low blood sugar episodes, daily injections (which many people hate), require closer glucose monitoring (which require more frequent finger pricks, which people hate), and insulin is expensive (although costs should be coming down soon allegedly). Regarding heart disease benefits, insulin has mixed results. Lantus (glargine) specifically showed a neutral cardiovascular risk per the ORIGIN trial. Since heart disease is the main reason people die from diabetes, that may explain why doctors are choosing medications like Jardiance with proven heart disease benefits. Here are some good articles to read for further information on the topic. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4315664/ www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4900970/

Does taking Farxia mean that it can lead to hypoglycemia? I consume a whole-food diet with little sugar. I am scared that my diet will have to include more sugar so that I do not have hypoglycimea when taking Farxiga. Does this medicine make the pancreas not work anymore on its own because the sugar metabolim is taken over by the medication? Or does it give the pancreas a break? Does the chemical compound in Farxiga purify or toxify the physicology In course of time? Will the pancreas not work anymore at all because it is not used in a normal way? Do people just become dependent on this medicine for life? Does the body have a chace to get back its own healthy functionality or is the body's own functionality inhibited.
@pillsandthings
@pillsandthings Жыл бұрын
Regarding ‘being dependent on this medication for life’, this medication treats diabetes in that it lowers blood sugar, but it doesn’t cure diabetes, so most people would take it long term to prevent their blood sugar from going back up. That being said, I’ve seen some people that dramatically increased their exercise, reduced their carbs/sugar intake, and lost weight and were able to come off of their diabetes medication (with the approval of their doctor of course). It’s not easy, but possible. It also depends on how far along the diabetes is because at some point, the insulin producing beta cells in the pancreas get ‘burnt out’ and stop producing insulin so there may be a point of no return. Exercise, low carb diet, and weight loss can still help reduce the amount of injected insulin needed though (if a person has reached that point).

So take a drug that costs $12K/yr. to lose 5-10 pounds. Weight that will come back if you stop taking this drug. I understand use for diabetes but these drugs are being prescribed to weight loss alone - this is driving the supply chain issues and preventing individuals with diabetes from getting their medicine.

@pillsandthings
@pillsandthings Жыл бұрын
Generally, the dosing is usually started at 0.25 mg of Ozempic for the first 4 weeks and then it is increased to 0.5 mg. This slow taper is done to prevent/limit side effects like nausea/vomiting and allow your body to get used to the medication. If you are concerned or are experiencing side effects, make sure to talk to your doctor. The 0.5 mg dose Ozempic pen should have the capability to give 0.25 mg as well, but make sure to follow your doctor’s directions.

By chance I came across this video and another with similar information about a month ago and so grateful. I hard dealing with a chronic yeast infections for two years and no matter what I tried nothing seemed to work. Prior to that I had no problems at all so such a change can be life changing Anyway after I watching your video I tried a little experiment and paused taking jardience which I used along with Metformin ER for about a two weeks, all the while I closely monitored my sugar levels via glucose meter so I can act accordingly. I chose two weeks because that was about the longest break I had between dealing with the recurring infections also for me it was a safe period of especially with glucose monitoring. Well, the results were remarkable and now I’m almost a month out with no symptoms and my glucose levels are just as good just as good. I will be sharing my results to my doctor at the next visit. Fortunately we work together on my health care plan and will be revised accordingly. This has made such a difference in my quality of life and I thank you. You now have a new subscriber. Just started Trulicity .75 yesterday. My last A1C was 8.1. My Doc did not change my prescription of Jardiance which is at 25mg. I've also been taking the Berberine and Chromium Picolinate supplements for several weeks, as well as Zinc, B complex, and Magnesium for several months. I do 18-6 fasting schedule on top of it all. All together I am concerned that my blood sugar levels will drop too low. Am I over thinking this or unnecessarily worried?
@pillsandthings
@pillsandthings Жыл бұрын
Both Trulicity and Jardiance generally have low rates of low blood sugar episodes (hypoglycemia). That being said, the more blood sugar lowering agents you have on board, the higher that risk can become (especially when you throw fasting into the mix). If you are concerned about low blood sugar with the addition of Trulicity, talk to your doctor about potentially checking your blood sugar more frequently for a few weeks until you can get a good baseline of where your blood sugar is at. Since your A1C is at 8.1% and you are not taking anything notorious for hypoglycemia, you’re risk of low blood sugar episodes is probably on the low end, but the only way to know for sure is to monitor for symptoms of low blood sugar (lightheadedness, sweating, shaking, palpitations, excessive hunger, etc.) and check your blood sugar. There may be other factors involved that I am unaware of, so talking to your doctor about any concerns that you have is always recommended.

@pillsandthings Жыл бұрын
I’m glad to hear that it is helping to lower your blood sugar and curb your appetite! Unfortunately, anything that slows the emptying of the stomach (like Trulicity) can also contribute to heartburn symptoms because the contents of the stomach can sometimes back up into your esophagus (which can cause acid reflux symptoms). Eating smaller meals might help prevent this, if you haven’t tried that already. If it continues to be a serious issue, make sure to discuss it with your doctor.

I'm going back to discuss what to do next because the slow food release, reduced food thoughts (history of extreme hunger pains and BED), and reduced inflammatory pain from the Mounjaro is AMAZING but the side effects are exhausting, and I'm not sure it is actually doing much to help weight actually come off (which would eventually - hopefully - improve the inflammatory pain further). I've recently been given Ozempic for weight loss, however I still have a few pens of Saxenda (Liraglutide) left in my fridge from a past prescription. Would taking the two together be alright, if Saxenda was used at a low dose?
@pillsandthings
@pillsandthings 2 жыл бұрын
Do not take them together as that would be a duplication of therapy (they are in the same drug class) and thus can increase the risk of side effects if taken together. Saxenda may seem like a small dose but it’s comparing apples to oranges as Ozempic and Saxenda have different potencies. You can look at Saxenda as a higher dose Victoza since it literally has the same active drug ingredient as Victoza. If you don’t want to waste the remaining Saxenda, ask your doctor if you can finish it off before switching to Ozempic. If you have already started the Ozempic, do not take the Saxenda on top of it. Hope that helps.
