Thank you for this video! I have been thinking of taking the CELTA course, and I am doubting a lot! I always had a passion for learning languages, I have a Bachelor's in English and Chinese Linguistics, I am 27, I have been on maternity leave for a long time because of circumstances, I am from Ukraine, but moved to Germany, and all of these factors influence a lot. Now I am trying to understand is a career of an ESL teacher for me or should I learn and transfer to another field. So, thank you again for sharing the experience.

21:45 - "Put the cat among the pigeons" is equivalent to "mexer com casa de marimbondo" in Brazilian Portuguese. Thanks for sharing your experience and insights as a digital nomad teacher. I am watching you from Biguaçu, southern Brazil.

@FergusFadden Imagina! This expression is very common in Brazil. Recently some Argentinian TV hosts "mexeram com casa de marimbondo" when they took the piss out of Fernanda Torres about her hair at the Golden Globes Awards. When people criticize Brazil or Brazilians, they need to know that they are "mexendo com casa de maribondo" haha. I'm an EFL teacher based in Manaus in the state of Amazonas. I am in Santa Catarina on vacay now, but tomorrow I'll be flying back to Manaus. So, a couple of weeks ago I watched a digital nomad's vlog where he described what his life was like as a digital nomad, and that piqued my curiosity. I wondered if teachers also ventured out as digital nomads, so I found your vid and that was the answer to my question haha. Honestly, I don't think I'm cut out for this, but I'd like to know more about it. Enjoy your stay in São Paulo to the fullest. :)
@FergusFadden3 күн бұрын
Hey there! thank you so much for reaching out and I love the cultural insight for the use of "mexeram com casa de marimbondo". I completely hear you about not feeling cut out for the life of a digital nomad. I love the freedom of being able to go on these kinds of wonderful adventures and not having my job hold me back. At the same time, life out of a suitcase gets tiring and I miss my creature comforts of being home! I guess for me, like all things in life it's about finding balance. I was just talking to a friend about Manuas recently - I have never been further North in Brazil than Vitoria em Espírito Santo but I would very much love to know more of the nordeste and amazonas - one day I hope :)

I live in the UK have started teaching English online part-time, alongside my full-time 9-5 job. I am considering to become a digital nomad. I would like to backpack through south-east Asia and work remotely. My main concern is Internet access and reliable, stable wifi. I am looking at various mobile hotspots such as Solis Lite by Simo. I am not sure how much data I would need to buy per month to be able to teach at least 10 hrs a week. Any advice from experienced online English teachers who travel the world would be greatly appreciated.

I am interested in doing CELTA Cambridge here in London from a brilliant teacher and good college but when I heard it’s intensive and hard and I saw many online videos how tough it is that people gave up as one need to be strong for it then I m so put off and decide to do Tefl and now their are so many Tefls like diploma level 5 Tefl is best or level 3 Tefl is good and the institutes you mentioned here international is good or TTA is best I mean confused also I prefer in person live sessions so I’m really working hard which one goes for me and what to do do next
@FergusFadden4 күн бұрын
I completely understand the feeling. It's true what they say about the intensity of CELTA but there are other ways of doing it e.g. once a week over 3 to 4 months is offered by some centres. Als,o the intensity does not equate to impossible - the vast majority of people who go for CELTA are successful and find it most rewarding. Hi there. Justine here from South Africa. I've just started the TEFL Advanced Diploma 500 hour online course through i-to-i. But am now concerned as it landed a B rating on the scale. Have I made a big mistake? Will this affect my chances of finding employment? I'd appreciate your feedback. Thank you.
@FergusFadden4 күн бұрын
Hi Justine! South Africa is one of my favourite places! I delivered 4 CELTAs there between 2015 and 2017 (in Durban). I will say that my ratings are quite subjective and I am very open to being challenged or others who have another perspective. At the end of the day the rating systems was not put out there to exclude anything that wasn't S+. Each course has it's place for each person. I just bought an i-to-i course because of their Black Friday sale and FOMO. But after reading their Trustpilot review, I'm not requesting for cancellatiion and refund. And that was their number red flag, they ignore you after they sold you their course. I'm still waiting for them to get back to me.
@FergusFadden3 күн бұрын
Oh my! that is a terrible situation - how did it turn out? did you get a refund?
@redchen36823 күн бұрын
@ Thanks for this, it reminds me to update you. They keep pushing back my refund-it’s been over a month. Their refund process is super weird and sketchy, making you log in to some other site. The only upside is I chose their installment plan, so I’m only out $100. But here’s the kicker: it’s been a month, and they didn’t charge me this month as planned. They’ve basically canceled future payments but still won’t refund my initial one. It’s clear these guys are scammers. They might have started off okay, but now they’re just like all the others out to rip you off. First-hand reviews were good, but new ones on Trustpilot are painting a very different picture.

@FergusFadden True I will check it out but I am going to be getting the practical experience to while I work My way up now I do admit that I don't have a college degree so it's a constant uphill battle but I want to show them that high school graduates can do it just as good as or if not better than college graduates can.

100% I completely agree with you. In my humble opinion I would say college degrees are not the be all and end all. If you have an inner drive and willingness to learn in a practical way then there is no reason why a college degree should hold you back and possibly it is a wise decision given the exorbitant fees for college courses!
