another interesting interpretation of Rape Me that I've seen is that it's a satirisation to the idea of "she was asking for it", putting forward that idea from the perspective of a victim rather than a perpetrator in the bluntest way possible to demonstrate how disgusting and ridiculous that "excuse" is

I get frustrated when people focus on the sound more than the lyrics. The reason this album is one of the best because every song has a meaning.

Igorrr became one of my favorite bands ever. Some friends introduced it to me back in 2013 when I started college for the first time. "Brutal Swing" was the first song I ever heard by them and it trully changed my taste in music. Since that, I present this band whenever someone I know says they "Listen to everything" "Oh, really?" I say glazing at shallow pond inside their eyes as I'm ready to turn it in an abyss by the pressing of a play button

The Downwar Incel. That is what this album is. Genius, even before Incel was coined. Insecurity. Wrath. Superiority. Depression. Suicide.

definitely has nothing to do with incels, sex addiction is rampant throughout the album.

Interesting that you picked-up on the raw production. Steve Albini produced/engineered this album, and that sound is his signature... and why Nirvana wanted him. Go down that rabbit hole... Other albums he's produced (notably, the Pixes Surfer Rosa), and his many bands, starting with Big Black.

And even though Kurt said publicly that "Rape me" was an anti-rape song, it has nothing to do with actual rape, but with the betrayal of a journalist that befriended his wife, then reported that she was taking drugs while pregnant which led to them temporarily losing their child. In interviews he talks about how the journalist used "inside sources" and Courtney publicly said she felt violated.
@ethanvilla44189 ай бұрын
This is the anti-Nevermind album, with Kurt deliberately trying to alienate some of the fans that he didn't want listening to his music, so the songs are less "pop" and less radio-friendly.

What a review!!!! Can't be bothered to do some even rudimentary research (like reading the album cover) to know that it's not Dave Grohl on drums. Thumbs up for being ignorant and cranking out bad content!!!! :)

Hey man, thanks for the comment. I know it probably wasn't meant to be constructive, but still, I just wanted to respond and say that if you or anyone are going into a *First Reaction* video, looking for an in-depth review or to be educated about an album, I think you're misunderstanding the purpose of the video. When we recorded this, neither of us had heard the album before and basically knew nothing about it - and that was the point; the point was to go in blind so the audience could get our genuine, unbiased impressions of what we were hearing, and so our analysis would be mostly from a compositional and musical standpoint. So I apologize if we got details such as like band members, dates etc., but that wasn't the purpose of this video or our other first reactions. They aren't meant to be informative reviews, but raw reactions basically assuming we know nothing apart from music theory and from listening to other artists. We assume fans of whatever album we are *First Reacting* to will be more knowledgeable than us anyway. So, I'm sorry you were irritated by inaccuracies in this video, and to be fair we definitely could have still researched that sort of thing before recording. However, since recording this video we are much bigger fans of Bleach today and know a lot more about the circumstances of the album's recording and history now (as we tend to dive into that stuff after we actually like an album and not typically beforehand). That being said though, your sentiment is partially why we are switching to making different content these days, more focused on in-depth review and analysis instead of first reactions. Hope you have a great day dude.
