Sad that building shaped like an egg is demolished. It is the tallest from around 2010 to 2014. Really a unique skyscraper.

Unique but, in the end, not very aesthetically pleasing. I built it back when Creative mode didn't exist yet and placing every piece of cobblestone dozens of blocks from the ground was a potentially life-threatening task, so making something impressive wasn't really an option. Plus, I like having a little park there more.

@@BlipNoir True. Switching out a massive brutalist monstrosity for a little park. I still kept some ugly but unique buildings from the early days of VladenVille though, such as the VladenVille Microsoft building(Possibly built march/april 2022). Its quiet ugly as the facade is really messed up.

I'd love to check your Dubai-inspired city out if you end up posting it anywhere. And no, I've never really considered mods because Newisle has been shared with the community for such a long time. People use all sorts of mods when playing and as a content creator you can't tailor to them all. That's why I've always kept the vanilla version of the game in mind when building: to make sure everyone has the same gameplay experience regardless of whether or not they use mods.

So my city, VladenVille(also on the Planet Minecraft forum), is inspired by east asia. It started out as having no style but now I would say the real life city that provided the most influence is Shanghai, which is where I grew up. Currently, the oldest street in the city, turtle street, and another older street, high street(Those 2 streets are built in VladenVille's early days in 2022 Janurary), are only 3 blocks wide. I want to turn Turtle Street into a pedestrian zone, but since it's a vital link in VladenVille's city gird, it'll turn a lot of other streets into dead ends, which I didn't want to.

I get you. It's hard to change around something from the early days of the map without it affecting other areas. That's where Amulet Editor has helped me a lot because, for instance, when I needed to move an entire skyscraper over a couple blocks to widen a street or sidewalk, it allowed me to do that with ease. It just sucks when you interconnectivity to deal with, like underground structures. That's when you really need to ask yourself "Is this change I'm planning worth it?"

@@BlipNoir Yeah I understands about the interconnectivity. Not trying to move anything because all the buildings on the side of the road are historical and I want keep them where they're. Also because of how dense central VladenVille is. I already kinda solved the situation by building a tunnel under historical central VladenVille. I probebly won't do anything to turtle street but high street might get widened soon. I guess having some extremely narrow streets in some areas make sense because that's how it's like in shanghai

You know, speaking of valid criticisms like you were at the start of this video, I always thought the old houses along w newer builds in the suburbs of newisle were a bit jarring, but recently I think that just makes me love them now, you can see how Ur (or for telling a story, the city's) building ability has improved over the years and just adds that bit more personality to the map rather than all samey buildings, I like that all the buildings are different they really do add to it! So I suppose my point is that criticisms, although they appear valid at the time, can become strengths from different perspectives, so for your own cities definitely keep that in mind

I think even that one commenter's criticism was valid and everyone's allowed to have their own take on things. But much like real buildings, you're right, sometimes they just grow on you over time as trends change. It might be that you're not a fan of something one day and look around a few years later at a neighbourhood with lots of new development and have a completely different opinion. I have a certain nostalgia for old builds even if they're objectively not up to the standards of modern day Minecraft techniques because, once upon a time, they 'were' good because the techniques or material available at the time were more limiting for players.

Thanks a ton for the support! Be sure to grab the free update with new interiors in a couple dozen buildings and a new Halcyon Tower. It should be out on the Marketplace within the next week or two as long as Mojang clears it from their queue soon!

Welcome to my brand new video series about how to build a Minecraft city! I plan on releasing new episodes regularly, taking you through the methods I use to build the City of Newisle and the world around it. Why did you fill the buildings with sand if in previous versions they had interiors?

To optimize the performance of the map. The downtowns of each of those cities are frame rate killers on devices with lower specs and even on my own laptop. Interiors and entities were the main cause of the awful performance, so I removed the interiors in all buildings above 5 stories, as well as things like products on the shelves of each store, in v1.3. This has significantly improved performance for all players and most of the 750+ buildings across the map are still fully furnished, including every town outside of Newisle and Rockwood. That said, I've released an update for those that play on Java Edition that want the interiors back (a lot of fans said they did) and the people that bought the map on the Marketplace will get access to that update shortly, too.

@@corywilson4840 The update should be out this month as long as Mojang doesn't find some reason to not let it through QA. It's with them right now, so I have my fingers and toes crossed all is good to go. Once the update is available on the Marketplace players will get a prompt when they log on. Anyone with the old optimized version of the map can decline it and keep playing that if they wish but the addition of the interiors (plus a brand new Halcyon Tower complex) shouldn't have a negative impact on the gameplay. On the contrary, it should breathe a lot of new life into downtown Newisle and Rockwood.
