I don’t think they used this blade style in the ‘80s. This unit is probably from the ‘70s.

I was searching the web to see if my fan had any history, and was elated to see you have the exact same fan as mine. As you know the joy of collecting, it was almost as exciting, just to see you have this fan too. Of many now obscure items in the world who would have thought some else had a vintage box fan and on KZbin. Certainly a testimony to quality engineering of days gone by. Watching your fan run was as pleasing as a screen saver of a crackling fire. Thanks for the posting.

I love watching these metal blade box fan videos he don't put metal blades on anything anymore as far as box fans go the cheap plastic propellers are all new box fans they don't do anything but make noise and throw off very little air unless you want to buy an air circulators those come with metal blades and they do throw off a good amount of air like they should and you're paying for the quality of the fan!!!!!!

that’s not a solid state control. It’s a dimmer. you can tell because it starts on low and goes to high. also says for incandescent lights only. originals tend to be quieter on solid state, dimmers are considerably harder on a fan, and subsequently louder. newer variac ones iirc are sorta similar to variable speed but have poor dc filtering. older dimmers are rheostats that add resistance, also not great for fans. cool dimmer though. i’d probably buy a leviton or cooper solid state control and swap it out and keep the old knob and plate.

Interesting to see another "St. Regis" fan, albeit one that looks quite different the one I have (a 240v model as I live in the UK). I have a 9" model in a completely different colour scheme which I suspect is a very late model from the mid-1990's. The plastic is very flimsy and feels more like a modern fan compared to the tough plastics used in 1980's Taiwanese fans, and it has grey blades and a white grille presumably in an attempt to look more modern. The fan has no labels to identify it as a Kuo Horng, which is unusual - despite this "St Regis" is written in exactly the same font and it features the signature K.H "piano key" buttons, so it must have originated from the same factory.
