With engine failure in a twin , 1st on the checklist is pushing power, props, and mixture forward (or as far as over-boost and directional control will permit) then the other items in that emergency checklist follow. Feathering is essential but first one needs to get sufficient power, retract gear and flaps, identify which is the impaired engine (dead foot dead engine) and then get the plane stabilized and ready for landing. If the power levels were loose it should have been noted on checklist and/or engine run up. Checklists should be used but they can become so routine that items are glossed over without thinking about them. More than checklists is the thinking of the essential elements such as loose controls, a seat that is not secure, a tire that suddenly goes flat., forgetting to put on the mags or move the fuel tank levers forward, or something snagging the fuel levers and pulling them into the off position.

So true, that is way the run ups are so important, yes you are checking the systems but you will also see loose power levers, or even have a chance to adjust the friction locks.

Checklists are not tedious; they exist for a good reason. I always stop co-pilots who grab the list but don't read it. The trend is to do it by memory, which can be risky.
@CuriousPilot90

Very true, I always have the checklist out to run through, even though it can be done by memory. Early on in military flying training you would learn and be tested on carrying out checklists from memory, it's very different when you have people in the back that you are responsible for.

@@CuriousPilot90 Our memory may betray us one day. Many times when I ask for the checklist and they don't really read it, I hear 'Landing Checklist' items on the 'After Takeoff' checklist and vice versa

I lived next to a retired WW2/Korean/Vietnam war fighter pilot and became a commercial pilot (he knows flying). Our backyards had a view of incoming planes...We would sit outside enjoying a nice drink and he told me....there are two times a plane is vulnerable, take offs and landings....other then that, sit back relax and enjoy the flight`~RIP Sir, you were a wealth of knowledge, and a humble man~

6/21/24: this just came into my feed. and just subscribed. thanks for the insights into turbulence. I also hate that feeling. I find that I am most at peace with turbulence if the pilot announces the possibility of it. If not, then I hate it. your video was helpful. keep posting other videos on this same subject. I'd like to know from a pilot's perspectives, what keeps a plane in the air...

Very helpful video! Just wondering about the part where you’re put into one of the three types (the rotary fast jet and multi engine) and how that works? Do you yourself say what you prefer or do they choose for you?

He would just get in and go. Ok if you're on your own, only your own life is at risk, but carrying passengers! Is this a thing for private or chartered planes? Are the pilots not held to the same standards as those on larger airlines? Who is there to make sure these rules are being enforced? It's an awful way to go.

Welcome back - your videos were missed! It's rather inconvenient that you're not independently wealthy and have absolutely nothing better to do than make videos for us! Adulting is such a bummer. As always, it's a refreshingly fresh incident (by which I mean it's not an overly-publicized, everyone-has-made-a-video-about-it type of incident), & informative & interesting, without being dramatic. With regard to the *solicited* feedback concerning the new editor: I appreciated reverting back to using white & black (most of the time) for the text, and how the parts of the plane that were impacted were outlined in red, but the multiple transition effects, small size of the text, and the short amt of time that the text was stationary & readable at times, kinda detracted from the video bc things were fading, sliding, typewriting, etc, in and out, from all sides, so it was hard to keep up sometimes. Your videos already stand out for their content & quality - don't feel like you need to make them flashy - we're not bored!

@@CuriousPilot90I almost forgot: I have 2 "marketing" (for lack of a better word) ideas, and I think one is really stellar. 1) this isn't the stellar one. Your logo is awesome, but it doesn't actually provide your name. If I search for CP, I get an endless list of CPR videos. When searching for "curious pilot," though, as soon as I hit the "i" in "pilot", your channel was #3 in the results. So, you should include "curious pilot" at some point, and 2) this is the hold-onto-your-seat, gonna-blow-your-mind idea: tie in an animal rescue, preferably one for puppies. Your viewership would increase tenfold, overnight, if there's a remote chance a puppy is somehow involved. Maybe the pilot's wife's best friend's uncle's fishing buddy's Facebook friend rescued a dog - just mention that, show a picture of a puppy, and you should be golden! Just sayin'...

The whole country of Pakistan is being run in this way. Corruption, Bribery, Nepotism, disregard for law, no practical concept of rule of law, mafia in all departments be it agriculture or traffic and the list goes on. What you see in this video is the state that Pakistan has been brought into by the blessings of the corrupt politicians and the army generals. Anyone that tries to resist gets abducted and disappears or killed, just look at the case of Arshad Sharif. People are thrown into jail on fake cases or even no cases. Even the supreme court is not able to function. Just look at what the army generals did to Imran Khan, the former PM of this country.
