I love your content. I have a 59 Chevy project truck and all this info is gold. Question for you: I have a DBW 2004 LS engine on a stand. Would anything different need to be done to the tune to get it to work with a carb setup? I watched a video from another guy on how he tunes a DBC PCM, but folks in the comments were saying they could not get it to work with a DBW PCM.
@rust_hoarder_garageКүн бұрын
Hi, since that was my first try and that was a P01 DBC pcm I have not tried it with a DBW P59 pcm. I can't see why it would be any different, but I would have to try it. The tune to go to carb I made was mostly turning off a lot of DTCs, zeroing out some spark advance and retard tables, and setting up the main spark table. Also in this video I was running a linear timing table with no MAP sensor correction, which is like having no vacuum advance. Next one I test I want to hook up the MAP sensor and run a more stock like timing table which should be more efficient. The throttle response really seemed snappy even without the MAP, but it should be even better for MPG with the MAP hooked up. Thanks for watching!

Great video, Rust! We're proud to offer budget-friendly gauges for any project, and the 55-59 is definitely one of our favorites. We'd love to share your video with our customers-would that be okay? We also have life time warranty on all of our products. Contact us for any questions.
@rust_hoarder_garageКүн бұрын
Sure, you can share it, want to sponser me? LOL! Lots of builds coming up that will need gauges. Feel free to share the video and hopefully you watched it, it is an honest first time install video so not a commercial. I have a 72 Nova build coming up if you want a full detailed install video with an LS engine I can do that no problem. So far no issues with the 56 dash other than the one time that the tach was reading low, it now seems to be working fine. Speedometer will be tested once the weather warms up, the truck now runs and drives and will be done shortly. I would do two things different for improvements. 1. The backlighting dims very little with the headlights on and does not dim with the rheostat headlight dimmer, I understand that may be because of the LED driver design. 2. I would make the backlight have multiple colors in the one unit rather than having to buy a different gauge set to change colors. I bought purple for this build, but if I wanted to change dash color the purple would not be wanted anymore. Thanks for watching!

I hate it when i spend a lot of money on a part because i think it will be a lot better than the cheap Chinese version or something i can make myself. Ive had that happen a lot. If i was you, i would send them a link to this video to show how poorly it fits. If they're smart, they make it right for you. No company wants to lose sales due to poor publicity. Im sure everyone watching this, myself included is not going to buy carpets, and possible other parts from them if they dont give you a refund or give you a capet that does fit.

I sent them pictures, but I am sure they are closed for the weekend. Hoping to get a response tomorrow. They are an American company and have been around a long time, so I am hoping they will make it right. Others have said their carpet from them fit good, so not sure why mine is so bad. If I keep it I will just trim it down and make some door sills, but I could of done that with a $50 universal carpet.

On your ls swap, if you run the clutch activation wire to pcm #17 on the green connector, it will tell the computer that a/c has been commanded. To enable this function, select Analog Cycling for ac type. For those wanting to use an electric fan, #43 green is a triggered ground.
@rust_hoarder_garage7 күн бұрын
For this swap I am not using the P59 PCM, I have a P01 so I am using red 17 , 43, and 55 for the PCM controls. I just didn't make the video yet going over it, this video was for people not using PCM control. The P01 video will be out shortly, the P59 setup is different depending on application, I will eventually do A/C with one of those. From what I have read certain service number P59s need mods to use the Analog function. Thanks for watching!

I had the same situation happen to me, check the fitting on the HF vacuum pump and the seals in the end of your hoses. I have the same gauges, can tap and pump as you. my issue was the vacuum pump fitting leaking. had to tighten the hose on with pliers to make a good enough seal not to leak back vacuum when testing. after relacing with Amazon hose end seals, never happened again. Aftermarket systems usually take 18-21 oz of freon, like said in another comment, depending on hose length etc
@rust_hoarder_garage10 күн бұрын
I am going to look into better quality stuff as far as the gauges and pump for sure, but the pump should be isolated from the system with the manifold valves closed. It could be the cheap connecting point adapters or leaky Schraeder valves, not sure. Right now I have two cans in the system, low pressure was getting all the way down to 10-15 pounds, but I think it is too cold to really get it set up correctly. I will recheck pressures and vent temps once the weather warms up, but it will be over a month until that happens.

@BHR196710 күн бұрын
Great job and I feel your pain, I do a lot of after market AC with different vendors products, after one 1 hour of vacuum, my rule of thumb is start at 1 pound of freon and add 2 oz of PAD oil with dye on the high side. Most aftermarket AC compressors have oil all ready installed, if your not sure you can remove the fittings and dump the oil and measure the volume. I keep a chart on my AC machine that refers to ambient temp versus high and low side pressure but mostly work up my freon until I am happy with the temp out of the vents. Each system is different IE hose length, condenser and evaporator volumes. I keep a vintage air install manual on my bench top and refer back to their install procedures. Over the years the only issue I had is bad pressure sensors, good air flow over the condenser, and electric fan volumes you need outside air volume to create good cooling of the freon that's the science part of being a tech.
@rust_hoarder_garage10 күн бұрын
Thanks, I agree on referring to the temp charts, once the weather warms up I want to check pressures and vent temp before adding more refrigerant. I saw -10 F degrees on the way to work this morning so may be awhile! Thanks for watching 👍

@rust_hoarder_garage11 күн бұрын
Have to have one, either part of the condenser or plumbed on separately. I like this one, cleaner packaging. Thanks for watching 👍
@Frank-ev6fg11 күн бұрын
Not sure what you’re calling a dryer on the side of the condenser is a dryer. A dryer , or acummulator , works like a oil filter. And is normally replaceable. And holds excess oil I think . I could be wrong . That maybe some kind of a baffle ?
@rust_hoarder_garage11 күн бұрын
The cylinder on my condenser is a receiver / dryer, it stores extra liquid refrigerant and also has a replaceable desiccant pack that absorbs moisture. Since this is a TXV system it is on the high pressure side. Pretty cool design, there is a removable plug on the bottom so the desiccant pack can be dropped out and replaced. Accumulator works similar but stores vapor and is on the low side of a fixed orifice type system.

Thanks, I had a pretty big tip on there, problem I had was heat control. Brother, I was a store manager from 2006 to 2008 at Advance Auto parts. 1 in 3 a/c compressors are defective right off the shelf. They don't test every single one during remanufacture. Or manufacture lol!!! I always told everyone to buy all warranty parts like the orifice tube and dryer because of it. So many said no and I hated to turn the warranty down.

That is scary, but I am not surprised. Sometimes I think people wonder why I have a "if it isn't broke don't fix it" mentality, but this is why I do not normally install a new part to replace a good used part.
