I am surprised it has taking me 3 years to hear about this event. I was on the original design team for the Thunder Mustang. I haven’t watched video 4 yet. 1st of all Great Job dealing with the emergency. I do recall the reason we didn’t use an electric hydraulic pump on the original prototypes/kits was because it was challenging to find a pump with adequate capacity that wouldn’t over stress the electrical systems, due to size and weight of the gear on the Thunder Mustang. Of course with the Turbine, It likely made sense or required them to use an electric pump. The 28volt system likely would have helped (I recall the originals had 😊a 12/14 volt system) with providing enough power to the pump.

why fly the thing in the heat of the day when it's thermic and gusty? maybe fly at 6am in calm air and zero wind, just a guess on my part

Seems like a bad idea to have this engine in a plane, so many mods to get it to work. I see the latest is a Hub problem killing a builder of the planes.

I always felt that the hyd. pump having to on all the time was something to be concerned about. No matter what type of pump I had in it I would want to be able to turn it off and the gear/doors stay up...

Your long nose Thunder Mustang does not burn gas. It burns JetA. Say so. Or fuel - but not gas ! As a test pilot you are doing great !.

the builder of this plane just died in one he was test flying due to an engine over speed / runaway propeller problem where the prop hub disintegrated and the propeller blades flew off... you may find this interesting: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qJ_MiJaolLV0fqM&ab_channel=blancolirio

As a pilot who had an engine out on base to final, it’s amazing how fast stuff happens, watching you reinforces “fly the plane”. You knew it wasn’t worth trouble shooting and flew the airplane! Best advice I ever got pounded into my head!

Excellent work here, sir. I stumbled across your videos and spent three hours last night viewing with rapt attention. The pace is fast, but you kept me engaged the entire time. I have the flying skills, but not the mechanical nor systems knowledge you have, so I’m learning the entire time. Love the family shots too!

Great job! I wish I could afford to fly. Helicopters have always had a draw for me but fixed wing would be very acceptable as well.

Why would you worry about the airspace around KBMT? It's an old TRSA so no radio or restrictions to it. All you have is the Class D 5nm miles around the airfield. You would think someone flying this complex of an aircraft would know this.

A post-crash assessment of the AP damage and the remedies performed to get the airplane in the air again would be very interesting.

Orange County, TX - that's my local airport. By the way....you speak of an "unfriendly airport" - after having contacted them and imperiously ordered them to clear traffic off the runway with no explanation whatsoever. All you had to do was declare the emergency when you were first aware that things were going wonky and you would have received all the "friendliness" and accommodation they could have provided. You set an unfortunate example for other, less experienced pilots when you equivocate and rationalize reluctance to make an emergency call that may influence them into being reluctant to call an emergency until it's too late. Not everyone has your level of skill, training and experience.

These planes all seem to crash. Engine failures, prop failures, electrical failures.....give it up already. The owner of the company got himself un-alived.
