It's ironic that a president from one of America's poorest states signed the agreement to make those states even poorer. That president was President Clinton, the former governor of Arkansas. He was the President during NAFTA.

OooWee,. That’s a mighty Fine back story for this “moon shiner” I’ve been a follower of the Prophet Joseph Smith all my life. This gentleman, ‘Major Lewis Redmond, lived a life like the Prophet Joseph did. Only difference was , his “moon shine” was mormonism, & the BoM! (that’s book of mormon) The US Gov’t as Well as all the other whisky moonshine drinking SOB’s & good ole Christian preachers, All had 1 thing in common. They HATED the Mormon prophet, as well as his version of ‘moonshine’, The BoM. The truth that even parallels the Bible, Only a lot TRUER. Thx for ur story of ‘Major Thomas’,.. I truly loved it! 🙏🇺🇸🔔🦅👍👊👏💪

OK goody goody! *sits and listens* Holy Crap! Trenny missing I believe one of 2 things either she got lost, hurt and died out there with her scent being buried by the weather OR she made it to that Hwy and got in with someone who took her somewhere else for good or bad we will never know. That couple wouldn't have left those kids - something bad happened! Why go to the store that late? Times were different in the 70's people trusted & left kids to just 'run a little errand'. Someone had to have carjacked them & got rid of them. I believe that little boy was probably murdered by his mother either on purpose or accidentally - she hid his body in the 11 hrs she didn't report it! I know she won't be charged because they can't prove anything happened to him - poor baby! Thanks JD that was great

*sits and waits for story* An Appalacian hit man? Now that's a novel idea I'd have never thought about! That was a fantastic story told from Tom's point of view and it was chilling and haunting! Wow! That was fantastic, JD! Thank you so much! OH and since I didn't see the books at the local library (I'm in Memphis TN) I'm bringing the titles to the Spring meeting where we can petition to get books into the system. OMG! I think they would be great to pass around!

I don't know about anyone else but I just get so excited when the next story is ready to begin! I haven't gotten so thrilled about just sitting down to listen to someone telling me stories about anyone or anything! So now it is Arnett Booth, goody! Holy Crap! Now that old Dr. had a true will to live! ALL of that over a little bit of money. Arnett bit the hand that fed him & he got what he deserved! That was great JD!

Christmas morning, I am alone. I did have my children here last night. My daughters did the cooking thank God they were able to help because I am 76 years old and a very healthy woman. But our church group got together and decided to have rent fun zone,Yep, I rollerskating was really enjoying myself till the end and I had to come off but we were taking pictures on our skates, and I slipped and fell. Yep I fractured, my ankle, they say it’s broke and I have to see another doctor, but it’s all intake. So as long as I stay in my boot, I won’t have to have surgery. It’s going to heal, so God has been good to me and I take this as a lesson in God‘s trying to get my attention for some reason. Ran across your stories. Absolutely love them, and I wish God’s blessing on you and your family. Hope to hear more stories from you.

Wow! I don't know how to feel about poor Champ! I do so understand his great need for vengeance after what had happened to his family. The times back then were very different and it's not easy getting an outlaw nor of even having a fair hearing about anything including the robbing of the hogs, to the murder of his son, to the violition of his wife & daughter who, back then, were nothing more pets or animals. I cheer him on one hand and mourn the loss of those he killed! See! This is the wonder of being such a great Storyteller - thanks JD

What an amazing story of a man, his life and a decent lawman! I'm one of the few that if that had happened to my family I would have done the same thing he did! I suppose there are worst things than having the devil after you - like having Devil John after you! Thank you JD for the story! I'm still going through as many of these as I can in the next couple of hours and days! Again, You are a great story teller!

I am loving all of these stories and wish I could afford to get the 2 books just to read them all! I know that if they really want to know who the girl is that is buried in the grave, they just need to dig her up get some DNA and match it to one of the missing or the family on the mountains who may have a missing loved one! I look forward to listening to each and every one of these stories - you have an amazing gift of storytelling, and I love a good story!

Hadnt checked in last month or so Appalachian Storyteller. But sawthis video. Thought to send you a BLESSED MERRY CHRISTMAS. From Cold ,snowy N.Michigan. Antrim County. Your fan who told you my parents from Clay County Kentucky, 1900s. Our CHRISTMAS ' in Antrim County, Depression/WW2 era were the big meals, cutting a tree from the woods night before. Milk the cows. Gifts were typically mittens or scarves Ma knitted. Maybe a peppermint stick. If the town store got a shipment in? Obe orange for each of us 7 kids. And my fatherwould make small wood toys for youngest kids. Poor? Maybe. But we didnt know it. A warm house, woodstoves. Good food n LOVE. Signed ArthurStewart.😊❤

This came up on my KZbin feed, and it’s my kind of material and seems pretty interesting so far, but I call bullsh*t on the narrator’s accent-about 10 seconds in. I could be wrong, and if so, I apologize to the above mentioned individual-the script is great and the guy’s doing a good job I think for sure. But I’m on the fence as a Southerner my whole life with, I’ve been told, is extremely strong and sprinkled generously with idioms that people tell me they have absolutely no clue what they mean…At which point I realize that no, everyone doesn’t say this, it’s yet another Southern thing and I’m a hick. Also: I am qualified to make this comment and assessment because I have ancestry and some kin from Appalachia! Lol. I mean, based on 23&Me’s take they were Roma (aka the derogatory term I don’t condone saying passively: “Gypsies”) or Travelin’ Folk who were from across the opposite side of the globe, but whatever. An Ozark Mountain hillbilly can share his blood with a flat hillbilly!

Netflix! Where are your movie producers? Scott Frank, Steven Soderbergh, Casey Silver, Jessica Levin, Michael Malone where are you? This would be a fabulous movie. I’m from this area and have always found their lives and story so incredible. Godless was an awesome movie for so many reasons but (for me) because of the strong women characters…grab Merritt Wever for starts and get movin! 🎥👏🏻
