I’ve only played mother 3 because I loved the pixel art and the story was kinda dark and really memorable. I have no interest in playing earthbound or mother 1 because the stories are much more goofy

I'm the one who played Mother 3 first. And completed it 3 times, before the first and only time I played Mother 2. Never played original Mother 1 because I know it will suck and right now waiting for Mother Encore to be finished to get a normal experience, not the "look at NES graphics while grinding the hell out and experiencing that old game design"

To be fair, Earthbound is the most accessible, Mother 3 is in Japan release purgatory and Mother 1 is a product of it's time, i don't imagine it would look very appealing as your first game in the series in comparison to Earthbound, whose sprite work and bright colors still hold up today

I literally played Earthbound first because of the SNES NSO, I wanted to try something new, and fell in love with the game, and the series as a whole.

Maybe if the production had gone better, they could've polished the look a lot more and made it look more appealing. The trailer is still just a beta after all. N64 games just don't age very well in general. While the actual mother 3 still looks great today.

Considering your likely mostly English audience, I'd assume there'd be some undercoverage bias in the survey. I'd guess that more Japanese people would play M1 or M3 first because they were initially released there on time/in general!

Not me, but someone I know did 1, 3, 2. Then I made my gf at the time do 3, 1, 2 because I thought it would be funny. My best friend didn’t play them until the Wii U release and did 1, 2, 3. I did what I thought was the most common way 2, 1, 3. I guess I was wrong though.

As a now absolutely huge Mother fan, I can’t lie - it took me a minute to get into EarthBound. I started with peak (also known as Mother 3 in Japan), and EarthBound has a completely different tone, and I can’t say the story is nearly as gripping (though it has so much else going for it). But I love it just as much as Mother 3 these days, and part of me wishes I played the games in order. On the flip side though, if it wasn’t for me dipping my toes in Mother 3, I don’t think I would have ever discovered my love for the rest of the series. So I’m thankful I did end up skipping to the third game first ^^

I went back to the community tab to look at my answer and I put mother 3 which is wrong but cause I played mother 1 first but I suppose a said mother 3 cause that’s the first one I REALLY played

Should I play earthbound snes first or mother 3 for the gba?

I played Mother 3 first because growing up I only had a semi-decent phone capable of ONLY running GBA emulators (tried a SNES emulator once and the thing almost exploded), I was looking for game recommendations and Mother 3 came fairly often, so I tried it and beat it in like a week. I've been a fan since.

Remember us 18 -24 percent probably grew up playing smash bros brawl and that’s where the path that most of us had to to take to get in search for Earthbound

I thought it might've been both that had to be changed for Mother 3 because of the Pig Masks.

The reason I started with mother 3 is that it was my first ever JRPG and I was aware of the mother series and I wanted to start with the best mother game so that I have a reason to drop the series if I didn't like it
