This is another reason why I like Rings of Power over House of the Dragon, it doesn't need sex to advance the story, but base it on the themes as it's most crucial part of it's story. And I like that. A family can enjoy Rings of Power, compared to the other series. And sometimes, you just want to watch a chill movie/series, which I also do for the movies.

I was thinking as well during the scene between Celebrimbor and Sauron how it mirrors Lucifer´s wish to hold control over creation, placing himself as the master, and in the end becoming prisoner of such desires. (what contrast to Gandalf, who at the start of this season believes he is meant to "master" the Secret Fire, only to be taught/reminded that one can only be its servant). Also, love that we see at the end Galadriel in a simple white dress, marking her first steps into becoming the White Lady of Lotlorien.

Thank you, Reverend, for giving such a positive treating of a show, that often is met with a lot of negativity. And isn't Celebrimbors words in ep. 7, which Galadriel reminds about in this 8th season, clearly alluding on the Prologue of John: "And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not" - John 1:5

Thank you so much for giving us a biblical perspective of this story. Your videos on this show are welcomed sermons... keep it up Father Roderick.

The moment when Celebrimbor cuts his thumb, sacrificing his craftsmanship, to escape both the physical and mental shackles that held him prisoner- plus, his speech to Galadriel was just so powerful. And Tolkien actually does show compassion towards the orcs when in The Silmarillion he talks about their corruption through Morgoth, and it was great this show addresses it.

Great analysis, Father.

Arondir's will to sacrifice comes from a place of loss of hope in my opinion. He needs to find hope to stay in the fight. (And that is all I will say, so not to spoil anyone who has not seen the season finale)

Did they really call it "Secret Fire?" It must be something Amazon created because they can't use the words in the Silmarillion: The Flame Imperishable. That is supposed to be part of Eru. It gives sentient life. In the books, it is never used in the way TRoP is using it. Also, only for TV would you give the Stranger a choice. Those trees are not going anywhere. The Stranger can go and save Nori and Poppy and then all three of them can hunt for the staff. Why is Tom Bombadil testing the Stranger as Satan would?
@mathijsbreedveld49342 ай бұрын
Seems the me Tom is teaching him the right way is saving his friends. He can give life or death to people with his choices because he is powerful.
@massir77692 ай бұрын
It's referred to the secret fire in the Lord of the rings fotr when Gandalf is fighting the balrog lol.
@FatherRoderick2 ай бұрын
Maybe it’s because it’s not the Stranger who needs to ponder that question, but us 😄
@FatherRoderick2 ай бұрын
I heard they negotiated certain words from the Silmarillion with the Tolkien Estate individually. Like the name ‘Annatar’.
@Enerdhil2 ай бұрын
@@FatherRoderick It was obviously a false choice. Tom lied to the Stranger by telling him that he had to make a do-or-die choice. By leading him to that dry valley with dead trees and telling him that his staff was somewhere out there, Tom lied. So Tom Bombadil tried to deceive Gandalf - totally out of character.

@@FatherRoderick that’s fantastic, I wish these festivals were more common globally, not to call nerds/geeks a minority but they are very looked down on by most people who aren’t them. I think the judging most commonly stems from misunderstanding or inability of people to understand other people might have interests outside of lame

Agree that the Acolyte introduced some interesting ideas, and Quimir was the breakout character, largely due to Manny Jacinto's performance, but the writing failed to develop or resolve these ideas in a satisfying way. That is the fault of the writers and showrunners. There are often some unresolved threads at the end of a series, but Osha and Mae's motivations and character arcs were inconsistent during THIS season, and it made it hard to empathize and root for them. Sol and Torbin acted out of fear impulse and misunderstanding, but they were torn by guilt when they realized the consequences of their actions. Sol raises Osha who was left homeless by his actions. Mae and Osha on the other hand never even care about the circumstances around Brendok, they just want to kill the Jedi with no remorse, this is very sith like, but we should not see them as heroes. When Anakin fell to the darkside it was seen as a great tragedy. We were not meant to root for Palpatine. I feel that this moral relativism is what turned a lot of people off the show.

Very glad you are doing these breakdowns to each ep, this season simply gets better and better! Ep2 touched upon some very interesting themes, art vs artist (are you aware of the concept of "death of the artist" in literature? when you do look at a work simply for what it is), responsibilities concerning your friends and family, guilt and atonement, etc. Sauron playing upon Celebrimbor´s ego and fears of an artist- never wanted to get my hands more on Sauron than in that moment.
