Just another “new cartridge” is spot on! Who needs it? 90% of the folks buying high-powered rifles don’t know how to shoot worth a damn. Prove me wrong…. When is the last time anyone employed proper form using any of the four positions for rifle marksmanship? (Standing, prone, sitting, or kneeling). We should have nationwide requirements in place for “hunters” desiring to hunt big game (antelope and larger) with a rifle; otherwise, is disrespectful to the wildlife that we all share an interest in. I’m a lifetime member of the NRA, an NRA-certified Big Bore instructor, a former Army competition shooter, and a rifle, bow, and shotgun hunter all over the USA for the last 65 years of my life. We need more focus on accuracy and marksmanship, and not so much on “splitting hairs” with the very minor differences, cartridge to cartridge.

steel case, very diffucult to make the case, form the case and reload the case. premium brass case makers wont be making it. so this wont take hold in the custom rifle/ammo world. i think it will be gone in less then 5 years. heard of the sig .277 fury?

Hopefully DOGE will finally put an end to this bad idea for our military. And as far as use as a civilian cartridge it is truly pointless.

My first hunting rifle is a M700 Classic .280 REM. My Dad surprised me with it for Christmas in 1997. Been using it ever since. Shoots sub MOA. It really likes Hornady 139gr. Interlocks. Many deer took with it.

How does it not blowout primers. If you over pressure a handload its easy to blow them out. Does it use different primers!?

Some firearms can survive a couple proof loads but many will not survive a steady diet of high pressure proof loads that are above the SAMMI spec for the round it was made for.

Couple things I thought about the last couple days… Instead of bringing forth a “new cartridge” why not just load up existing cartridges with this case and improve their performance? We already know proof rounds run at double the pressure of SAMMI standards. I’m all for advancement, but if they were gonna do this, why not use a .300 RCM case dimension? It would be a true short action, saving even more over all gun length, and run even hotter. This steel case technology could make the .338 Federal extremely interesting and I would like to see it in the 6.5 PRC and 7mm-08. It just seems like they could have captured a much greater share of the market if they introduced this as an upgrade to cartridges we already have. If modern actions can really withstand 120k psi, seems like a no brainer.

I think we may have reached the maximum performance out of a traditional cartridge until there's a quantum leap in propellant. This is the second video I watched and this cartridge is extremely impressive out of short barrels. Most hunters will never burn out a barrel.

Very interesting concept of higher velocities through metallurgy. Always looking for the pros and cons, I wonder what happens when the amateur hand loader decides to go cheap and tries to make the case from an existent brass case. (I really don't wonder...I know what will happen). Obviously, the engineers and lawyers from Federal have taken this into consideration prior to releasing the cartridge, as well as the other rifle manufacturers that are chambering for it. Great content. I listened to then Backcountry podcast before watching the KZbin video. Ron & Joseph are a great combination!
