Thanks fot great comparison. I agree with u that it hard to see benefit of 3d except nice mktg that icom does not have. Frankly, I don't see PORTABLE (I mean backpack, not rv) use for for this size rig (I compare it to ft817, kx2, x6100 all with built-in batteries and option hf vs atu). But I'm not vhf guy so... Cat Bluetooth is however important to me (x6100 has it, for others tiny dongles exist). People say that WiFi of ic705 makes it great remote rx/trx.... Anyway, great post. TU

I had a 3600 amp hour battery backup system in my shop catch fire because of a faulty BMS on August 2nd. It did an estimated $100,000 damage. There was considerable smoke and water damage. I will rebuild, but the new system will be the 18Kpv with the exterior rated batteries placed in a fireproof shed away from my home. It will have 205F thermally activated water sprinklers within the compartment. I have built many LiFeP04 battery powered systems since 2017. A name brand 300 amp hour battery shorted out internally despite the BMS and set the whole rack on fire. I almost lost my home because of one defective battery. The UL approval on the EG4 components means a great deal to me now.

The yaesu ftdx101 has a cheap a/d - converter, that "sherwood" list doesn't cover that disadvantage and so that ftdx101 beeing on top of that sherwood list is meaningless. the Icom IC-7300 is already better than the ftdx101, because the 7300 has an industrial grade a/d - converter, these new yaesus will never sound that good. i guess the new Icom IC-7760 will have one on top of the the 7300, that will be the best (newly available) receiver, i would be suprized if it isn't. What i miss in the 7300 is a 4KHz wide SSB speech TX / RX from like 10Hz till 4000Hz, 4KHz TX / RX width sounds just perfect to my SSB speech hearing and 4KHz isn't far to wide either, would be awesome if the 7760 had that 4KHz wide SSB speech TX / RX. add a XLR socket to the back of the control unit of the 7760 and a 48Volt powersupply into that XLR socket for a large diaphragm condenser studio mic, that would be a great combination to fill that 4KHz width nicely. these large amateurradio factories make some great radios but all their microphones always have a very low audioquality. I read Icom has put a 450Wattt class LDMOS into that new 7760, thing is supposed to make 200Watt HF out full duty cycle at 25°C (77°F) room temperatur⚡💪, that is a witness to a comparbly high quality design & realisation (if it doesn't fail). Why don't these HF amateur base radios ever have bluetoooth connectivity🤨?? useing these HF radios (sometimes) with a bluetooth headset🦻would be so convenient to do chores in the house and be free to operate HF at same time 👍. the head-unit should connect to the radio wireless too, to place the radio in a room that is dustfree while having the head-unit on the desk in another room. another thing, these are radios for thousands of u.s. $ or €, they should have a higher quality case than that thin metall sheet that bends when putting a finger on top of it, even the $10000 u.s. Icom IC-7800 has a cheap case like that (i had one long time ago when it was all new). the cases of the old Icom radios like the ic-735 or IC-765 (which has a PHENOMENALLY detailed good sounding receiver) were already better than that. will the 7760 be worth the upgrade from a 7300 ? 👀

@@PIasmaZombie Bluetooth would indeed be great! Also I still wonder why Icom has not put D-Star on their HF radios like the 7300, 7610 and now the 7760…..in the past Icom days that it would add additional cost to the radios but would it be that big of a jump? Going from a 7300 to a 7760 would be a big jump for sure! I still love and use my 7300! 73

@@PrecisionGroupYT maybe because it's useless in HF, they don't want to build something useless in their new very high grade radio like that 7760, i guess, else they would ruin their reputation. i think they aim to make the best HF radio, it has then of course to be best in every part of it. i had a new Icom IC-7100, that thing has D-Star, i tried it in HF and found it useless, i wouldn't miss it in a HF radio. i want to hear a side by side reception test between the 7300 and the new 7760, i want to hear first that the 7760 makes a very weak SSB speech signal intelligible that the 7300 can not, that would then be an actual big "jump" to upgrade from the 7300 to the 7760, else there would be no signficiant difference between one radio and the other (whatever brand / model number it is). we will see in 2025 when the 7760 is on the market. 73
@PrecisionGroupYT
@PrecisionGroupYT 24 күн бұрын
@@PIasmaZombie I must ask did you find that the D-star on your 7100 was useless because there aren’t enough HAM’s using D-Star on HF? The comparison of a 7300 ( and a 7610) compared to the 7760 on a weak signal test would definitely be interesting and I look forward to that comparison! Now the interesting thing is I believe Icom still has plans to come out with a new Flagship radio to replace the Ic-7851 so that will be interesting to see what they do and how it lines up to the 7760 as in the past the 7700 was only a single receiver Transceiver and now it’s predecessor is dual receive so what features would their New Flagship 7800 series radio have over the new 7760? Would they just add more Buttons and Knobs over what the 7760 and 7610 have? I believe they will but I would expect another jump in receiver performance among other improvements and perhaps more added features but we will have to wait and see I suppose! 73

> The yaesu ftdx101 has a cheap a/d - converter Yaesu's design doesn't need an expensive a/d converter because it uses a 9 MHz IF with a crystal roofing filter ahead of the converter. The Yaesu front end design out-performs the 7610 as the Sherwood list documents which is why Icom re-designed it for the 7760. The expectation is the 7760 will be more competitive or top Yaesu on the Sherwood list. I own an IC-705 for portable/backup and an FTdx10 for home. I agree the IC-705 sounds slightly better but the FTdx10 is better at digging weak signals out of the noise and held up much better during Field Day. They're both very good receivers, but the 7610 is trying to compete in the $3K contest ready category with a weaker front end than rigs costing much less. As a Macintosh software developer I am very sensitive to user interface design issues. I'm torn because I like the Icom UI better but their front end is weaker at each price point. Both companies are very aware of the competition as they try to fill gaps in their product line. I'm most curious whether Icom's Digital Pre-Distortation (DPD) is comparable to or includes CESSB (Controlled Envelope SSB) which increases talk power by up to 8 dB. A 200 watt radio with CESSB will punch nearly equivalent to a 1500 watt legal limit amplifier. That would justify the $6000 price and explain why the PA was designed for 200 watts continuous duty.

> Why don't these HF amateur base radios ever have bluetoooth connectivity Most bluetooth headphones or earbuds won't work for CW because the latency is too high. If you try to listen to the CW sidetone from the radio it doesn't match what your fingers are doing at the paddle. While it could work for SSB, including this to work with 3rd party headphones carries some risk of unhappy customers. The latest Bluetooth audio standard has a low latency mode to solve this problem so it's a matter of time for the market and technology to catch up before offering this feature. The IC-705 has built-in WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity for rig control, and GPS which ensures accurate time for digital modes and the on screen clock which is a nice feature. Hopefully the 7760 will include these.

Thank you! My question would be if it’s a trunked system did they encrypt it also? If they encrypted it then there is no way to legally listen in (it would be unlawful to decode it if it is). My next question is was it analog before? They might be doing a digital mode now like P25 (phase 1 or 2?) and unless you have a scanner capable of receiving P25 then you wouldn’t be able to hear it with an analog scanner! I have both a Uniden SDS100 and SDS200 and both scanners can receive digital modes like P25 and DMR plus they can handle trunked and simulcast systems and are great at doing so! You could also further research their system to see if they are using a digital mode and if it is encrypted? Look at Radio Reference to look them up! I hope this helps!

If you look at Tech4U’s video where I got the idea for this particular adjustable solar ground mount from he had 2x6 cross braces between the posts to make it more sturdy but I decided as my array would be smaller with less solar panels I decided not to put those extra cross braces in as I figured the SuperStrut would take the place of the 2x6 cross braces and make the array more rigid and sturdy as it’s pretty heavy duty stuff! I personally would not replace the SuperStrut with wood plus with the SuperStut it’s easier to make minor adjustments to the panels positions as well as to take the panels off in case a large storm like a Hurricane is coming (as I live in a state known for Hurricanes! )! As far as securing the array from moving in the wind I leave that to your best judgment! I found chains with Turnbuckles worked well for this for me! Thank you for your comment and questions! I have a $35.00 reservation with DX Engineering for the new Yaesu when it comes out in 2025. I have a Yaesu FT-818ND, with the Improved Windcamp Battery. It is nice, except for the small display and dim back lighting, like the old Yaesu FT-857 all mode 100 Watt one. 73 de W2CH Ray 😅

Neither of them are field radio’s The thing that constitutes a field radio is waterproof, rugged man, packable with a long life battery none of them out there at the moment, cover any of these as a priority

The Lab599 is the only purpose designed QRP radio that qualifies as a field radio, although with the amp and accessories hardly in the mostly affordable category.

I agree they need to be able to work in the elements. I’m concerned about whether a touchscreen will work when wet or very cold.

Looks like an expensive battery, prefer the setup with the battery on the Icom as it can be swapped out with the HTs. You still need external power for 10w with both radios anyway. Antenna socket on the tuner should have been BNC not SO239 in my view. The two good points with the Yaesu is the dual receive and dual antenna ports. I use a a diplexer on my Icom to give me two ports. Fans for finals cost extra and you don't need them for 10w FT8 with the Icom, it all looks too bulky to me. You can run the Icom tuner at the antenna for much better efficiency. All in all I'd only gain dual receive by going Yaesu and would suffer a worse menu system. Too many negatives with the Yaesu and not enough positives to change over in my view.

On the Icom you can't change the color of the waterfall. You are stuck with blue (or whatever color stands out with strong signals).

it has no bluetooth and i guess the A/D-Converter will be a cheap commercial one same as in their other HF radios (FT-710, FTDX-10, FTDX-101D/MP). i think the Icom IC-705 is the better alternative.
