Hi, Great video. Can you please tell me what tool you used for cutting the top of the holder? I was considering making a jig to clamp the sheath between two pieces of timber and then use a hole saw to cut the curve. This will be my second attempt at making proper thick leather holders. I didn’t cut the necks out in the ones I previously made becauseI the chisels would cut through the stitching. I’m thinking of gluing in a small piece of plastic to stop this happening in the future or making the holder slightly longer and putting a blob of hot glue at the bottom before stitching things together as a rivet would damage the edge of the chisel.
@TheMikeRybak

It's a round end strap punch. You could make the cut with a utility blade.

Does the chisel cut into the leather when you try to slide it in?

Not at all, I've been using these chisels on the daily and the sheaths are holding up well. Just allow for some clearance around the thread.

I have some of those tanks. What angle did you cut legs at? Good video.
@TheMikeRybak
@TheMikeRybak Жыл бұрын
Thank you! Unfortunately I dont remember. I believe I just did it by eye/using the framing square contraption as it sat on my bench, it gave me a parallel line to the top of the tank. The potion that is welded to the tank didnt have and angle. The only angle was on the "foot" portion that touches the ground.

How did you make the ends on the bottom? Did i miss that part? Like right where you screw your wheels too.
@TheMikeRybak
@TheMikeRybak Жыл бұрын
The base plate of the wheels was larger than standard 4x4, which is what I used for the whole build. I had to pad out the area by gluing some off cuts to each side of the 4x4 so it was large enough to take the base plate of the wheels. The wheels are from Harbor Freight.

Any issues with the intellisand feature. Ive seen some reviews cuting the intellisand slowing down too much and burning pieces.
@TheMikeRybak
@TheMikeRybak Жыл бұрын
I've never had any issue but I always run it on the conservative side. Generally when the intellisand kicks in I turn the handle a bit to reduce the load. These machines are great but I always have to remember it's not a planer/thicknesser. I still highly recommend one if you can swing it.

@@TheMikeRybak I'm interested for the fact that I hate scraping the glue ups and the planer always messes up glue ups. I just think a drum sander is the way to go if you got to glue up table tops

I made a similar set up about 10 years ago, but I added a coupler on one side to accept the bottom of a trailer jack that had a bbq screen welded to it. Had swivel and height adjustment with the jack. I also built a tall hangman pole to attach a block and tackle to hook a huge dutch oven on same bottom mount same swivel and height adjustable. Awesome video and good for showing others what can be done.

@Rybak what project ever gets completed on time Lol. If you rebuild it I'd suggest using a second tank bottom mounted on the opposite side of your grill with a jack to act as a lid like a "name brand" bbq. You can make bread or pizza with the thick steel and a little coals.

I just built one of these from a big air compressor and used the end with the legs. I am going to cut the motor/compressor mount off the other end and make another. I saw you using a cardboard template. Was that to get even 3rds for the legs? Can you explain that a little? I didn't listen in math when they told me I would use it! ;o)
@TheMikeRybak
@TheMikeRybak 2 жыл бұрын
Correct the cardboard was just to get even spacing for the 3 legs. 360 degrees divided by 3. The edges of the cardboard are 120 degrees apart
