With all my travels throughout the United States the places I saw the most crepe myrtles was Myrtle Beach South Carolina and also Florida😊🌹

Good morning Jeff thank you for taking the time to visit me. yes I’m told that South Carolina has the most crêpe myrtles. And it’s no wonder they grow so well in Florida as well. They must love that humid weather. How beautiful that must’ve been to see crêpe myrtle tree lined streets. What was the most popular color there? I didn’t know this but all crêpe myrtles have different sizes. ❤️🥰👍Liz

@@GardenHappy I found out that Crepe Myrtles were first brought to South Carolina by the French in the 1700s. They are originally from Southeast Asia. Might be the reason there are so many in the SE United States. You see them along the interstates and everywhere in seashore resorts. In Myrtle Beach they are mostly shades of pinks and also white ones, but I have also seen lavender, yellow, orange and red. Where I live in the Pennsylvania Mountains it's too cold for them but another gardener friend of mine sent me a photo of his last night. He planted it 3 years ago and it just bloomed this week. It's a new bush variety with deep pink flowers and cranberry leafs. It can live to -10 F. I was researching last night when I found your beautiful video and sent it to him. Thank you for your beautiful video. It brought back a lot of memories. 😊✌🏻

I want to tell you my mother's crepe myrtle story. It was 1975 and my parents took us to Williamsburg Virginia. And that was where we saw crepe myrtles for the first time. My mother fell in love and purchased a dark pink one she planted it in her yard in Pennsylvania. it grew absolutely beautiful with the molted bark and perfect. I trimmed it for her every single year and then in the late 90s we had a hard freeze 10 below zero and it killed The Crepe Myrtle, and she cried for days. So I drove down to Williamsburg Virginia and I bought her one in lavender but she did not like it and I felt really bad, and she said to me why did you buy me another dark pink one and then I felt terrible. Where i live they bloom in August. My mother adored crepe myrtles and she died in 2004 sadly. ❤

I'm Liz too! And also in zone 9b. I sure enjoy looking at your pretty garden. My poor yard has struggled more than I can fix. The heat has ruined my yard this year. I'm ready to just give up and pull everything out and prune the rest. I am now researching drip irrigation for next year. I am burnt out on hand watering. To many hours spent watering daily. I am enjoying seeing utube videos of gardens that survived the heat,

Hey there Liz it’s so nice to meet you. Oh my goodness I totally feel your pain and understand your struggle. I completely am burnt out right now from hand watering. This heat wave was crazy right? Thinking about next year I too am considering drip irrigation. At least for part of the garden anyway. I ripped out a lot of my things as well and replaced them with drought resistant plants like agave, cacti, and things like that so next year when things heat up these new plants will live through it. Summer garden burnout is real and very normal so just know that we are approaching fall and will have a chance to catch our breath very soon. Thank you for taking the time to visit me. I appreciate your comment. 👍🥰❤️Liz

Hi, Liz. I am envious of your sweet potato vine. Mine was going gang-busters and then the grasshoppers found it. Now the gorgeous leaves have holes all over. At the plant center, they suggested spraying it the mint water. I'm going to give that a try. 🤞🤞🤞

The passion flower is a beauty and a beast of lush green vines It's evergreen and it should keep its leaves unless you get frost. Does that happen in zone 9b? I know I get frost in 8b. The Autumn Joy is fun succulent, after the spectabile is finished blooming you can cut the stem and propagate the cuttings and it will grow. Sedum will handle a freeze with snow. They look like little cabbages when they pop out in the spring, They are a true garden warrior. I lost all my hens and chickens and stone crop succulents in the heat wave as well. The only ones that survived were my Eve's needle they're pretty hardy and you can also cut and propagate the stems. So now I'm doing the same with Easter lily cacti and small golden barrels and the variegated and an artichoke agave. Oh you are right on that one Liz they are spend-y. little plants. Your garden is always dazzling it's absolutely gorgeous with all blazing brilliant flora. If you have a moment look up Dichondra (silver falls) it's very similar to creeping jenny. Drought tolerant, and a pollinator magnet. You may have fun planting the seeds it has both creeping and draping habits. Happy gardening and be sure to have a blessed day.

Hello there, Kelly and thank you for taking the time to comment. It sounds like we had a lot in common this year in the garden. While I am sorry your hens and chicks didn’t make it through the heat wave…It makes me happy to know that you had the same experience as me so I guess we are both on the right track with the agave and Hardy succulents. Yes I have heard of those silver falls, I think they are absolutely beautiful. I have one in my patio growing right now still deciding where to put it in the garden, or maybe I will just leave it in the pot. We will see. I’m glad to know about the passion flower staying green. We don’t get much of a freeze maybe down to 35° so I guess there’s hope for the passion flower vine after all. I really appreciate you taking the time to visit me. Your comments are always very educating And encouraging so I thanks you again! 👍❤️🥰Liz

When you water do you add enough water to come out of the bottom of the pots? Your concrete always looks so clean without the water stains I get when I water!
@GardenHappy
@GardenHappy 2 күн бұрын
Hi June, that is a very good question. Normally when I water, I just add enough water to moisten in the plants but not come out of the pots. However, in the summertime, yes I do drench them and water comes out of the pots. You are right that is interesting. Why my concrete does not get more stained. That is a very good question. I don’t know how to answer that. Water always comes out of my vintage bathtubs yet there’s not a bunch of horrible stains. Maybe it’s because of the organic fertilizer I’m using. I use Espoma Tone organic fertilizer. Maybe it’s less harsh. 👍❤️🥰Liz

Hey there, Bob, thank you for taking the time to visit me. If you are buying “ chick” feed from the animal feed store they always sell what baby chicks need. They do need lots of proteins so if you are feeding them food, specially made for baby chicks, then you are doing the right thing. Usually for the first six months of their life, you feed them that kind of food. When they start laying eggs, that is when you feed them egg laying feed. I hope that helps. That's a great idea Liz - extending your tomato cages, who knew:). We've had a lot of storm damage and over 12 inches of rain but it also revived some of my herbs so tomorrow morning I'm harvesting three kinds of basil, lemon verbena, and lemon balm. The only veggie still producing is one pepper plant and the garlic chives, but at least my bananas survived and we harvested a ton of elderberries before the storm. Your dahlia is indeed a beauty. Gardens are always changing, it will be fun to see what you decide to do with those three beds. We had to take out a huge Java Plum tree, so I find myself with a lot less shade and less privacy. But, it will give me new gardening opportunities next spring. Zinnias and Dahlias are all done and so is a big part of the garden. We haven't even cleared out all of the storm damage yet - sigh, mostly because I can't deal with it any more. Anyway, thanks for another inspiring garden tour and a glimpse of the pup and fabulous rooster. Happy Gardening to you!

Hi Rose, thank you for taking the time to comment. I’m so sorry about all that storm damage you had but glad to know you are seeing it as an opportunity to create something new. I think it’s so awesome that you can grow bananas. Thank you for your compliment about my dahlia however, I’m learning that dahlias grow better in the shade in my garden zone nine. Next year I’ll be ready to grow them properly. This year, the sun just fried them and they did not do very well, except for the one picture that you probably saw on my video. That’s too bad You had to take out your plum tree and now you are without as much shade but so many things grow well in the sun so I guess it’s all a trade-off right? When is the Garden ever really finished right? Always changes all with something new to do and recover from. I always enjoy reading your messages. Thank you again Rose for taking the time to visit me. Happy gardening to you!!! ❤️👍🥰🌸🌼Liz

Tommy looks a little worse for wear. Please make sure they have extra food and they will be fine. Sometimes people do trap, spay neuter and RELEASE. IT IS A GOOD THING otherwise you end up with too many cats and that is not a good thing. Cats involved with trap and release have the tip of their left car cut (tipped) to distinguish them as being in the program. It is very important to do this. Once I ended up with 17 outdoor cats from a male and female kitten I got because my husband wouldn't let me get them fixed. After our divorce I got them all fixed. At the time it was only $20 each. Some places it is free. As time went on they all passed. All my cats are spayed or neutered (fixed). They are healthier and live longer!

Hi June, Tommy is pretty old! Hahaha I keep unlimited food out for him but he is still on the skinnier side now. The person who was trapping the cats was dumping the cats at a river far away. Cookie ( Tonnys sister, boy seen in the video) was missing for about 3 months then made her way back hone to my sons house. That is when I took them…. If the person was getting them fixed, I would approve of that. But not just dumping cats. The animal shelter told me that is actually illegal. Anyway, thank you for all of your information, you are definitely knowledgeable and educated on the matter. I appreciate you taking the time to comment. 🥰❤️👍Liz

Your garden is beautiful, it always is but so full of colour. I love it. It’s wonderful,all your pets getting on so well together. I will never understand why some people are so cruel! Cheers from Perth. Western Australia.

Hello there, Wendy thank you for your kind words. I can never understand why people are cruel to animals either. I don’t think God created us to be cruel to animals. He created us to take care of them. Animals are so innocent. thank you for your kind words and encouragement. ❤️🥰👍Liz

Thank you so much Andrea! I appreciate your kind words and encouragement. Yes I do love my animals and I leave food and water out for all the strays that come visit my backyard as well. It’s not their fault. They are homeless. They didn’t ask for their life. So it brings me joy to provide for them. Thanks again for your kind words. You are so sweet! 🥰❤️👍Liz
