This is Sammy at his best. Hia voice is at its peak. Just saw him and MA at the Concord Pavillion, and it was a great show, but he can't quite sing like he did in this video.

Better than the album cut IMHO. RAW ENERGY! I am glad to have lived through this period in hard rock music. No doubt!

He was no Eddie Van Halen, but he had a very unique and very tasteful style of phrasing. I can hear a distinct Richrath-esque influence in a lot of Slash's guitar playing. If you listen just right, you can pick it out real good.

0:32 He makes it look easy. 6 years practice from 1972 to 1978. Built his own amp and guitar at home, from scrap parts, because the sounds he heard in his head were not coming out of existing gear. Powered his amp via a Variac set to 90V. The Variac was pure EE genius. If you are warming up old amps to "re-form" the capacitors and see if it works, 90V on 120V Mains is when circuits come alive and start to work. Get the amp working, warm it up, then dial the voltage down right to the point the amp stops working. Hence the legendary "brown tone sound" EVH had.

My aunt met Eddie at the Betty Ford Clinic. She was an AP History teacher in high school and he had art knowledge, so they teamed up and beat everyone in Trivial Pursuit. She had no idea who he was. When my dad called her to check in on her, she said she teamed up with some guy who was apparently a very well-known guitar player. When my dad asked who and she said Eddie Van Halen, my dad freaked out because he knew I was a maaajor fan, taking guitar lessons and learning his songs at the time. He told her I was freaking out, so she got his phone number for me. So I called him and he picked up and then I froze and hung up on him and never called him back again. Lame, I know! I was just a little kid. I always regretted that.

I love Eddie and all, and may he RIP. He was a legend. That said, is no one going to discuss the fact that Paul Shaffer is going absolutely apeshit during this performance. The man is going legitimately buck wild out there, and he cannot be contained. Seriously this is amazing.
