I met EVH and the rest of the band at Disney World the day after a show in Lakeland, FL. We first saw DLR walking down Main Street with his bodyguard with several fans in tow. We eventually caught up with DLR at a bar in the Polynesian Resort. We chatted a while, he signed our ticket stubs, and he told us we could catch up with the rest of the band at their bus. We hung out at their bus in the parking lot. Eddie and Valerie handed out beers and VH guitar picks, and signed autographs. They were incredibly gracious to us I’ve met many celebrities over the years, even people who have walked on the moon. I have never been as star-struck as i was that day in 1981. His music was the sound of my youth and his passing hit me pretty hard. May he Rest In Peace.

"he makes it all look so effortless" - with his talent, it was literally effortless. I saw him in 1978 opening for the Rolling Stones. It was shitty because watching a concert in the Louisiana Superdome sucks by definition, cuz you are a mile away from anything, but I was there...I remember David Lee Roth screaming out : "The guitar of the 1980s, Eddie Van Halen!" before he started 'Eruption'. He truly was the guitar of the1980s. No one had ever heard ANYTHING like him.

As of 2007, Van Halen was one of only five rock bands with two studio albums that sold more than 10 million copies in the United State and is also tied for the most multi-platinum albums by an American band. Good grief, how much I love EVH. I am forever grateful for VH - all of it. He truly is the whole package - technique, rhythm, timing, joy and so melodic. RIP.

One thing I always loved about Eddie...he always played with a smile like he was really having fun.

People have the favorites. Me hands down Eddie Van Halen is the all time greatest guitar player that ever lived.

My rock soul cant take any more. Im still mourning the loss of Neal Pert. I remember watching this in 84. I got to see VH one time albeit with out David Lee Roth but Sammy was good and Eddie still jammed. I spent my teenage years memorizing VH tunes while working at a pizzeria as cook/dishwasher/bus boy. Gonna miss you Eddie. he was always so happy playing his guitar and i was just as equally happy just listening.

I like Paul Schafer throwing in a little of his own style in the mix.

Yeah, I don’t get why there’s all the hate for Paul. Sure, he’s a weird little guy, but the dude can play. All the organ needed here was more volume. (I defy anyone to come up with a better way to try to do DLR’s vocal part on a keyboard!)

Such an iconic performance, as a 90's kid who's played guitar for 13 years I always wish I could go back and see the greats play, thanks for everything Eddie, happy trails :*)
