An earlier post mentions the 'ship thing'? Not quite sure what it refers to but if it is the effects on the taste of the IPA during sailing then read Pete Brown's book 'Hops and Glory' (read all his books they are brilliant) where he essentially replicated the voyage of a traditionally brewed IPA from Burton on Trent, and carried it on a canal barge , then sailing schooner and finally container ship to Mumbai. The change in taste was so profound that Englishmen who came home from the colony demanded the same taste they enjoyed there, so brewers would gently spin the hogsheads during storage to replicate the movement of the ship.

The prolonged life & lots of other supposed health benefits of moderate alcohol consumption are statistical artifacts: At the baseline of zero intake are for one recovering alcoholics, who will probably have (also) had some health related reason to quit drinking. Additionally, when your health really goes south, you often times have to quit alcohol and a lot of other substances like nicotine etc. altogether, which adds another selection of people to the non-drinkers who are not unhealthy because they don't drink but don't drink because they are unhealthy.

It’s not gonna make better beer there I said it, it’s gonna make transferring a lot easier on your back specially if you have back problems and it looks nice.

Like scientists doing a study funded by a big pharmaceutical company, you get the results that you started out wanting. The tasting of the first batch comparison isn't valid. I Your short cuts were obvious and most likely intentional. Does extract brewing produce equivalent results? I doubt it, but we can't surmise that from this shit.

@TheHomebrewChallenge Nice brew - would certainly like to try that myself! Is it the Heritage No. 19 Maris Otter that you guys used? - there are several different Maris Otter. Also what volume of water did you use for the recipe?

When you add the raspberries to your keg for 3 days, are you using CO2 to carbonate the beer at the same time ?

Do you really need to sanitize equipment that only ever touches boiling wort? I was under the impression that the hot side in brewing allowed for some more relaxed standards in terms of infections. Using all that sanitizer strikes me as rather wasteful. Also, I once cracked a glass carboy when chilling down warm liquid by putting the container in cold water, even without adding ice. Sure, that wouldn't have happened without precursory cracks in the class. The carboy looked fine though, so there is little you can do to check against that, which is why I'd advise against exposing glass to such high temperature deltas. It might suffice using a container with a wide bottom and let it sit on a cold stone surface to chill down still reasonably quick.

In cooler areas you can stand your cheap fermenter in a bin full of water heated with an aquarium heater and closed transfer to a keg is no problem.
