Let me see... it wasn't banned but was the only car in the category that could not race anymore? Yeah, clear to me. It was banned. Just like the stupid rule that forced circuits to have straights no longer than a million kms, yeah sure, just say "LeMans", we all understood.

This car was actually one of the reasons that the bugatti veyron even exists. The bugattis top speed of 407 miles per hour was specifically chosen to beat the peugot, because the peugot took the record from the Porsche 917, which was developed by the (at the time) VW Group CEO Ferdinand Piech. Because bugatti belonged to VW at that time, the target was to hit over 407 kmh with the VW designed W16 engine. Also, really good video! 👍

The 787 wasn‘t too fast and got banned because of that. It also wasn‘t as dominant as people think. The car won, because it didn‘t break down like most favorits..
@SH19748 күн бұрын
That car is - without any doubt - very fast and impressive. But in '87 one of those cars made 13 laps, the other broke after 3.5 hours, less than 1/3 of the race duration. It was a dang fast car, but it couldn't really compete. Le Mans is not about top Speed, it's about driving fast for 24 hours and not break the car.
@RMJ9738 күн бұрын
Weren’t you listening? They were not there to compete as they knew they didn’t have a chance to win. All they cared about was breaking the record and they did! Pay attention smh

What can be defined as " fastest" in Le Mans history?? Highest top speed or average speed or maybe the vehicle traveled longest in 24 hrs?? IMHO I think its the Audi R15 since it covered the most distance in 24 hrs. A car is not fast if it has to stop every 30 mins for refuling, or breaks down after 20 laps.
@xnotasweatx8 күн бұрын
Fast in this definition is sheer speed

Really well done piece about an amazing car. But is the “fastest sports car in the world” hyperbole needed? It’s not a true statement (and any knowledgeable car fan will know that) and I think undermines credibility in the viewers eyes. There’s so many amazing facts about the 2000gt that exaggeration isn’t needed. This channel is great and I really hope it becomes more popular. I hope the constructive criticism is well… constructive.

It's like winning a traffic light race without the other car knowing. Speed and cornering ability are always a compromise. They won a competition without rivals. I think the car has to go at least the distance for it to count.
