Frank Zappa - you have only seen him as guitar-player, he was primary a composer with 100+ albums (start suggestion: Zomby Woof). Other artists like Gentle Giant, Jethro Tull, Avalanches, Buckethead, Nina Hagen, Kate Bush, Gorillaz, Tash Sultana, Samla Mammas Manna (aka von Zamla) to start with...
