@melaniehungerbuhler1935 Hi Melanie and thank you for your kind words. I don't hold the knitting up to the camera because I don't use autofocus (on my camera it makes too much noise and wears out the battery quickly)....I think in this episode I was holding the socks too low down for them to be seen easily all the time - I will be more aware of this in the future - thanks for the advice:)

And you can't go wrong with Jennifer Steingass, I've knit a two of her patterns and have more in my queue....the plutolopi really makes the goldwing - it's so lightweight and warm and perfectly woolly for easy colourwork. Wow, Áine , you've been busy with those nine inch circulars and I think you've become the master of colour work! The socks are gorgeous. Gorgeous. I loved hearing about the tree alphabet again. The wander through the woods at the end was lovely as well. We're fortunate to be heading up to the Kawartha Lakes to visit a friend's cottage - deep in the Canadian Shield - I can't wait to go mushroom hunting. And to touch all the trees... I might even take some knitting for the long cool evenings.

Áine, omg what a podcast! I am so stimulated and excited watching it. I bought the hinterland pattern back in May but haven't bought fabric yet. I adore your yellow pinafore/dress and your cardi. Amazing colours. Great designs. I hadn't heard of Merchant and Mills - think I will be buying some more patterns, although if truth be told I haven't sewn since I made my own clothes as a student in the 1980s. There is a knitting and stitching show coming to Belfast in November so I will look out for fabric there. (Like you, I live over an hour away from a fabric shop.) Also I think I will buy my daughter (and maybe myself lol) an M&M book for Christmas as I was thinking of getting her a sewing machine. Great to see you back and thanks so much for great content. What an amazing sewer your Mum was. My Granny and Mum were great knitters and cooks. I so agree with your philosophy around making. Last but no least what a lovely surprise - ceol galanta den scoth! You mentioned your mother was a sewist, and besides you listening and watching her, there is a theory called “Genetic memory” Take a look at it 👀 it’s super interesting. And last, but not least, you playing the harp at the end, was definitely ‘the icing on the cake’ ♥️♥️♥️♥️

@karynzlatkis thank you so much!! So glad you enjoyed the episode. I definitely believe in the idea of genetic memory. I had a family tree done by a genealogist friend of mine and there are tailors a few generations back on my Dad's side,my grandfather on my mum's side was a painter and decorator and way back in the 1830s on my mum's side there were craftspeople working with brass. Its definitely in the blood and so much a part of me I am driven to make things!! Im delighted with the sewing and have been loving wearing the Tunic. Hope you're enjoying September knitting, such a great time of the year......

HI Danielle, thanks so much for your lovely comments... It's funny about the colour of the cardigan, while I absolutely love it I wasn't sure it suited me as much as it used to. I still go with my instincts and choose colours that speak to me in some way.....Delighted you enjoyed the music - so good to hear people's positive reaction to it. Hopefully I can record some more. Thanks Aine, great to see you again. Cardigan looks fab, can see your dress in a woollen fabric for winter (have to say I'm tempted). Boy have you been bitten by the bug. When you were talking of your mother, I could hear the sound of a pinned pattern being cut out on our dinning room table by mine (don't cut paper with my good scissors!). Hi Jo- Anne Thanks for your lovely comments. When I read your comment about your memories of your mother cutting out fabric I couldn't believe it - that is a sound I remember so clearly also. AND my mother used to say the same thing about her scissors - we weren't allowed to go near the 'good scissors'! What fantastic memories to have.
