Kudos for going MT 09! One other advantage of a smaller bike: if you drop it repairs are less costly, a lot of them hold their value so you can always sell and buy bigger.

Hows your progress coming? I just got my first street bike. Been riding harleys for 10 years and used to be able to ride through 2 or 3 gears on my old race quad. Never done a wheelie on motorcycle but i wanna learn even though im 38 and prolly shoulda learned that 10 years ago!

I hear the same line a lot of places referencing 300-400cc bikes: "there's a lot of things you will learn on a 300 that you either won't learn or will take longer on a 600 (or higher)" But not a single person has ever described what those things are. I've been driving performance cars for 10 years now. I know what it means to respect the vehicle before you start putting power down. I know eye discipline, racing line, counter steering, shifting, ... ... what *_exactly_* is it I'm supposed to waste $5k being upside down on a 400cc bike I'll trade in less than 6 months that I can't learn on an MT-07, GSX-8, or MT-09 ? Seems like nobody can answer that question with a tangible list.

💯 I feel the same way! I'm 44 6'3 275, wtf I look like buying and riding a 300 or 400? My first bike is going to either be an MT-09 or an 8s. Take it slow and learn.

My first bike was a GSXR 600. People said the same thing about starting on a 600cc bike like that, but I knew my limits and rode it with respect. Never had a problem. Never did any squid shit either. 🦑

I 100% agree everyone’s different! Additionally, that’s why bikes have different modes. Do you really think the rain mode is just for rain? No it’s a beginner setting! People wanna buy & get used to one bike and not have to upgrade!
