What's up KZbin Family! This video is kind of a follow up to a video I did a while back about the Yamaha MT-09 being my first bike. I absolutely love this bike and have learned a lot in the past year and a half. I know I still have a long way to go but I just wanted to share my thoughts with you all. Thanks so much for watching. If you have any questions/comments be sure to post them below. Also be sure to check out my other videos I have linked below.

@@cricedaking1 I've had the 2015fz09 for 3 seasons. Been riding for 35 years. Lots of the old KZ and Suzuki big 4 cylinder bikes. This lightweight 3 banger pulls harder than any I've had. M4 exhaust and PUIG screen. No flash. Wasn't needed for the slip on exhaust. I dont really want more than 132mph on this style of bike anyway. By far the most fun bike I've ever had. I have a 2010 FZ6R as well. So I can choose a different way to go on different days. I think torque more fun than crazy top speed. Never did wheelies on street before. Hundreds of little ones on the FZ. Like any other bike - take to get used to how it handles. No 2. Bikes the same. Would love to have the MT10. In a perfect world we'd all have at least 3 bikes on the garage. Dual sport too

Good video. I agree, if you know your limits and respect yourself, you can learn on whatever you want. I get the opposite criticism that you get. Some people think my Ninja 300 is too slow to be fun. I've owned 9 bikes of every riding style in 18 months. I currently own a FJ-09, FJR1300 and Tiger Explorer 1200. Know your riding skills, limitations and maturity and ride the bike that makes you the happiest and don't ride what others want you to ride.

Screw everyone else's thoughts and opinions. You are the only one that can define what you are capable of. I ignored my salesman and bought a 2017 Kawi Z900 as my first bike, 29 months and 25k later and I'm still good to go and pushing my limits and improving my skills. Remember our uncle pushing this is your safety ☝️? Well this is the new safety 👊! The good thing with the newer MT-09’s is abs is standard and rain mode keeps the front wheel down so it is possible to start on if you can handle the height of it. I’m glad I waited because it took a while for my brain to mature enough to not yank a throttle wide open every time I’m moving

I couldn't get used to the feeling of riding a poor handling lazy-boy and it was heavy. I sold it and am now looking at the MT-09. Always be smart and safe. If you practice, be smart and safe, it's way better to have power and not need or use it, than to want or need more power and not have it.

Thank you for your service. Canadian Airman here. Not everyone has a good heed on their shoulder like you sound, many don't live long after getting a bike. Reference different styles of bikes, I started on dirtbikes at 12 years old, raced them for a few years, hurt myself and didn't want to lose my primary job. I switched to street on a 2010 Ducati Monster 796. I found due to my previous injuries, the sitting position on the monster was aggravating my knee, after long rides. i got a Kawasaki Vaquero in 2015, I thought I liked cruisers, but after riding that for a bit, I'm not feeling it. I'm getting a Tracer 9 GT this summer. Still ride track with my GSXR 600, so that takes care of the fast stuff lol. Hope you like the cruisers, ride safe.

Well said bro! I rode dirt bikes when I was younger and started on a R1 and just took it easy until I got used to it. I have a 2018 MT09 now and love it. 52 now so the seating position is better lol! I hope to keep this bike and add a Harley Ultra to the garage if and when the economy straitens out, but keeping the 09 for when I wanna go play!

Enjoyed the video, clearly you are more mature and responsible than I was starting out. I’m also trying to learn wheelies on my ‘17 FZ09 but the dang snatchy throttle is what makes it hard. Putting a ZX-6R rear shock really helps power it up though without losing energy from the OEM shock compressing

I came across this today as i am researching mt09. I’ve owned the 03 for 18 months & thinking of skipping the 07 & go for an 09 2024 as a bit of a forever bike. Or at least 5 years or so! You are right in what you are saying I think. It’s all about mindset. Yes you would need certain good skills to go for a bike like this. I think I’m ready. Thank you for a great video.

Great video. Been thinking of this exact topic since I just bought my first bike. I went for the XSR 700 but I was in doubt of getting the XSR 900. Almost everybody told me not to go for the 900 since it´s definitely not a beginner bike. In the end, I did listen though. I know myself. For daily driving, I will use my car and the 700 is good enough not to get bored quickly. Besides I think i do not need that extra power. All I care about is that I can ride.

I’m planning on grabbing an MT-09 as my first bike. I’ve grown up driving and riding anything with a motor with 2 or more wheels. I’ve read a lot of reviews and seen a lot of people mention the snappy throttle and that it’s a bike that has a lot of torque. That makes me nervous but that just means I’m not going to hop on the bike and put myself in a situation where I’m a danger to myself or others. I live out in the country surrounded by backroads to get comfortable with the bike.

My first bike was a GSXR 1000R, in the 90s. Second bike I bought was a CBR 600. Sold both bikes in 2006. Latest bike was an MT-09. (bought in June) I LOVE IT. Best bike I've owned. Thanks for the video.

Hell yeah. I grew up riding dirt bikes, in adult life have a dr650 dual sport. Had a kawi vulcan 1500 for a few years, then picked up a 14 fz09 last year. So its technically my 1st street bike. But having 20+ years of riding 2 wheels....it hasnt been a problem. Love the bike! Tons of power and fun. As long as you respect the power. And always in A mode lol

My first bike was an MT07. After two months I regretted it immensely but I was locked into a finance plan. I rode it for 12 months and then sold it at a loss because I simply wanted/needed something faster. I now have a gixxer 750 and whilst it’s not the fastest bike, it ticks many more boxes for me in the speed/adrenaline departments. MT09 sounds like the sweet spot and I will likely buy one as a city rider and keep the gixxer for weekends.

I appreciate this video I came across randomly man. I am in the same boat: license forever but still haven't pulled the trigger on a bike. Been drawn towards the mt-09 forever but wondering if it's too much power for me. My good buddy who is a track rider says the same thing - know your limits and ultimately you have control of the throttle - its not only the size of the bike that necessarily matters. Also you seem like a well rounded guy, so thumbs up to this vid. Thanks!

Right on brotha! Agree with all your points. It’s only as dangerous as you choose it to be. YOU are in control of the throttle whether it’s a 600 or 1000. I leaned on a liter bike and probably was safer than people on a 600 super sport. What a beautiful bike the MT-09 is too!! I want an MT-10 so badly but hoping they redesign it soon more like the one you have. Also thanks for your service!!!
