I live in Australia. You don't need to check for animals in someone's house bathroom. It's the public ones, especially the ones in a forest in somewhere like the outside of Cairns. Lots of bats and bugs.

On the alcohol thing, yes they can't sell the alcohol in the actual supermarket, but they sort of get around that by having the supermarket own a bottle shop. For example, a lot of Coles stores have a Liquorland right next to it, since that's owned by Coles, but they set it as a separate business so they can sell the alcohol that way. And Woolworths owns BWS.

Canberra is exactly like this but with much colder temperatures. There are even days where the sun will be out and it will still be freezing. Those days we just say it's just a fake sun and go on about our day as if nothing happened.

I have been known to, on the occasion, go to Bunnings for a breaky snag. Now the kids are onboard too. It's great, sometimes I don't even go inside.

All supermarkets have a connected liquor store though (liquor land, bws) also Aldi has wine in store

Also don't forget about our sand monkeys, they live in and around sand hills in coastal and inland places like the Simpson desert. As you walk up the sand hill they can reach out with their arms and grab you by your ankles, they are dark red and nasty.
