Stradbroke Island is a great place to go to and can be accessed by public transport too, just catch a train to Cleveland and there are free shuttle buses to the ferries and Stradbroke island buses to get you to the surf side. North Gorge at Point Lookout is great for a walk and many great beaches there too.

West End is wonderful. Full of unique little eateries. Really laid back. Great food store Harris Farms. Gelato shop amazing!!!

I'm pretty sure only last week holding koalas was banned due to welfare concerns and stress shown by koalas while being handled. You have to stand next to one of the keepers and I think you can only have your photo taken with your hand on the koala.
