The Traveling and Road trip advise is spot on for Aus. But, isn't Indiana Jones afraid of snakes?

Yeah, I had a good laugh at some tourists who had tried to do a round Australia trip. They stopped me and asked how far they were from Darwin (state capital of Northern Territory). I googled it to make sure I was reasonably accurate and told them that if they drove 8hrs a day, they'd get there in about 5 days. They didn't believe me when I told them they were still in the same state they'd started in that morning. They were international students from different countries, but the two who spoke to me were French and English. No idea where the other two were from, they stayed in the car.

Oh….oh wow. That would have been a shock!! The thing is I do get it, like ‘let’s go to Australia and travel around! Make the most of it as it’s such a long flight!’ But the reality is so, so different. And the older I get I’m like nope - I need to plan in a rest day. A day to do my laundry 😂 I’d rather do one thing well, then 1000. And you don’t wanna spend your whole time driving! And it boggles my mind.that from Brisbane, I can get to Melbourne quicker, than north qld! 😂

@TheJordanaGrace the funny part is that I'm in NSW. They left from Sydney and asked if they were close to Darwin after about 5hrs driving. They'd barely gotten halfway to Brisbane. This was after everyone got smart phones and could google things. This was impressive levels of stupidity. I think they bought a second hand car somewhere and decided to do a road trip around Australia with zero planning.

The Copperhead snake in Australia is highly venomous. From Australian Museum "The venom is powerfully neurotoxic, haemolytic and cytotoxic, and a bite from an adult of any of the species may be potentially fatal without medical assistance."

@@matthewcullen1298 Seems like there is some confusion with the American Copperheaded Ratsnake, which is relatively harmless but ONLY lives in North America. That said the American Copperhead snake is venomous. Most Australians are NOT going to get close enough to any part of a snake to count scales. Apparently the harmless keelback freshwater snake bears a striking similarity to the Clarence River or rough scaled snake which is highly venomous.

I think your planning advice was spot on with the map and iconic sites you want to see prior to paying for a trip down under (straight to Sydney and then work it out from there might not be financially or time worthy; planning is key) and probably hire a car or Campervan (RV) depending on where you want to visit because on those road trips you can find little hidden gems and the best bakeries in those little country towns too. A good list and to add to the snakes, just observe from a distance no matter the species and all species are protected under the Wildlife Act of Australia, so if you're seen killing one in panic mode, and they dob you in, you'll be dealt with harshly.

Oh yeah I can only imagine the fines for Killing a snake. The issue with that is what we ‘think we should do’. Like I’ve been told by non Aussies before coming here ‘kill the snake and bring it to hospital if you’ve been bitten for the doctors’ and that is not the way! and possums are cute - but still. Do not touch! and thanks for the comments - I’m trying to think what I wish I knew before coming here - cuz of course it would be nice to see it all, but you would need months! And flights are not cheap!

@@julzhunt7790 with the lists of "Dangerous" snakes it's 8 or 9 of the top ten terrestrial snakes are Australian, the ring-in is one of the Cobras at 4, and the Green Mamba (or Black) at 10 or 11. When the sea-snakes are added that's where it drops to seven of ten, and 16 of 25, thanks to sea and coral snakes of the Caribbean and Pacific Islands.

@@TheJordanaGrace No, it is not. There are various unrelated snakes around the world called "copperheads". The ones in Australia are about as venomous as an Indian cobra: the bite is quite capable of killing a healthy adult if it is not treated. Do not play with the danger noodles, no matter what anyone tells you on KZbin. Do not attack the danger noodles either - more than half of snake-bite injuries in Australia are caused by people attacking the snakes.

Wildlife: even echidnas are dangerous when driving! If you hit one your tyre is punctured in multiple places and if it gets more than one, you need to be towed. Don't swerve for anything, brake, keep car straight, and relax! Relax so that if you make contact you will do less damage to yourself. Rigid body will cause injury to you. Oh, and if it is night, turn high beams off if it stops and looks at you.
