Co2 means faster growth but also faster depreciation of nutrients in the soil. I'm in no rush to have to use fertilizers.
@magnetars647724 күн бұрын
I wonder what if you add sand for one of the tanks and see how they compare, Im preatty sure algea is because the excess nutriants from soil is leatching into water

Do not add fertilizer then check for algae. CO2, Light, and Fertilizer I think these are the TOP main reason algae grow. Edit: I have just seen your last video. you quit making aquarium video.

Your FIRST BIG MISTAKE is to use ‘DIY fertiliser’. You cannot know the real PPM ratios in DIY fertilisers without testing in the right environment. This is the main reason why there is algae in your aquariums. In newly tanks, you may not even give any fertiliser for the first 2-3 weeks. Because the fertiliser at the bottom of the tank supports the plants sufficiently. The main problem in your tank is WRONG FERTILISERING.

With more co2 you also need more light for the plants to use it. If the light on the two tanks was the same, its not a good comparison. Also co2 should stop when the light is off.

Hi these maybe a stupid question can i ask the reason why you add fish food in the tank?
@NutamagoАй бұрын
fish food contains protein and nutrients. In short, it's a way to feed everything in the tank. Plants, bacteria, critters, worms, etc. If you need more info, read diana walstad ecology of the planted aquarium
@DrSKMetz4 ай бұрын
I've recently started using co2 after decades of aquarium keeping. I've found that it makes a huge difference in a tank with a gravel or sand substrate. The difference might be less noticeable in a tank with aquasoil or dirt substrate. I'm using an inexpensive DIY system on my 29 gallon but plan to add a pressurized system on a planned 70 gallon "dream" tank.
@cameronbasford89914 ай бұрын
Your algae issue is from too much nutrients. Fish food plus fertiliser every day is too much.

I would say the rotala in the tank without co2 is turning red because of less algae so clearer water meaning more light.

Thanks for playing real music instead of the usual computer generated rubbish for deaf ears. Thanks again for displaying what can be achieved beyond any mainsteam way of thinking. And yep fish, snails and shrimp produce CO2 and minerals (by ways of bacterial breakdown) which can support survival of plants in this particular set-up. Gas exchange is bad for plants you are telling us here. But you are using a skimmer and a strong fan which agitate the water surface heavily whereby you kind of contradict yourself and your claim. I suppose you need to explain what exactly you mean by gas exchange.

I think the usage of ferts so quickly is the reason the algae came. The substrate has plenty of nutrients for weeks, mayby months. I would fert when i see the plants ask for it.
@AriaArah9 ай бұрын
It's worth it if you have the means, time and money for CO2. But if not, just be diligent in maintaining and fertilizing your tank. It also depends on the types of plants you have. If you plan to keep a tank with high tech and carpeting plants, then you should use CO@, but if you plan on keeping the low tech route then it is not necessary.
