So i'll be the summary person (unless someone else already has commented what happened. Then in that case, I'm sorry): So about 2 weeks after the initial post, OP posted in r/legaladvice asking how to divorce Dave because Avery *STABBED* her! OP later clarified in an update about a week later on what happened. Apparently Dave had invited Avery over to their home so the two can spend some time together. OP had been in the kitchen when Avery grabbed a knife and stabbed her. OP was rushed to the hospital, filed a police report (which amounted to nothing because for some reason the police wanted video evidence of the stabbing...) Dave was furious...not because his son stabbed his wife, no of course not. He was mad because OP filed a police report. As soon as OP got out of the hospital, she moved out and into her sister's house, filed for divorce and a restraining order and had plans on suing both Dave and Avery. OP then clarified any details she left out: When she and Avery first met, she told him that she is not mom and won't act like she is because his mom is still very much in his life. Things had been "minor" from screaming and tantrums to stealing small things like snacks and trinkets to actually destroying part of the house like throwing pictures off the wall and stabbing the couch. OP would call his mom and inform her what he did and a couple times would send him to his room. She did scream at him for what he did to her cat and at her wedding (but let's be honest, that was justified) She also clarified why Dave and his ex split: apparently Dave didn't want to act like Avery's parent, he just wanted to be his buddy and dumped all the parenting responsibility on his wife who couldn't take it anymore. OP then posted an update about a year later announcing her divorce had been official for about 3 months and she had just gotten her restraining order. She also mentioned Avery had been arrested because he broke into his mother's house and tried stealing from her gun safe. However he was caught on camera and arrested. About a year after that update, OP posted one final time: after OP and Dave got divorced, he dated someone else for a couple months before they broke up. The reason was: Avery showed up at her home and threatened to end her (safe to say why he was trying to steal his mom's gun). OP isn't sure if he was actually charged with anything but added that if he was, he didn't serve jail time. Then she got to the real purpose of the update: three months prior, Avery had been at a party when he somehow ended up with a handgun and supposedly shot himself. The police labeled it as a suicide and the reason why it's "supposedly" is because the police aren't entirely sure. They had just gone off what the other partygoers claimed. As of her last update, OP is doing better. She's in therapy, looking into getting a new cat and is ok with the idea of dating again Edit: should mention, this happened about 4 years ago in 2020. OP met Avery when he was 13, she got married to Dave when Avery was 17. OP and Dave had dated each other for four years and were married for 2 years prior to her posts

First I want to say you are amazing dad to both do both of your children in a relationship you have with your daughter proves that if your mother cannot respect your wishes as her son to show you and your wife and your children the respect you all deserve especially because your wife did not cheat I don't think she deserves to be around any of you it's a privilege to be a grandmother not a right and on top of that she doesn't respect your opinion you've made it perfectly clear tell her how much you love your children biological or not and how much you love your wife and she is not a cheater in your eyes born anybody's eyes I don't think any of your family that's willing to hurt your daughter like that or you or your wife and potentially your son when he gets older deserves to be around your children if they're not going to respect your wishes I give the upmost respect do you your wife and your sister for doing what was right and trying to protect your children the fact that she had no guilt or no second thoughts about hurting your daughter that way shows the world that she doesn't love respect you or considered you or your wife's feelings I'm glad you cut everybody off except for your sister that seems to be the only one spiritually gets what you're going through because of the way your guys's mother treats her stepson I guarantee your sister loves her stepson just as much as you love your daughter it does not matter to you that she is not biologically yours she is your daughter and your best friend you definitely need to keep her away from you and your children and your family before she causes irreversible damage to the whole family unit the fact that she treats your sister stepson the way that she does I don't blame you for not wanting to tell her anybody that can't love a child that's willing to love her there is something wrong with her as a person as a mother when does the so-called grandmother my mom has tons of kids in her life that aren't biologically related to her or us but she still is their grandma and does not treat them any differently than she does her biological grandchildren search for grandparents are supposed to do love them no matter what I'm really sorry you're going through this but I'm really proud that you are being smart enough to keep your kids and your wife and yourself away from a toxic situation like that you and your wife are an amazing couple and amazing parents and I'm going to raise two amazing loving kids despite everything everybody else has tried to do to ruin it at the end of the day your family of four is all that really matters thank you for protecting your daughter when your own family won't even respect your wishes I understand why you never told anybody because in your eyes it would not change anything your love for your daughter whether she was biologically yours or not thank you for being amazing parents I'm so sorry you're going through this it will get better I promise
