Aside from the character Treemonisha being portrayed as a feminist, anti-slavery-cruelty, Black-power character, the rest of this production is wonderful and perfect. The dance at the end of Act 2 is particularly spectacular!

This style of dance is unique and the documentary does a great job highlighting Katherine Dunham's impact on the world of dance. Dunham was very creative as she mixed African dance culture into American dance.

I first saw this dance at Wolf Trap in the mid-1970s, when I was a child with my mother. I think Judith Jamison was dancing it. Suddenly, a woman in the audience got up and screamed. I was so young, at the time, I wondered why she did that, and I asked Mom. Now, of course, I realize why she was so moved. Then, about a decade later, I saw, I think, Donna Wood dance this in NYC. I may be recalling this wrong, but from my recollection, Judith was in the wings, dancing along, and I think she came out for the final moments and danced in her muumuu alongside Donna. It was very exciting.

When I first saw "The Stack up " 1993 It totally change /open up my eyes 2 what I thought a dance production could be. ..I was so inspired I choreographed my own first big production. I title it "Glam Slam " The focus was on jazzy street dance mix with a street fashion show...The music was " US3 - Cantaloop (Flip Fantasia) " ...of course I was the lead male dancers and we closed the show. I will 4ever be connected 2 "The Stack up "

Dunham I think was quite interesting in how she purposely mixed cultural African concepts or styles into dance. Liked the seeing the videos of these dances in action, the ag'ya one was cool and I can visually see the martial arts aspect.
