It's 52 years since I first heard Joni Mitchell and I've loved her ever since. Her albums are a background to so many of our lives. Every one is different but "Blue" for me is special.

This song, from her most critically acclaimed album BLUE, is about her break up with Graham Nash. BLUE is worth a listen if you have a chance. Her voice shines (no autotune!) and the tone throughout is, well, blue.

A very sad (minor key) Jingle Bells intro and outro. Everyone's joy of Christmas superimposed on her heartbroken loss. If she had a frozen-over river, she could leave the home of their relationship and just keep going. She could teach her feet to fly. Great pick, thanks - more Joni is welcomed. Merry Christmas to you, bud -

Apparently this was a track on Joni's 1971 album 'Blue'. I got to hear of it through a lovely version sung by English folk singer Kellie While and the Albion Christmas Band.

Gorgeous song Jingle Bells sounds jarring on her piano 🎹 She was breaking up with Graham Nash; LA was too green (as it always is) she missed Canadian Winters. It’s about loss during the season when others are Puttin up reindeers & singing songs of joy and peace It’s a remarkable song sung by iconic writer singer artist Mitchell

Amelia and Little Green are my absolute favourites. Also California, Case of You and Help me

Joni Mitchell's music deals with isolation better than almost any other artist, ever. "Amelia" is one of her best songs that tackles this topic. Springsteen's music also deals with isolation. In Bruce Springsteen's recent interviews and songs, he seems to be winning that battle and the result is he has a wife, grown children, friends...a pretty full life. Not sure if Joni ever beat this part of her personality & won that battle. (Though I'm putting together things she said in interviews, things said about her...basically "reading the tea leaves"...so I could be wrong.) Songs like "River" are a cautionary tale...
