I taught Ian in high school and I’m so proud of him. He’s so good at usage of imagery. If you’re interested I can explain why I talked about the copper line etc. People with this addiction will sell copper line or steal anything to continue their addiction. The town of Beattyville where Ian and I am from is dying from meth problems.

His songwriting is so real, so descriptive.

Love this whole album. Ian's from around my way here in Southeast Kentucky. "Letter to Madeline" and "Irene (Raving Bomb)" are on highlights on this album as well.

I was just watching some of this dude’s videos and saw the title of this one and decided to give it a try, never heard of Ian before now. But myself being born and raised in eastern Kentucky, I knew I was listening to a Kentucky boy as soon as he got going.

Hey! I started my Christmas break today and finally getting a breather to catch up on some videos. Great reaction! This whole album is top notch. I was so excited for you to give him a listen. He really knows how to paint a picture with words, especially the sad ones. Unfortunately, this is a very real look at meth addiction. You mentioned inner cities and it definitely exists there, but the rural and poor areas throughout the southern US have been riddled with meth addiction. Even in the small town of 3,000 I live in, it's prevalent. People walk the roads just like he described. They steal, beg, and will do almost anything for a fix. He mentions the guy stealing copper. It is a common material taken from construction sites and even people's homes and air conditioning units and they sell it as scrap metal. Meth is really crazy around here. As a matter of fact, the guy that lives across the street from me is called "the meth king of ****." (The town I live in) He's just writing what he has seen all around him. I love how real it is, even though it's really sad to think about. These people are someone's daughter, son, sister, brother, mother, father.... Heartbreaking....

Kentucky not far from where Ian is from. A lot of great musicians from eastern Ky past and present. You should check out an up and coming Eastern Ky young man Tyler Booth. He is a good mix of classic and current country.

I don’t believe this to be a cautionary song or a song of sorrow over a rampant problem that has cursed vulnerable people. Let’s not mince words here, this song is one of contempt! Great song though
