What joystick did you use for Comanche 3? I've been eyeing on alternative input controllers (specifically a wheel, arcade stick, flight joy stick) and maybe VR once I build my own PC.

Nah, it looked very similar to the first game, and I had already dumped enough hours into 3 and 4
@drupiROM16 сағат бұрын
@@salokin3087 You should try it, it's more on the sim side than arcade, but it has dynamic campaigns and the RAH-66 and Ka-52, and with the first game Apache and Havoc, you can fly around in those too.

It’s awesome you posted this! Coincidentally, somebody just gave me an old Sony Vaio Desktop Pentium 200 PC. It’s perfect for Comanche 3 which I just got a used copy of from eBay. I cleaned up the PC (it was headed for the recycling center) and installed Windows 98 and Comanche 3. I made it through the training missions with my Sidewinder 3D joystick. Quick question - have you beaten ALL the missions in Comanche 3? It’s my new goal! Just wondering who else may have done it. Thanks for the video!

I finished most of Comanche 3's missions but i just couldn't manage Red Tide
@MusicStudent114 сағат бұрын
@ I hear you. There’s always one or two IMPOSSIBLY HARD missions in these games. I mastered Armored Fist 1994 (there was one super difficult mission that I figured out) but ran out of patience trying to beat Comanche CD. I think I beat Armored Fist 2 years ago. Not sure if I can beat Comanche 3 but I’m going to give it a try. Thanks!

My dad's scout unit in the Army was supposed to get Comanches to replace their Kiowas, sadly as we all know the program was cancelled and he flew Kios until he ended his tour.

A stealth helicopter was a dubious concept to begin with, because rotors are excellent at reflecting radar beams. And by the time RAH-66's prototype was making its test flights militaries across the world had developed new technologies and strategies against stealth aircraft, which worked well against F117's in Kosovo. Meaning that the Comanche would also be vulnerable. And being primarily a reconnaissance helicopter, it already faced stiff competition from drones. In short, the project was a poorly thought out waste of taxpayer money.
@salokin30872 күн бұрын
@alperkaanbilir1776 all fair points, but I think it died due to the lack of need. After the gulf war, the US was fighting unmechanised insurgence most of the time. The stealth tech wouldn't be needed. But it looks cool.

My favourite thing about Comanche Gold is the stealth gameplay. Hugging the terrain at below 20ft while maintaining speeds above 100 knots feels really satisfying. I hope Novalogic (if they still exist) sees this and make a remaster. I will willingly pay at full price.

"Fan fiction lore is brain poison" I mean, to be fair, the story and lore of the Marathon trilogy has always been a minefield/goldmine of cognitohazards. The trilogy wouldn't be the masterpiece that it is if not for the way it teeters precariously on the razor thin line between the looming threat of spiral-inducing brain poison and the 90s era sprite shooting that's oddly juxtaposed but somehow a perfect counterbalance. Now that I'm done fooling myself into thinking I'm funny and clever, I will say that Apotheosis X really is very impressive and shows the talent and dedication that exists in the relatively miniscule community of fans that exists and is still active in this day and age, and not only because the new campaign itself is impressive. Apotheosis X does a really good job of utilizing some of the more advanced features of the Aleph One engine that have been developed and folded into the codebase over the years but still rarely ever see use by most of the active mappers that are releasing mods and custom campaigns for it. Some of those more advanced features are actually pretty impressive when viewed through the lense of how old the original games are and how old the original source code for the Marathon 2 engine (which iirc is the code that ended up seeing further development by the community after Bungie released it but feel free to correct me if I'm wrong) that served as the foundation that Aleph One would eventually be built off of, especially considering the fact that up until pretty recently Aleph One was developed and maintained by a very, very small group of people compared to number of hobbyist devs that are working on source ports that are available for other FPS games from around the same time that maintain an active player base today like Doom/Doom II or Quake. It does seem like development of Aleph One has picked up some momentum recently, probably because the announcement that the Marathon IP is being revived brought attention to the originals and the modern Marathon community and I imagine that a number of returning fans from the old days and maybe even some people that had never played or heard of Marathon until within the last couple of years (including myself, Marathon is older than I am by nearly half a decade) have been drawn in, and of those people that are just starting to engage or reengage with the Marathon community I get the impression that some of them are looking to contribute to Aleph One itself or to the modding and mapping scene that's built around it.
