I got good fast by joining different style bands. I was playing salsa, country, rock, metal, tejano and just learning playing in the key and noticing the habits of musicians. It seems like a lot but if you learn keys and playing in circles, aka jazz falls (Autumn leaves), you'll be okay.

I decided to get them all. Fender jazz basses, 1 p-bass, 2 Ibanez 5 string, 1 5 string fretless Ibanez, 6 string Yamaha. Got rid of the girlfriend so I don't get headaches with any of the tones.

Jermaine, I love your videos, especially this one, because I was a part of a contemporary gospel quartet group. Our group came to Louin, Mississippi, and we had a great time playing with some of the home groups. I need some more instructions since I hadn't played in a while.

Why do we do that? Give any bass player a bass and the first thing they play is minor pentatonic, 9 out of 10 bass players will line check with something minor pentatonic… its because it’s naturally funky and you can switch from finger style to slap easily on the ears and get a nice dynamic sound check

Hey man I'm really trying to nail down getting this kinda tone. Have you got eq suggestions? Do you play on both pickups? It also sounds like it's driven slightly? I'm guessing there is some compression? Any help would be great 👍

I have a problem knowing all the notes that are on the fret board. In other words when I play the major scales for example I know the C major scale C,D,E,F,G,A,B,C. But when I play the D major scale I know the root note is D, and buy looking at my bass, I don't know what the 2nd note is. But I know that all major scales are played with the same pattern. So in other words I can play a D major scales but I want know what all the notes are that I am playing. That has been a big issue with me Mr. Morgan and this is Mr. Illes Bass telling you this we have spoken with each other on the phone before Ann via email also.

It was so funny, I totally wasn't thinking "Black Folks Gospel" when I read gospel bass lines. Gospel music is what got me interested in bass but it was boring Ole White Folk gospel. I love them loping, lumbering bass lines but Black Folk Gospel is hip a funky, a little hard for me to follow, good stuff though, it's good stuff, and funky.

It would be more helpful if you had the whole chart on one screen. Flashing individual roots like this doesn’t allow you to read ahead and plan for the changes.

Shooting for 100, and hitting 11, or 12 could be something that hurts motivation. Different people learn differently. I stopped because my teacher started me too far ahead of where a beginner should be. I want to learn the rules before I learn to play songs, because if I know the rules I should be able to figure out how to play any song. 🤷🏾‍♂️

Haha! You are 100% correct. I started playing the minor pentatonic scale shortly after I got my bass many years ago and just thought it was a cool-ass riff. I was pretty stoked when I eventually decided to learn scales and discovered this riff was one of them! 😂
