I was in a particularly bad mood one day and decided to play a little FO4 and just so happen that I walked by Marcy Long. I didn't talk to her I didn't say a word I didn't touch her or even look her direction and she popped off with some sour comment about me and I stopped dead in my tracks and said "You know what, b***** that's it" and I went into her menu and transferred her to some far off distant settlement out away from everything else. She had it made in Sanctuary, hub of activity and all the fresh clean water she could ever want. But no she had to open that fat mouth that one last time and I banished her. Interestingly enough, her husband started acting much more cheerful and happy within days after she was gone. She was keeping him from finding any semblance of peace. Good riddance, Marcy.

Marcy has one saving trait. She takes care of her husband. Supportive was something that I liked about her. Also see that she was going though a hard time. So I cut her some slack. This is funny, long before I saw this video I sent Marcy Long to the worst settlement and forgot about her. I ran into her a few times and stood there looking at her through squinted eyes as she poured out oral diarrhea, and decided, "Yeah, you don't get to live in the crown jewel of my wasteland settlements." I then sent her to the small settlement high on the bluff, with the lowest happiness. The one I almost never visit after doing the best cleanup job possible for such a low build limit. I assume she's still there, or she may have been hit in the throat with a shovel by the other settlers for her insufferable personality and buried in a shallow grave. In any event, she's NOT in the settlement with every store, an excess of water and food, a soda fountain and barber and carpets and houseplants and weight bench and pommel horse and a cat and dog and the nicest houses and every possible amenity available. So if she still breathes, it's in the dusty air of the grimiest hovel, shivering in the cold at night after a day of spreading manure in a minimal garden.

I feel the same way about Marcy. I hate her so much that every new game I make in Fallout 4, I equip her with the weakest stuff I can find in the commonwealth. For example there was this one save game that I equipped her with Tattered Rags, the Cappy Glasses, and the Acid Soaker (with no ammo). So she can both look stupid and be useless at the same time.

Personal opinion - Brothehood/Minutemen Alliance would work best for the Commonwealth. Brotherhood isn't interested in "ruling" over Boston - they're here for their mission first, but they are willing to extend a hand in the form of heavy trooper and air support. While the Minutemen can work on defensive operations and organizing the better new government with involvement of BoS in their primary role (something NCR couldn't quite grasp), it'd be mostly safe and thriving community.

Chemist and Chem Resistant are an amazing duo, makes chems into risk-free extremely powerful consumables. Jet is probably the best because slow time is great for on-the-run accuracy while being the easiest to get more of and pairing well with psycho.

So many responses here are, "yes but if the SS dies, then blah blah power vacuum etc...." No. The best leader trains better leaders to come after them--and I don't mean in the way of a petty tyrant insisting on a successor. If the SS is worth their salt at _all,_ then they will put in place some sort of leadership turnover and at least a handful of decent people behind them--and these people will be trained to _support_ each other (a la Minutemen) not fight to fill a "power vacuum"--and they do this by not making everyone dependent on their existence even while they're alive. That means giving their settlers some autonomy in their decisions, so they continue to have agency after the SS's demise (whenever that is, mine has 7 vials of life expanding serum in cold storage + several friendly ghouls and Gen2.5/3 synths around [his ex-BoS synth boyfriend included], so I imagine they'll be around with a decent support system for a while--outliving Maxson, Desdemona and Garvey, at least). Of course, there'll be bad eggs, there's always at least one. But the idea is that there's enough to keep things going for at least another generation. It takes 3 generations for a societal more to become a tradition, that is all. If the SS can't so that, then whatever faction they choose, they've failed. After all, raiders--as shown ion many holotapes--often become raiders because there's not alternative (even Gage went the "if you can't stand to watch your parents kowtow to 'em, join 'em" route because apparently he was too young/stupid to realise you can also fight 'em). Once the true psychopaths are dealt with, then many kids won't grow up to become raiders because their trauma won't turn them all into wee sociopaths because their farms might be able to go more than a year or 2 at a time without being raided. Eventually, the settlers will stop calling for help, because they will have the courage and agency--and defences--to help themselves. Minutemen, with railroad to help until they're no longer needed. Ideally, no BoS but in that PT, see "ex BoS synth boyfriend", so, well. yeah. Keeping them in line.
