And I'm still driving today, a 4 million mile veteran driver, when you make a choice, stand behind that decision!

I was the same, positive attitude with my amputation. Mine was only the big toe, bone infection. The doctor asked me if I wanted to lay in the hospital 3 weeks on iv antibiotics, or amputation? I told him, "chop it off" don't love the toe, I love my 14 grandchildren. I provide for them. My youngest son, 28 was killed and left behind 4 babies. What would you do? I was in the hospital 3 times, 3 different hospitals and never missed a paycheck! When things are far more important than a toe! It's just a rotting chunk of meat. Almost lost my leg I drive truck, 35 year veteran driver. Now Decide! What would anyone do? A toe? Or miss Christmas for 14 babies? Choose.

If you haven’t read “An Unquiet Mind” by Kay Redfield Jameson, I can recommend it. She’s a bi-polar (she prefers “manic/depressive) clinical psychologist and if I remember correctly, set up the 1st bi-polar clinic in the US.

In sports/activities that you did before amputation, do you find them easier or less painful post-amputation? After numerous surgical attempts to salvage my right foot/ankle, the pain isn't nearly as vicious, but my mobility still sucks. I want to hike again, play with my grandchildren again without being afraid I'm going to fall. Is amputation worth it under those circumstances?

So if I go to Disney should I leave my leg off and go in my wheelchair? Or do you still get disabled "conveniences" while wearing the prosthesis?

I've never glued on the nails. I usually put medical tape around the nails and then paint it. Good tip. I'll try it.

As a double amputee I never thought of Fake toe nails for prosthetics.

As a male RBKA, I can't imagine doing anything to make the prosthetic look nicer. I wear jeans all the time save for playing tennis. I know people put designs on their prosthetic. Function is what matters to me. Of course being female is a whole other story!! Looks nice.

Also a male BKA. I have no interest in nail painting, but I love watching this young lady's content.

I'm a male LBKA, and I like to wear prosthetic covers with a colored socket. I think it goes with my general style. I wouldn't paint the nails, but I think the potential to make it look cool is a nice opportunity

The trouble is that there is not an "amputee coalition" that has come up with a common set of rules about these things. Every amputee (like every person, period) is different. What is a welcome question to. one may be huge offense to another. BUT I think it is a natural human instinctive reaction to look twice at something that is different than the norm. And, first and foremost, amputees get that 2nd (or 3rd) look do to that phenomenon. Then, I'm sure, the unspoken questions start in the head: how does it feel? does it hurt? what can she do? what can she not do? But I don't think any of this is ill-intent....it's almost a spinal-level reaction. For me that started when I was about 3 years old walking with my Mom down Washington Boulevard in Ogden, Utah. There were "vets" on the street sitting on the sidewalk sometimes with bilateral amputations...selling pencils. Even as a child this broke my heart and fortunately we take care of our vets better today than back then. But at a very early age I could not wrap my mind around the guy sitting on the street with no legs selling pencils...that image is forever etched in my memory.

I understand the stress, the concern In your voice from this Video, and I completely know what It's like being an amputee, being one myself. Now going back when you said they could have saved your leg if it wasn't for that first doctor. I look at this way Annika perhaps It was meant to be because now you are on youtube Helping others like yourself living without a Limb Or Limbs you might not think of it that way but what you are doing others feel comfort In knowing there Is Help and Hope for them. I hope you continue with your Mission Soldier and keep marching on. and Thank you for all you do.

First time my shrinker was put on over a fitting plastic cone I fainted from the pain, 2 days later tried again and wear it constantly when not using prosthesis.

Thank you for your advice. I had my right leg amputated above the knee in January AND I don't have a shrinker. Was told it was because it was "not healing properly." Thank you for your videos and for your service.

I always wear my shrinkers when I’m not using my legs. Prosthetist says to, I DO IT. I’ve only had my legs for seven weeks, but I can do everything but run and jump high. I’m working on getting a pair of blades in the near future. Great vidya btw!

Welcome back! I became an amputee three years ago, and it stemmed from a previously undiagnosed heart condition, which if it had been properly diagnosed six years earlier, would have meant that a whole series of events that unfolded three years ago, wouldn't have happened, and I'd still have my leg. I agree - I avoid the "what ifs" as much as I can too, since no matter how true they are, my leg is gone and it can't ever come back. You have continued on and are building a wonderful, productive and happy life - cheers to you!

It is honestly so disheartening to hear so many stories that resemble mine in any way. I'm glad I'm not the only one who has been through this, but at the same time, I wouldn't wish this on ANYONE. Glad you have such a positive outlook!

My foot was sick for 2 years it was turning purple so I went to my doc and they tell me to take Tylenol after 2 years of it I went to the ER and a inter figured out what was wrong with my new doc tried saving it and he couldn't I got grangreen in my foot I had my surgery on Sept 19 2019 I think if my doc looked into it more I might have my leg still I did get a lawyer to look into but they couldn't do anything ur story sounds like mine
@AnnikatheAmputeeАй бұрын
It is CRAZY that a doctor can look at an injury that something is CLEARLY very wrong and they suggest Tylenol? That is insane. I am sorry you went through all of this but I hope you are now making the best out of this situation

I started with a seal-in liner and I was curious about what other people thought about it vs pin-lock systems. I haven't really felt my leg coming off or any anxiety of losing my leg. Great video and thanks for your opinion on different systems especially for new amputees such as myself.
