Good question, I would inquire directly with Pinion.

They are both great for long distance touring! The Pinion will offer wider gear range but will weigh and cost a little more.

We can only recommend Pinion brand gearbox oil.

Yes, best to clean any threads before applying Loctite products. There isn't much risk of the fill plug leaking oil since it sits above the oil level.

Good question! They are both designed around a smaller 650b wheel, however the Siskiyou accommodates a larger tire and is rated for heavier loads while touring. If you're wanting to use the bike mainly for bikepacking off-road, the Siskiyou would be a better choice.

Did you push a syringe full of air into the box prior to suction? I think the air exchange is the key here so you don't create a vacuum. If you try that and still get no oil out, I would add the 60ml of new oil.

We aren't experiencing that on our end. Subtitles are enabled if you want to turn the volume down.

On expedition touring models, the P-series and 18-speed gearbox is recommended by Pinion. It's more robust with a wider gear range. The C-series boxes are lighter and better suited for commuting, gravel bikes and lightweight touring.

Yes, we can add the SteerStopper to most models along with a belt drive and Rohloff hub. This includes the Americano, Divide, Siskiyou and Pangea bikes.

The shifters are rotary or twist shifters. This is the only option for the P1.18 box.

We have made some custom aluminum frames for both the Rohloff and Pinion drive-trains. So, yes this is possible. Currently there are no available lever based shifters for the Pinion gearbox. Gebla offers a setup for the Rohloff hub however.

Hi Christian, most double ring mountain bike cranks with a 104 bcd and 4-bolt pattern work well the Rohloff chainline.

Appreciate the feedback. Keep in mind this isn't a singletrack slayer, it's an off-road touring bike. So, you likely won't need to change gears that quickly. This drop-bar shifter solved the problem of not being able to mount the Pinion made shifter on a road handlebar. It may not suit everyone but it does allow for drop handlebars to be used with the P-series gear boxes.

Thanks Eric, you could achieve a low maintenance drive-train with externally routed cables and full-housing attached to the frame. Less holes makes for a stronger frame, which is why we choose this setup.

But for someone who only rides in the city (everyday), the benefits of internally routed cables far outweigh the need for that extra bit of strength. If you ever make one, you'll have my $$$. Have you viewed our other Pinion oil change video on the P.18 box, which was made prior to the syringe method? The oil doesn't drain on it's own. The syringe method works really well in comparison.

Leave top (vent) plug out. Screw the syringe adapter into it's port. Remove drain plug. Slowly introduce air with the syringe to expel oil from the drain. Repeat as necessary. Lay the bike on it's right side. Pump the pre-measured oil into the vent hole (so you don't have to remove the adapter) while leaving the drain plug out so as to equalize the pressure. Remove adapter and re-install the plugs with loctite and torque to spec.

This frame does have split provision for belt use.

Yes, the Velocity Dyad rims will accommodate 25mm tires.

Hi Mark, the main goal with the travel case is to avoid oversize baggage fees however some models with certain drive-trains will exceed the weight limit. Have you looked at our Pinion packing manual on our site? There's a link in the support menu, bottom left of the home page.

@@co-motioncycles7269 Thanks guys. I am back from Japan now. Although my wife did not allow me enough time for riding, I was very happy to have.my bike with me. On my return, someone somewhere must have manhandled by case such that the front rotor was bent. Tomorrow I will hunt for a new one at our local shop. Next time I will remove the rotors. It rained while I was there and I noted rusting of the front fork at the junction of the stem and the spacers under it. On reassembly I have covered those rusted areas with some grease. The sealant solidified in one of the wheels. I did air them down to allow the large 29ers to fit in the case. I did not even attempt to add any extras, bottle cages, fenders, or rack. I did bring a kickstand and a small tool kit. I was near the max weight limit. The 18 speed P18 worked well up many a hill. One lady, who must have sold her bike, offered me a floor pump for free, saying that.my bike looked so nice and professional. Another man who spoke some English, saw the gearbox and asked where I got bike. "It's Amerixan made, right over near Eugene Oregon." Well he knew where California was at least. Japan has many step throughs, Mama Chari's, and the majority of bikes are now electric compared to what I remember from just 4 years ago. People there use the bike as transportation,, not for exercise. Bikes are also not terribly expensive. I did register.my bike upon arrival and had a international driver's license.

Megan, we agree that would be great but we don't have any Cinq5 shifters here. As you know, they're out of stock and you got the last set from our showroom!

For single bike models yes, this is achieved with a 145mm rear hub.

@@co-motioncycles7269 why do you think this is not a standardised thing? Makes sense to me. I guess you’d have to get all the component makers onboard with it which would be challenging because of the power of tradition 🙂

Please read the description of the video. Pinion has changed the oil change methods and now provides a threaded adapter for the syringe tubing to draw more oil from the gearbox prior to adding the new oil.
