Can't you run blue and red across to unsuite and put a t intersect to island
@TriStarHomestead
@TriStarHomestead 2 сағат бұрын
I’m guessing you mean run lines to the island then t off to the master bath? If so, we could but I didn’t want to. I would personally rather have dedicated lines to every fixture so that water pressure won’t be affected. It’s cheap to do it now so it made the most sense.

I would insulate before electrical. With post frame construction one has a thick wall. You will be running 2x4 for your sheetrock. That gives you a 1 1/2" space to run electrical. This makes a much better insulation and wiring easier.

That is our plan. Spray foam before any walls go up. Will be easier for them which should make it cheaper for us.

You had asked about insulation between your house and garage before cement pad. I would say Yes; where your garage won’t be heated; I’d be afraid that your pipes will freeze. Especially with opening garage door all the time.
@TriStarHomestead

Our garage will be heated as well so the freezing of pipes is not too much of a concern there.

Couldn't tell from the video, but are you planning on putting water and a drain in the garage for cleanup or washing equipment etc.
@TriStarHomestead
@TriStarHomestead 9 сағат бұрын
No. I don’t want to drain that into my septic in case there was oil or whatnot on the garage floor and I can’t just drain to the outside so I didn’t do garage drains. We won’t park anything but cars in here anyway. We will build a shop and an equipment shed in the future for that stuff.

Luckily, all of my friends, families, and contract friends all said.... BEFORE YOU POUR THE FLOOR !!!!!! We make 3 things we would never think of, and they weren't for water pipes.... they were places we might want power..... A roll of conduit was cheap.... Now we have a tub with jets, and our kitchen has a counter with power... Great job, family.... it is getting close....

All those scraps from the piping foam, cut say four or five at a time to say 12/18 inches long then lay them together and tape them together around the circumference top and bottom and centre well and they make amazing kneeling pads to protect your knees when working on any surface. As a little edit, if you are on a cold surface the pad will radiate your own body heat back to you keeping your bum or knees warm.
@TriStarHomestead
@TriStarHomestead 9 сағат бұрын
Never heard or thought of that. I have knee pads somewhere packed away. Also, I used all those scraps too. Think I have one piece that was two inches and one that was like six inches. Not much left.
@jamesm875
@jamesm875 7 сағат бұрын
@@TriStarHomestead Because of the insulation property on the tubes they make great kneel pads in the winter on cold surfaces and last a long time. I used them often for many jobs including monoblocking and one pad would last a couple of weeks of constant wear. Try sitting on a few pieces and feel how warm your bum gets or put your bare feet on a piece for near instant heat. Great stuff that and i used every time without the knee pads as you had more freedom of movement . All the best and another great video.

Is that a concrete base covered with Styrofoam that you are building on? and greetings from Germany :) ahh no you have round concrete bases on the beams.
@TriStarHomestead
@TriStarHomestead 3 күн бұрын
The foam is only to separate our concrete slab from the outside ground. It’s dirt and gravel for the base that the concrete will sit on. The rounds are just our footers. It’ll all be encompassed by concrete soon.

Just thought of something, where are you as regards to your budget currently, over or under?
@TriStarHomestead
@TriStarHomestead 3 күн бұрын
We are over budget for a couple reasons. First we planned to just build the house and not the garage and do the garage later. We decided to just do it all at once. Second is for whatever crazy reason, prices in California (when we were looking) were cheaper for materials than they are here. So we are over in dollars but we aren’t really off as far as materials needed.

hi there tri star. this is just a idea i have. if you are going to bury water pipe in the concrete slab that makes the floor then you could put pvc pipe first then put the water pipe in the pvc. becasue if something goes wrong whit the water then it is easier to remove them from a pvc pipe then a concrete slab. dont know if it is a bad thought or not, hope it is a good one anywyas have a great day!
@TriStarHomestead
@TriStarHomestead 3 күн бұрын
It’s a good idea. We are burying water lines in the next video but not in pvc pipe. Once the concrete is in, there really is nothing that can cause a leak other than too much pressure so we didn’t bury it in pipe.

Can’t say for sure as I’m not familiar with winters in Poland but we got down to -10 with windchill this past winter and the birds were fine. Chickens are pretty hardy and they get warmth from huddling together. As for snow, we don’t get much but when we got some I just brushed it off the top and all was good. You could add a pitch to the roof of this to allow snow to slide off.
