Octopussy is also Sh1t at paying you back credit of yours they have, 8 times I asked for my money back over £600, I have had to stop the payments to them to get my money back.

There's a fairly good chance it wasn't Octopus themselves, there's a few subcontractors doing most of the metering work.

And a lot of the terminal fixings on these meters are absolutely garbage ( them pathetic little Allen screws )

I had the same on my Octopus isolation switch. It burnt out after a couple of years. Neutral not clamped at all. Had to fix it myself, dangerous but a lot quicker. Got some compensation from Octopus. £150 I think

My supplier is constantly pestering me to get a smart meter. I studiously ignore them. I have friends who are on their third or fourth one because they failed, one even gave a reading that they had used as much power as a small town and their supplier tried convincing them it had to be right.

It isnt Octopus energy it is the contractors they have to employ now because of the shit load of redtape. I had a smart meter fitted after my house was rewired. It was my only option. I must admit that I am concerned that the terminals may not be tight after seeing that. Ferrules should be crimped onto those cables to get a permanent tight connection in my opinion.

I had similar issue with gas meter fitted. After 3 days our neighbours called emergency services as they though THEY had a gas leak but it was ours. Had to turn our gas and wait for another engineer to come and fix. We were lucky the house didn't blow up.

Just to be fair... Octopus use mainly third-party contractors for their meter upgrades/installs. When mine was done reciently I watched the guy and he did a good job.
@cassiomx8812 күн бұрын
O.E. seem to rarely fit an DP isolator to save the fuse pulling. Meter companies probably pay about a 5er each for them given they quantity they buy. Makes you wonder how sound their connections are from intake. I think they get paid per job so with daily targets. Given they only have have to make so few connections, this is utterly shameful.
@paulcumiskey864712 күн бұрын
Probably toughened with torque driver (cos modern terminals are weak as pss, and so not tight enough) and not accounted for copper being malleable.

Just had octopus install a smart metre, only to find the monitor isn't compatible with the WiFi and get told there's nothing they can do.. so what was the point in that ??

I think pulling the main fuse in this case is allowed on health and safety grounds right? Could have caused a fire.

All these energy companies are shite 1 weeks course and you classed as a engineer. We are at the moment on big domestic project we had the meter guy come out from a company to install the new meter left the tails loose good job we are onsite. When we checked as he was leaving found the tails loose we had to run down the drive to stop him what a joker.

Dont let them persuade you need a smart meter it wont make your energy any cheaper and Im convinced their remote connection can mess with your rate.

Firstly, as an electrician you are allowed to pull the main fuse, but only if you suspect that the system is dangerous, how ever. You are NOT allowed to reinsert the fuse, you have to notify the energy company. Secondly, get yourself a cutout shroud they're not expensive and could save you getting an accidentall shock.
