Noticed that Ash, whilst proving dead, applied probe first to the line terminal, (5.46), leaving the other probe waving around. If the circuit were not dead, there would then be a voltage present on the unattached probe, so wouldn't it be wiser to place first probe onto earth and the second to each of the lives in turn?

Very good observation, you are correct, it is much better to go onto the cpc first,

this kid has been sticking his nose into too many books. Don't worry, you'll gain some confidence after your first few years, and you'll learn not to wave around your tools in the pannel. I mean, what if a screw falls down between 2 phases? I got a pannel at work with the plastic cover missing, exposed 3 phase terminals at foot level, no warning label, nobody knows but me. I'm waiting for an accident to happen. Let me teach you what is far more important than this white english crap of "put muh lead on muh earth first bla bla", you need to first test the terminals WHEN THEY'RE LIVE, which these monkeys didn't. See if you got a neutral/earth fault, see if you placed the lead correctly... many times the lead will show 0 just because the screw on the breaker has some special coating on it. If you put the lead on top of the screw, on the side, it will show 0, you need to place it inside the screw and twist the lead around, not just lightly touch it. But hey, theory and practice are 2 different things.

Would it be a dangerous current tough? Probably there is a very high impedance in the tester itself (if it's the same of a multimeter, like 10Mohm), not enough to give you any shock. Anyway better to be on the safe side.

Basic 1st step of drilling a hole even with a speed bit like Ashley used, is to DEBURE THE HOLE !! I NOTICED that it WASNT DONE. AS HIS IMMEDIATE BOSS , AND FILMING IT ASWEL, I THOUGHT THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN PICKED UP STRAIGHT AWAY , BUT I WAS WRONG AND DISAPPOINTED AND SAD TO SEE !! Ashley 1 word of advice from someone that has been an ELECTRICAL ENGINEER FOR 40 years, BUY YOURSELF A DE-BURRING TOOL. THEY ARE NOT EXPENSIVE, BUT GIVE YOU THE SATISFACTION OF A CLEAN HOLE FOR APPLYING A STUFFING GLAND !!

Found that the fine tooth of the armeg bits require virtually no deburing when complete, they are a great tool I agree but only really use them when the big set of hole cutters come out, But I take it on board and hold my hands up, yes I should probably be less complacent and ensure all holes are de buried, Thanks for your feedback

Nice little vid. Made me chuckle though as you criticised the DB you took out as being an unknown brand then replaced it with a DB from Live Electrical. The original DB was a Lewden branded Controlgear Direct.

Was gonna say not helped it with that board lol. Could use nice Hager. Also fitting TP+N board was a bit of a waste wasnt it. Supply cable 2 core only? Could have just put on Single phase board.... What size was the supply cable? Unless it was 25mm armoured i fail to see the point of 25mm tails extending it into the board...

Fair dos if it was 25mm SWA. Looked smaller in the vid. As for board, just price Hager to start with😊 Switch room upgrade will be nice job.

I've not use those particular spice connectors but most of those push in connectors have some sort of release procedure if you need to. Think I would've put the tails in trunking but then again they're high up out of the way they so should be OK.

but but but but what if you had a major fault and you had single phase in short circuit with neutral and earth huuuuuuuuuuh? your proving unit wouldn't do anything. My magic pen would. Or what if you had backfeed from a nearby building that only goes on at certain intervals?

When drilling a box you should de-burr the hole before fitting the gland. Makes sure you can get the gland fully screwed tight to flat metal and not stopped by burrs and less likely to cause minor injury to fingers etc if work is altered later.

We use accelerate cutters so the are fine tooth, causing little to no burr

I finished my apprenticeship in 1979. I'm retired now. Things have changed a lot since I was installing boards. My only pet hate is when electricians use impact drivers to tighten/loosen terminal screws. That is not the proper tool for that job. it is too powerful and the terminal screws are usually made of a soft material. It really riles me to see it. All the best for that young lad going on with his apprenticeship. Well done.
@brightsparkmid

I think if you know the feel of your driver you can quite easily use it to just run the terminal screws up, saves some time in the long run but yes I do agree with over tightening using them,

@@brightsparkmid Each to their own. I just prefer not to use it. I've seen an RCBO destroyed because ot was over-tightened using one of those things. But enough of that. I loved the video otherwise. Reminded me so much of my younger days "on the tools".
