Total environment solutions… reminds me of that scene on Wolf of Wall Street… “it’s a cutting edge high tech firm out of the Midwest awaiting imminent patent approval” Consider the incentives; the company who you do this through, do they personally retain any of the shares in these start-ups? And do they have to pay for those shares? And are the value of those shares greater than their fee/subscription incomes? If not I’d suggest your interests are perhaps different to theirs, which is not a great place to be. But like you say, doesn’t matter too much if only playing with beer money...
@OzbourneForeman
@OzbourneForeman 19 күн бұрын
Ha-ha, I know the scene you're talking about. Some good questions, I will raise them when next speaking to the club. I do know that they place an emphasis on being members of the club, meaning the employees are aligned with the club members. I would imagine that they keep a capital buffer. My thoughts being that they would purchase an amount of shares above the value of the subscription incomes and then distribute them until they are depleted. In this time, the shares might be re-evaluated (by company updates) and then they would distribute shares at the new (likely increased price). But, I'm speculating at this point. That's right, as it's beer money for me, it's not something I'm too worried about. Psychologically, it does stop me from looking for exciting high-growth stocks, which I would hope helps me in my stock market portfolio and sticking to quality companies.

That said, they use a nominee service like most stock brokers to protect you in the event of bankruptcy. On this link, you can see VCCrowd and a few other firms that use this service: www.premiumnominees.com/#our-services With this nominee service, we can also verify their shareholdings. For example, Happy Drinks Group, we can see that VCCrowd (Under the name 'Premium Nominees LTD') is shareholder #33. I'll ask some tough questions on regulations, risks and any potential red flags. He also runs a weekly webinar for club members, so if you have any questions you can ask him then. www.vccrowd.com/information/webinars I hope this helps. Games Workshop is a high quality, but extremely expensive stock. There are far better options out there. $ cost averaging only really works on funds/indexes, not well with individual stocks, where you are exposed to that stock dropping and not going back up. Everything already known about a company is already factored into the price. Large companies are constantly analysed by professionals / institutions. To think that the average person can gain an advantage and spot something new about a large company that is not already known is near impossible. When it comes to investing, overconfidence in our own abilities is the worst enemy. Perhaps getting as much money into an All World ETF as soon as you get it is the way to go and keep doing that forever.
@andypicken7848

robwalsh3082 I broadly agree, in order to gain an edge retail investors will either need to know information about a company which is unknown to the wider market, which is unlikely or be able to find value by superior interpretation of existing information, which again is a very rare skill. Conversley a private investor can gain an advantage by market timing. When there is panic and the market sells off a retail investor who has the right frame of mind can find value over the market. The paradox is, most private investors think they can find value in a "steady" market, which most cannot and most private investors believe they cannot market time but when the market panics they can.

My pension has global trackers. I think you've got to look forward. Everything already known about a company might be factored into today's price. To transfer out of Freetrade: 'US securities will incur a cost of £17 per holding' and 'Stocks can only be transferred as whole shares.' So if, like me, you unwisely bought a few (part) US shares at the end of 2021, which are a long way off recovering, you would only want to do an in specie transfer (after buying more part shares to make them whole) but would need to weigh multiples of this £17 fee up against the Freetrade annual fee of £59.88 to hold an ISA.

Fortunately, I only hold two US stocks and I've always bought full shares. I would certainly weigh up whether those part US shares are worth continually holding. If I didn't feel comfortable buying more part shares to make a whole, it might mean I don't have faith in the company and I'd sell. For me, I'll pay £34 and I'll get the cost savings after 3 months of no longer paying for Freetrade Plus. Thanks for sharing!
