In The Netherlands highway speed is 60 mph, you can ride it all day! Also another sprocket at front, 15 instead of 14 teeth will bring more comfort and less fuel consumption. For longer rides another [more comfortable] saddle is an idea.

I'm thinking of getting the baby gs after riding the R variant at my msf class. Going from riding my 05 klr650 for a month before hand to that kinda showed me the advantages of a light and short bike, and for 90% of my adventures the g310gs would be fine and the other 10% I feel I could live with or take the klr instead

Wouldn't complain about a 400cc upgrade. Did not notice any type of wobble on long interstate ride with crosswinds. I do not like single as much multi cylinders for highway use. It is surprisingly good overall though.

I can't imagine going back to a small 1 cylinder for anything but city commuting or offroading, being used to 100hp+ it would drive me mad on the highways!

KTMs generally have the roomiest cockpits given your size and weight I would look at midsize and up not small displacement Adventure bikes. By the time you add luggage and that you'll be pushing A lot of air out of the way and carrying more weight than most of them are designed for. Also the suspensions will wind up being way too soft

I have the 1st generation one. I wanted to try a lightweight bike but I must say this is the worst bike I ever had. Engine, especially over 30 degrees celsius is not smooth, throttle responce is not precise, it vibrates, gearbox smoothness is very variable, suspensions don’t have a consistent hydraulic. Engine and gearbox got considerably better with Motul 7100 but still far from any japanese or even chinese product. Ktm is much better in any aspects. Try a Cf Moto 450 MT and it is on another level. I cannot recommend it in terms of riding pleasure but i must admit that it is very reliable, never an issue. P.S. Advantec oil by Bmw is shit, at least on this one.

I'm 68 now, and have been riding GSs since my 90 R100 GD/PD. Love them all, but this little guy is a blast-and so light and easy to handle. I'll keep them both until I'm no longer able to ride...thanks for your video!!

I notice a great gap between this, and BMW's big boy adventure bikes. You jump from this straight to f800gs with it's 900cc nearly 90hp motor and there's just nothing in-between. BMW are so well known for their ADVs that I feel like somebody in their marketing department not doing their job. Can you just imagine how many of these they could sell if they gave it an ever so slightly larger motor? Maybe a 400-500cc thumper, or even a twin. Just so someone who likes the design language of BMW's adventure bikes could stay "with the brand" if they so choose. And progress from more beginner friendly to something slightly larger and more affordable than going straight into serious big motor adventure bikes, which honestly are a handful to control in the dirt. I think this is where Kawasaki KLR650 sits, and why it is a definitive adventure bike for many. It's just a great sweet spot in terms of power.

are you planning to change your sprockets? Its a pain on the freeway imo, I find it very hard to keep it at 7RPMs because sometimes you're just going with the flow of traffic. But I'm just worried about wear on the engine at this point. Have you gone on group adventure rides/trips? ITs fine when youre with your buddies but most are on bigger bikes and might not like waiting for the slower bikes. But nice bike dude, got the same 40th anniversery color way.

Ridden this same bike quite a bit and I found it was amazingly fun up to about 55, over 55 it gets very buzzy and the vibrations are annoying to me. Others may have a different opinion or have addressed it. Also found it's a bit small framed for folks over 5'11", but that may just be my specific frame and preference.

I have a 2019 G310GS and I love it. I never use the ABS switch but I'm glad I have it for the very rare steep downhill off road or other times I might want to skid the rear tire. I've done all of the scheduled maintenance and it's been easy and cheap to keep. I've ridden it on the highway at 70-75 for a couple of hours at a time on occasions and it works, but I bought the baby GS for my 60th birthday for back roads, gravel or dirt roads, mild off road and moto camping and it's great for that. I've done a lot of little upgrades and still have a few to go. I'm going to get the Seat Concepts seat, probably the tall version. I have an inexpensive Amazon knock-off airflow seat and it helps a lot by adding a little bit of air circulation under me that manages to be more comfortable in the summer and winter. Do not strap a tall tail bag on the rack and pillion and ride on the highway with a strong crosswind. The tail bag acts as a sail and because it's so high it has a lot of leverage to tilt the bike over and slide it sideways. It's terrifying. Otherwise, the G310GS is a fun and easy bike to ride that is quite capable on and off road. I wish it had a larger fuel tank, maybe with lower lobes that acted as additional fairing for the legs.

As a result I felt like I was sliding forward at all times. my pant legs rode up to the top of my boots. Upper inner thighs tired quickly. As if the seat was too wide. Im 6'2" 200lbs. You have a good understanding of what your motorcycle is and what it is not and when one understands the strengths and weaknesses of smallbore motorcycle, then they become fun. I have a smile every time I ride either bike! Have many years of enjoyment on your bike, it is a hoot to ride small motorcycles!

If you have not yet, don't get this bike, you will quickly outgrow it as you become a better rider and will probably wish for something a little better within the first 6 months. Rather try for an sv650 or a bit more sporty 2 or even 4 cylinder small bike like mt-03 or 400 ninja, ninja RR (4 cylinder up to 75 hp with a computer update if you in the us) etc.

My guy, have you by any chance tried like a front sprocket more/less teeth? Heard some say a 17 teeth front can be good? Personally if I ever wanna try change anything about the sprockets then its having to shift less or more acceleration. As loosing some top speed aint an issue for me

I purchased the same bike that you have, with 1100 miles from my local dealer...have not ridden my R1200 GS LC since getting the 310. I'm 68 years old, and still love the big GS's for distance and touring, but the 310 is a hoot on the many back country roads we have here in central Virginia. Been riding the big GS's since my 1990 Paris Dakar, and R1100 GS Oil-head. Will keep my 1200 Liquid cooled , AND my "new-to me" 310 until I die, or quit riding... hope to see you on the road!

@advbrain99677 ай бұрын
I think it would be a great bike for that. I would suggest more dirt tires. the ones that come on that bike are good for gravel and ok for trails that are not muddy. Crash bars that cover the engine and fairings. Also rally raid make good suspension sets ups. but as it sits, it does great!

You can change the front sprocket to a 17 tooth and it increases the top speed. One upside of that is that at 70 the rpms would be lower and save more fuel, which it really drinks at higher speeds
