Does the CCS standard authorize negative current thru the connector? I think that if the current goes negative, the contactors inside the EV that feeds the chargeport opens, because it's an "abnormal" condition for the car. To be honest, I'm using the Codico Whitebeet CCS EVSE module for my charger, I never tried to actually "pull" current from the EV. However on the many EVs I tested, you can stay at 0A for a while, the DC chargeport contactors stay closed (after the precharge).
@ReddyToGo.19 минут бұрын
Well, the use case is not specified in the good old CCS standard from 2012, but latest version wants to address this use case, too. So the "old" cars have some room of freedom, how they react in the case of negativ current. Some are happy for a while, some are ending the session quite fast, and some, like the MG and the self-made Touran just work without complaining.
@joostwestra15 сағат бұрын
Very nice! Do you already which cars support this? Are you limited to the 10.000kWh limit of Volkswagen or do you bypass the with your way of activating the contacters? I think most people understand what happens when the contactors are closed an stay closed. But any info here is very welcome. New subscriber for sure.

Hi thermoratz, bist du schon bei den Nordkap-Vorbereitungen :-) What was the question? You mean which cars are supported by this approach? We collected some experiences in the openinverter forum, topic "Drawing power out of CCS port". Or do you mean which electronics of the Touran we are talking to? This is the open source CCS controller, aka Foccci. Basically at the end each CCS car is a candidate for such an approach. With some exceptions: Your 800V car would require an hybrid inverter that supports this voltage. Some cars are not happy with closing the contactors without beeing charged, e.g. the good old Ioniq classic terminates the session after 10 minutes of "not been charged."

The inverter cost me 550€ used, would be 850€ new. The PLC modem is from a consumer PLC bridge and was like 10€. Fuses, power supply, cable, enclosure and CCS plug say 200€. Very cool! So does this only work with OpenInverter home built cars or does it also work with any OEM cars?
@EngineersFear3 күн бұрын
Right now, yes, probably. For most cars an additional circuit must be added that actually applies a voltage in the precharge state. Another issue is the long startup sequence of the inverter. It takes like 2 minutes from giving the start command until power delivery or consumption. So this must be cleverly times with the CCS state machine to not run into timeouts on the vehicle side.
@itekani15 минут бұрын

Yes on the communication side the project is based on readily available components like a standard homeplug modem. For actual power delivery I would heavily advise on a proper inverter as it is grid connected. They are no that expensive anymore.
@ReddyToGo.Күн бұрын
basically yes, but: Not all cars will be happy if the charger needs one or two minutes until the current flows. So there will be combinations (of slow "according to the regulation" inverters and picky cars) which will not work so easily.
@EngineersFearКүн бұрын
@@ReddyToGo. Exactly, timing can be critical. I found the inverter runs its startup sequence once it sees sufficient voltage on the battery input. So if that is all prepared it should work

I know that the roads are supposed to be shared between bycicle and cars but you are putting yourself in huge danger cycling on a road like this. If an accident happens it won't matter for you at all who was at fault, because you will most likely not be here anymore. Find a safer place to cycle.

Again, #motornormativity. It was the cyclists fault that he chose to ride on a road that is also used by motor vehicles. Now you enter your favourite route planner and make me a route from Göteborg to Östersund that does not involve road sharing. Or in fact any 1000 km route anywhere. Then think again whether your comment was worthwhile. I'd rather think motorists who overtake that risky should be prosecuted for attempted murder or something. Maybe that would raise awareness.
@teabaggins35172 ай бұрын
@@EngineersFear nope it was not the cyclist fault, but just because you can do something that does not mean you should do it. Is the risk worth it? I don't think so. I used to cycle on roads like this when I was a kid.
