So I’m still really curious to know what the brand was from Amazon he liked ?

Watch out now for the wolves, bears and scavengers animals. Very surprised. They usually do ok around the trees. Weird.

There’s always a large herd of these just outside Crescent City, CA along Hwy 101. Crescent City is only a few miles from the Oregon border, I grew up in Klamath Falls, OR and I lived in Eureka, CA for employment for 2 years in 1995-97 and I remember one section of the Hwy had these things wandering on the road like they owned it and cared less about traffic, lol.

I have been using Brownings almost exclusively for the last 4 or 5 years. You can buy them currently for around 150 bucks. Some don't have viewing screens, so check the specs. Their night video and audio are excellent. My models have a large preview screen and will take 1080p video at 60 frames per second. This makes for a much smoother video, especially if an animal comes trotting by and you have to slow down the video for a better glimpse of the animal. I use alkaline batteries but have considered trying lithium batteries. I can get 8 alkaline batteries for maybe a dollar apiece. Lithium batteries are $3 APIECE. Are they worth the money? Has anybody tested them for longevity? Most trail cams, regardless of brand, may last 3 to 4 years. Moisture is the problem. They all eventually leak and water gets inside and destroys them.

In 1986 I killed an Oregon Roosevelt bull 6x6. Had 555lbs of hanging meat and bone. Estimating live weight of 1100-1200lbs. Taxidermy shop to this day said: He hadn't mounted a bigger body bull in his shop of over 35 years.

I switched to Meidaze cameras from Amazon a couple of years ago. Nicer videos than big name brands & only around $100cdn each. I’m curious what make your new “favourite” is. I’d bet it’s the same make I’ve been using.

I’ve always thought of elk as horse like. The way to measure a horse is by hands. So how many hands do you think he is? That to the top of the shoulder. I’ve only seen one wild elk that was two hundred yards away, All the others have been behind a fence. In Gaylord Michigan. They are huge! And you can get quite close to them. They are like standing next to A Clydesdale !

The first time I witnessed elk in Western Wa, I witnessed a forest boeing stalking, hunting? them. I was alongside a hwy along a remote wild and scenic river and pulled over on my motorbike to check my phone that was buzzing... I noticed a wall of hair move then I could see the elk grazing.. I heard one elk bugle! I then noticed an upright being walking and it squatted and froze into what looked like a large red cedar stump! At that pount I was like WTF is that and it moved again, took a few more steps closer to the elk and squatted back into what looked like a large red cedar stump. I freaked out and turned on my bike and rode 30 feet or more to stop and put on my helmet.. I did not even look back because I was thinking the thing would have heard me and ran after me so I started it back up and launched back on the hwy as fast as I could. I knew I would've taken video or photo of the elk if I didn't see the other thing. I hadn't even looked into the topic at the time. Told myself it was just another elk. But it was incredible

My motion detectors fail after 2 years. Circuit boards disintegrate at a similar rate. UV light and moisture are the culprits.

I bought 2 cameras from temu last year for $28 each. The night time videos are super grainy. The day time vids are magnificent. And the sound quality is unmatched! I just wish the night time vids were clearer. Might try a different one from them this year to compare. For $28 you really can't go wrong tho. I pair it with a cell cam that only takes pics
